Calling all lurkers and newbies! (spinoff)

Let's chat!

sarawifenow started the "getting to know you" thread. I noticed a lot of new names, and several people said they've been lurking for a while but are nervous to jump into such a "tight knit" community. Well, feel free to jump here. I was the same way when I first started lurking/posting. It's a little over-whelming when you realize there's some steadfast regs that are really close. That being said, I never felt unwelcome. As long as you're not trolling, I love new people! :)

I was hoping anyone hesitant to jump in could think of this thread as their "safe space." Post something! Anything you want; a thought, a random opinion, your favorite Christmas movie, a pet peeve, a funny story, whatever. This can be a super fun place, so no worries!

Re: Calling all lurkers and newbies! (spinoff)

  • I mostly post on NEY since that's the only board I visited when I first came to TK, but I've been lurking here for ages.

I am planning on finishing my Christmas shopping tonight and getting started on wrapping, so the inside of my head probably looks like this:

Haha I love that movie. "I like smiling, smiling's my favorite!"

I just realized Christmas is next week but I can't figure out if I'm done shopping or not. I always feel like I'm done and then I remember that random uncle or something and I'm like "oh crap."

Also, the ladies on the floor below my decorated their office just like that. No idea how they had the time, but it's bananas down there.

  • @novella1186 - you are actually the sweetest.  I feel like I've said that to you before, but it's really true.  You just go out of your way to be nice to others!!

I don't know if I'm considered a newbie - I started posting here in October or so - but I really love it, and have loved getting to know everyone :)

Aw thank you! You just made me smile! It has definitely been fun getting to know everyone. I've said this tons of times before but I don't know what I would do without you guys!

I'm getting annoyed because it hasn't been on tv yet! The Santa Clause 2 was on every night last week, but no Elf. Lame.

@morewineplease 1- Best.  Screan name.  Ever.

    2. I usually hate cats (I'm convinced they judge me and are planning my demise), but your card is amazing.  I love that cat.  That cat doesn't look like it would judge me.

  • Hello! I've been around for ages but since I'm usually on my phone, I don't always post. I'm usually reading posts though. I also posted just on NEY for a long time.

I'm currently trying to drink my coffee...but it is so gross. I started at 6 this morning so my usual stop at Tims couldn't happen. Work coffee just sucks, but it is better than no coffee.

  • She is not judgmental, but she is scared of every little sound. Once someone has been in the house for a while she will come out but they are not well socialized.

However they might be planning my demise. There are many days I am sure they are looking for soft spots not cuddling. :)

You have my sympathies. Work coffee is disgusting in my office too, so I always made whatever I wanted at home and then brought it. I think the worst thing ever was this summer when we were on a road trip, and it was getting really late but we still had a few more hours of driving to do, so in total desperation I drank the nastiest most awful gas station coffee ever. Omg I felt like I got hepatitis from drinking it. Gross coffee is just not fair

  • Hello! I've been posting since the summer and then had to change my account; I only recently started posting a bit on this board, so I still feel like a newbie, haha!

I'm so sad it's Monday! I had such a horrible hangover all day yesterday (it was worth it though!) that I just laid on the couch watching Fresh Prince and random Youtube videos all day. Not very productive, haha.

Sometimes hangover days are necessary, though. I'm actually surprised I didn't have one this weekend, but I've definitely been there. For some reason when I'm that hungover all I want is a fountain coke and fried chicken. Mmm... fried chicken!

  • @novella1186‌ My situation is slightly improving. I'm ahead of my work and have to wait for a coworker to catch up before I can continue so I've run up to the kitchen to make my bagel. Yum. Peanut butter bagel makes bad coffee better, right?

Haha yes they are definitely necessary sometimes! I find they get worse the older I get, bleh. Yes, fried foods and hangovers are a match made in heaven!

That just made me so hungry. Dang it!

  • Hi there! I've posted and lurked here and there, but haven't really gotten involved in any of the communities on here. I'm getting into the full swing of studying for the February NY bar exam while working part-time as a CT attorney so my life is somewhat miserable right now (kidding...sort of). Between work, studying, and a new puppy, my stress level is HIGH, so I started coming here for some distraction/mental vacation/mini study breaks :)

Christmas shopping....I have zero time for that. I managed to check my fiance off the list (wrapping is another story) but that's it. Thinking I will have to send him out to buy the rest of the gifts, but I'm afraid of what he will come back with ;)

Thanks for providing this opportunity to procrastinate, back to the fascinating world of civil procedure now!

Me too! I was just thinking about that the other day. In my early 20's I'd be out all night, have a few shots, 6 or 7 cocktails, eat a couple cheeseburgers, and wake up the next day totally fine. Now I'm 28 and if I have more than 2 drinks I get the worst headaches. When I'm genuinely hungover I feel like I'm gonna die and I need at least a full day to recover. And FORGET having a couple cheeseburgers when I'm drunk cuz that's just asking for major heartburn. Ugh! I feel so old and boring these days. (Not that 28 and over is an old and boring age to be, that's just how I feel about myself personally, because that's how I act sometimes)

  • Hi there newbies! Welcome!

  • Honestly I have never had a gas station coffee that I didn't love! Now Starbucks and other coffee shops is another story. I also love airport coffee, I know I'm weird! I'm a little sad because I was only a couple of points from a B in one of my classes. Hopefully, my other geology class brings that up. I know I got As in my easy classes. It wouldn't be so nerve wrecking if I wasn't planning on going to grad school.

What are you gonna study in grad school? (or what would your degree be?)

  • @novella1186  It does not get better with age. I try to make sure to have lots of water to prevent the next day from being too bad.

Yeah, I've gotten a little better about obsessively drinking water when I've been drinking alcohol. The biggest problem is when I'm really tired, and drinking makes me more tired, so I just fall asleep without the water, and then I totally pay for it in the morning. Bleh!
