Who the hell does he think I am? (nrw)

DH installed a new hood fan over the oven. It's super snazzy. Downside: our microwave was originally over the oven, so he took it out. Downside: he hasn't yet purchased a new microwave. Downside: I was home alone all day and was craving (in no particular order) canned potato soup, microwave popcorn, frozen pizza, and hot chocolate.

FML.

I mean, seriously, what in the world was he expecting me to eat all day?! Was he thinking I've turn on the OVEN or something?!

Random first world problems that you're currently facing and...go.

  • That's a serious problem. I just used my microwave, in your honor.

I am making delicious foods for various work parties/gifts and I can't stop eating all of it.

  • Send me some food please @maeday2. I am starving. I ended up finishing off Wheat Thins for lunch (I'm off today I couldn't leave the house to get food because Netflix).

But DH is making steak for dinner with sweet potato fries and it smells AMAZEBALLS. So I'm kind of slightly happy that I didn't really eat lunch but I will never admit that to him!
  • When I moved to my apartment it didn't have a microwave. I was insistent I didn't need one because it would force me to cook more. After about a month of trying to cook every damn meal and complaining while I did so, SO showed up with a microwave that he had just hanging out in his basement. I'm so happy now that I have a microwave again! Some days (okay, most days) I really don't want to cook!

  • I am cold and I need to choose between getting out of bed (warm) to get a sweater, or continuing to have cold arms. MY LIFE IS SUFFERING.

  • I really, really want to eat cheese and crackers but I need to wait for my nails to dry first.

    The. Worst.
  • Ahh microwaves are so necessary! I didn't have one when I lived alone for 1.5 yrs and didn't realize how much I missed having one till I had one again.

My ultimate stupid FWP- I wanted to ride our city's new streetcar on the way home from dinner but ended up getting an old one.(only a couple are on the road so far on a specific route that I usually don't take) Decided not to wait in the snow like an idiot for the new one but then realized it was the very next one! (Yes huge transit nerd here)

  • I don't have a microwave or a toaster. I thought I'd miss both and I don't! Oven and stove top cook and re-heat it all!

My random problem is fiance's gift for Christmas arrived and it's much larger than I thought it would be- not sure where to hide it until I can wrap it. It's in the trunk of my car for now...
  • I want a mango margarita from my favorite Mexican restaurant, but it's too late to go and all I have is regular margarita mix at home.

AAAHHH! Yes, I want to ride those! Those and double-decker buses (ie Megabus).

My FWP: I made caramels. They're too warm to eat/cut. I keep staring, and sniffing the dish. This will likely end with a burn in my mouth.

  • My FWP: I want to watch tv but the bath feels too nice and warm and I don't want to get out.

Haha yes! Someone else understands! I've been on the top decker of a megabus once it was the best, lol.

Waiting for baking to cool is the worst!

  • I don't know how you're doing it @JennyColada my microwave broke years ago and it was three days until I could get it fixed. Might as well have been three years.

Although, new stove hood is nice. I have a vent fan installed under/behind the microwave and that shit does NOT work properly. If you boil pasta all the windows fog up. Still, I think I'd rather have the microwave.

Are you planning on putting one on the counter somewhere, or just doing without?

  • I don't think I could survive without a microwave. Like...I cook most things in the microwave. It's harder to start a fire. Not impossible just slightly harder.

So when I was in high school my parents' microwave broke and it took them a while to pick a new one. In the meantime, I got so desperate to make soup that I made a bowl out of aluminum foil and heated it in the toaster oven. In hindsight, I could have just used a real [oven-safe] bowl and heated it in the oven which probably would have been easier, but at the time I felt very efficient [toaster-ovens heat way faster than big ovens cuz they're tiny] and ingenious [I made a bowl!]

ETA: Also in hindsight, I probably should have just heated it in a pot on the stove. Now that I'm thinking of this, I was a dumbass back then.

  • My only problem is that we keep getting gift baskets at work with chocolate and other fatty foods.  Don't they know I'm on a diet???  Geez...

Also I have to say @maeday2 I love your signature gif!! I miss NSYNC!

  • FWP - I have to get up now to go to work.  I just want to sleep in.  :(

  • My new Camelback water bottle is too big to for the cup holder in my car.

My vendors keep sending me chocolates and I have no will power.
  • Are you planning on putting one on the counter somewhere, or just doing without?

@porkchops926‌ we will be getting/installing a new one (not really sure where he's planning on putting it though!). We are looking into getting a kitchen island as well, so it might be a couple weeks. :/

DH is normally the cook in the house (and damn good at it), but we also don't keep extra food in the house. So I'll probably be living off of fast food during my late night work shifts where I miss dinner. :(
  • I have an eyebrow appointment Saturday, but a party tomorrow. I don't want to go looking like a squatch.

  • My FWP: I'm hungover as hell after drinking far too much of a wonderful red wine last night.

I do most of the cooking in our house and almost never use the microwave. DH and son microwave pretty much everything.

  • We ran out of coffee at work.
  • There's something wrong with me, because it would never even occur to me to use the microwave for any of those things. I pretty much only use mine to defrost stuff I forgot to take out of the freezer in time for dinner...is that weird? I'm obsessed with the toaster oven, though.

I have to buy Christmas presents on my lunch break today in the mall attached to my office tower and it's gonna suck. Soooo busy.

  • My FI took most of the day off to go home and go back to bed. I can't do that because a.) meetings and b.) no vacation. He's also taking 4 hours off tomorrow. I wish I had 180000 hours of time off booked like he currently does (might be an exaggeration).

FWP: New, awesome job but no vacation time available for "just cause I want to" days off.

  • Why are all the TV shows on winter break???? What am I supposed to watch while I stuff my face with cookies and knit????

I guess I will have to settle for Jeopardy and Law and Order re-runs.
