Sephora

I just bought some smashbox foundation and eyeshadow at Sephora today. Does anybody else shop at Sephora? If so what brands do you like from there and who do you use. I use to wear Estee Lauder but I kept having problems with the foundation.

Re: Sephora

  • I love Benefit mascara and creme eyeshadow, NARS eye pencil, and Bare Minerals foundation
  • I wear the Sephora brand mineral foundation, liquid eyeliner, and mascara. But my eyeshadow is Urban Decay all the way, baby.

  • I use Make Up For Ever foundation and powder. I love my Smashbox eye  shadow and Diorshow mascara,
  • Nars powder, urban decay/smashbox eyeshadow, sephora eye liner, and benefit mascara :)  I have sensitive skin so I usually focus on eyes and just do a finishing powder on my face.  I was using bare minerals but if I touched my face it was like I could still feel the makeup and I didn't like it.  I just switched to nars and it's amazing.  Its so light and I don't feel like I have anything on my face!
  • I like Smashbox Halo foundation (but not that new lip stain they have), AmorePacific CC cream, anything YSL, Bite lip products, and Urban Decay eyeshadow.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Nars blushes, Urban Decay eyeshadows, Stilia eyeliners, Makeup Forever HD finishing powder

They have really great gift sets out right now, and a lot of cool samples and promo codes!

  • Tarte blush, Urban Decay eyeshadow/liner, Bare Minerals foundation. I like the Sephora brand make-up brushes.
    image
  • Urban Decay eye shadow, shadow primer, eyebrow powder, etc.
Benefit bronzer, make-up primer, mascara, etc.

I've never tried anything by Urban Decay or Benefit that I didn't like! They're both awesome brands.

  • For the record, most people who use foundation don't really need to.  Foundation can be very heavy and actually make skin look older so most people can use a tinted moisturizer with powder or a BB or CC cream instead!

For face makeup, I pretty much exclusively wear NARS and MAC.  Honestly the best way to find what works best for you is to go into the stores and just test things!  I am constantly trying new things due to my job but I find I pretty much always go back to NARS (tinted moisturizer and the multiple for the face) and MAC (blushes and mineralize skin finish).

  • For my face, I use NARS tinted moisturizer, concealer, and blush.  For eye shadow, I use Urban Decay's Naked2.  For lips, I use either NARS lipstick or Hourglass lip gloss.  I like Sephora brand for makeup brushes, mascara, and eyeliner.
  • Foundation - Bobbi Brown bb cream
    Eyeshadow - Smashbox
    Eyeliner - Urban Decay

    Lipstick/lipgloss - I'm a lipstick/lipgloss whore. I'll try anything :)

  • If you apply your foundation correctly, and use the right products for your skin/the look you want, foundation doesn't have to look heavy or age you.  It can help just even you out if you need more full coverage than a BB or CC cream.  I have rosacea so I need to wear foundation otherwise my face is bright red all of the time.  I take meds too, but nothing short of a laser treatment, which is not covered by insurance and is not permanent, will get rid of the condition.

I use Clinique or make-up forever primers to soothe the red on my face before applying foundations.  If I want a more natural "no make up" look I use a Clinique CC cream and then touch up areas that are too red with Clinique's foundation formulated for redness reduction.  For a more full coverage look I use either Bare Minerals new liquid foundation or Kat Von D's liquid foundation.

I use 3 different Hourglass Ambient light powders- one to set foundation and further tone down red, one to contour, and one as very light blush. . . I don't need much color on my cheeks!  For highlighting I switch between Urban Decay's Naked Illuminated highlight powder, Josie Maran's Argan Illuminizer, and NARS Illuminator in Copacabana.

I usually use Urban Decay Naked 2 or Naked 3 on my eyes, but I have tons of different shadows from Stila to Sephora brand to drugstore brands.

For lips I do a more "natural" or neutral look since usually I like the focus to be on my eyes, and I love the Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylos and the Fresh lip glosses.

I love the Sephora make up brushes.

  • My new Sephora lipstick obsessions are Marc Jacobs and Bite Beauty.  Both fantastic!  I'm also super into the Hourglass Ambient Light Palette for when I want a glowy look all over (and then I use MAC Lightscapade under my eyes)

  • I love going into Sephora and trying all the new products out. On my last visit I purchased the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade after one of the employees touched up my brows and made them look fab! Unfortunately, I have been unable to recreate that look... I also have been using the Sephora brand airbrush foundation which is supposed to be a good dupe for the Dior one. I think its okay, I am currently on the prowl for a drugstore foundation that would be a good dupe for my MAC matchmaster 6.0...no luck yet though

  • Sephora just sent me a 20$ off coupon, and yay! I went hog wild last night. And cashed in all my points for stocking stuffers. Too. Much. Fun.

I am really liking Tarte these days. Like their blush, like their primer, like the Amazonian clay foundation.

Like Urban Decay for shadow and liner.

    Love Nars.

Still haven't found a foundation I like as well as Clinique Stay Matte oil free.

I think Make up Forever is decent, but overrated.

The last time I was foundation shopping, the Sephora girl insisted that Kat Von D foundation was amazing, and gave me a sample. I was skeptical, and I was right. It felt like putty, and I broke out like a fifteen year old.

    This one?

That came out after I had already purchased 3 powders, so I didn't get the one above.

Yeah that one.  I love it, it was the first Hourglass product I was sent to test out and it's fantastic.  I've heard good things about all the separate ones as well!  I tend not to wear full face makeup every day because I"m lazy (and because I test so much at certain times that I can't bear to do it lol) but whenever I do, I always kind of mix the two on the left together for an all over glow and use the right one to contour.

  • Looove Sephora! Some of my faves:

Foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear and Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation (only use these on special occasions because they can get heavy)

Concealer: Bobbi Brown Corrector and MUF Invisible Cover Concealer

    Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7

Mascara: Only one I found is worth the money is Benefit Bad Gal. Anything else I have is from the drugstore (Maybelline mostly)

Blush: Nars Orgasm, Nars Deep Throat, Nars Sin

Bronzer: Just bought and am loving Tarte Park Avenue Princes

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked 1 palette, Urban Decay Naked on the Run palette, Urban Decay primer potion

Powder: MUF HD powder. However haven't found a powder to really wow me, I find my Maybelline works just as well.

Lips: Bite Beauty, Nars, MAC (not Sephora but they have my favourite lipsticks!)

Other: Urban Decay De-slick Oil Control Setting Spray. This stuff is amazing if you have oily skin!

  • I'm obsessed with Sephora. Make Up For Ever, Bobbi Brown, Smashbox and Urban Decay seem to be the brands I use the most. I don't really use lipstick but, I bought some Bobbi Brown lip gloss the other day and I love it: http://www.sephora.com/brightening-lip-gloss-P391401?skuId=1639897

I also really love the HD Microfinish Powder by Make Up For Ever: http://www.sephora.com/hd-microfinish-powder-P210400?skuId=1510247

  • I have the smashbox halo foundation 8, on the rocks eye shadow set, the photo finish primer, and my birthday gift was the makeup forever mascara and N9 lipstick. I'm very impressed with the shadow smoky mascara.
I wasn't sure about the halo foundation, but it doesn't give me problems with my eczema. I'm so in love with my products but the prices are ehh. Are there other legitimate places to buy that could be less expensive?

  • I just remembered one more, I love my Glamglow face mask. I use it once a week and you can really tell when I miss a week. It brightens and evens out my crappy skin.
  • @alexisA01 Make sure you're signed up for the Beauty Insider program.  Plus they do have sales a couple times a year, I tend to stock up then.  Also, depending on where you're located, there are Beauty trade shows.  for example, in NYC there is both IMATS and The Makeup Show,  you buy a ticket and then they have massive discounts at the booths (same as pro programs usually.)  If you're buying a lot, it's worth it.

  • Not to thread jack, but tinted moisturizers are pretty much the same as BB cream, right? I've tried a few different BB creams and I like the way it makes my skin look, but I've found I can't use them because the sunblock in the makes me break out really bad. I don't know what it is about my skin and sunblock, but no matter what kind I use it never ends well. No other type of moisturizer, make-up, or whatever face products have ever had that bad of an effect on me.

Does anyone else have that problem?

BB Creams usually have a bit more coverage than a tinted moisturizer does.  I have a hard time with a lot of sunblock on my face but the NARS one doesn't bother me

I love my Glamglow so much. Best masks I've ever used. Ever. Nothing else comes close.
Hate the price, but not as much as I love the mask.

I got a sample of this with a recent Sephora purchase and have been wanting to use it. I've heard it's good for dry skin, but my skin is super oily so I've been apprehensive. I'm curious, what kind of skin do you have/do you think it'd work for oily people?

  • Yes I have been wanting to try the Glamglow masks but I wasn't sure how it would affect my skin because of my rosacea.

  • I only shop at Sephora for makeup but I wear the same stuff constantly.

I like Stila foundation, eyeliners, and eye shadows; Urban Decay for primer/setting spray, eyeliner, and now eyeshadow since I bought the Naked 3 palette; Benefit for mascara and bronzer; Makeup Forever for that HD setting powder they have; Korres or Bliss for skincare (the Rose line for Korres and the basic blue Bliss cleanser); and Philosophy shower gels (Cinnamon Buns!). I also buy the Sephora line waterproof eyeliner.

  • I use drugstore brand CC creams/powders (Almay CC and Revlon Photo Ready powder) but I love the Sephora brand eyeliners. The mini ones are great for playing around with fun colors or glitters. I get Clinique moisturizers and my perfume there too.

No boxes? I have gross oily skin and huge pores. It's great on my skin.
