Re: Totally screwed, and not in a fun way

  • I'm sorry you got screwed.

The government literally regulated us out of bonuses.
I love having zero incentive for hard work. Hello, TK on work time!

Lol no kidding. I felt slightly guilty for playing on TK during work, but finding out all this bs lately has really killed my motivation. So whatever.

  • By the time I was hired on, moved from contractor to employee, the company switched the "Bonus" program so basically now only the higher ups get bonuses and everyone else gets dick. We don't get a gift card anywhere, no meal paid for by bosses, nothing. AND we are forced to take vacation time for the two weeks between Christmas and New Years. So I have to make sure to not use that time so that I don't go unpaid.
  • Im salaried, but with a generous vacation and sick leave package. If I work more in a pay period, and took time off during said pay period, my total leave hours taken is shortened until the total hours worked plus leave equals 80.

That is the only thing making me happy about the 5 hour drive to Orlando on sunday for work shit, and the drive back. I took sick leave for eye surgery and can make it up and save the leave.

Not taking the week between Christmas and new years aside from the 26th because I want plenty of leave time available when dad's surgery gets scheduled.

Im hoping this level of dedication leads to the early promotion my boss has hinted is in the works.
  • Ugh, that sucks!

I got into an argument with my company last year because they didn't want to pay me for the day after Thanksgiving, which every one else got off.  They told me since I was "part time" (I don't work Mondays, but I work 10-11 hour days Tues-Fri to make up the hours to full time) that I wouldn't get the day paid.  I got pissed.  I work the fucking 40 hours, I don't really get "vacation" and they don't provide me with any benefits, 401K, healthcare, etc.  I even brought up that they should be subsidizing some of my health care legally since I work full time, and then they caved and gave me the day paid.  It was so frustrating.

I'm glad they finally gave it to you but yeah that sounds frustrating as hell

  • *hugs* Want us to go get your boss like Cousin Eddie did for Clark?
Haha YES! Actually my boss is awesome, It's HER boss who sucks.

I forgot in my giant whine/rant to mention that FI's group is all having catered lunches today and they get fucking filet mignon. And then his boss bought out a whole movie theater so they're spending the rest of the workday watching a fucking movie. They do stuff like this ALL THE TIME. All their group lunches are always at super fancy expensive restaurants that I don't ever get to go to cuz I can't afford it and my stupidass group never goes there.

For my group's xmas party, they're just doing a dinner that I'm not even going to cuz the cheap shitty place they catered the food from makes me super sick every time I eat there. (Last time they had a big special dinner it was catered from there and it was wraps with cold lunch meat in them. wtf?)

Last year our Xmas party was a potluck. in the office. Wow. Thanks.

Boss's boss thinks doing social things is a waste of time and she hates spending any money on parties so my group always gets screwed. My friend's department today took a bus out of town to go to a murder mystery show and a museum and a fancy dinner.

    Bah! Kidnap away!
I'm in the same boat here. We get jack-shit for Christmas except an awkward forced office lunch. Sometimes the boss pays, sometimes not. It's a constant struggle trying to figure out what to order. Bosses' checkbook is much bigger than mine. ;)

  • I'm usually a lurker but I just had to jump in, @novella1186 that absolutely sucks and I definitely know how it feels to feel like you're a "second class employee."

At my job we've been having our evaluations and since I've been only able to work part time on wages, and have been busting my ass (I do all their social media/communications/marketing/run the website) I've been super excited that I might be able to get salaried and hired full time.

So I go into the evaluation with all this data and analytics that I've spent two weeks compiling (we've been gaining followers x% a month while most other companies gain at y% a month, etc. aka "I'm a badass at my job, hire me you fools")...and I get told that I have until January 31st to find another job. My job is "an expensive luxury we can't afford" and that in this next month I should train the other people in my office how to do my job...that they don't want to pay me to do.

They gave me an extra $250 on my paycheck and said to "keep your nose to the grindstone for the next month, we know you're leaving but we don't want work to slack." So I'm on TK. Cheers.

Ugh that is awful. I am so sorry. I hope you find an awesome job you love where they treat you better!

Thanks! I'm updating my resume now as I work/Knot. Thankfully I knew this would be a dead end job anyway so I'm not devistated, I'm more pissed about how they went about it. And I'm sure as hell not going to teach people how to do a job that they deem isn't important. I'm basically gonna throw the password in an email and go, "Here's the logins/passwords, I use InDesign to create all the graphics and newsletters. Godspeed."

H has a great job so we should be okay for a while, and we live in a big city so I should be able to find something, just the thought of job searching makes me want a beer.

Yeah job searching sucks. I totally understand being mad about how they went about it. They sound like they're total rude assholes, and are failing to understand the value of what you do.

  • Ugh, I'm so sorry. I'm salaried too, but at least I'm able to supplement that by teaching a couple classes. So more work! Yay!

I feel like I always start new jobs right *after* they stop giving holiday bonuses. Both jobs I worked at, the first holiday season I was told, "Oh, we got Christmas bonuses last year, but not this year." I must be cursed.
