Re: What's everyone up to this weekend?

  • Sat: Get to drive up to Detroit to drop my parents off at the airport (they get to go to FL... luckies) and then go back home and prepare for our Christmas party we are hosting with friends - yay!!

Sun: Probably just cleaning from the party and doing laundry.  I like my Sundays chill.

  • Tonight is Long Island Friday. My most favorite day of the week. Hoping to leave work around 2-3pm.

Tomorrow - Heading to my Dad's family 3 hours away for Christmas. I see these guys once a year. And that's it. I'm not looking forward to it. Or having to haul some side dish to share.

Sunday - Watch the Bears play with the local Chicago Bear fan club, cry at the idiocy that is Mark Trestman, laugh at Shitler sitting on the bench and drive the 3 hours back home and lay on the couch and prepare to start another week.

  • - We have that swanky Christmas party tonight with the reverse happy hour. We are also going to purchase our TV provider today so it can be setup when DH sits in the empty house all day waiting for the refrigerator and washer/dryer to be delivered.

    - I also need to get a cashiers check for my down payment, but will do that as close to Monday at 1:00 pm as possible! And I work Sunday.

  • What's a reverse happy hour? Is it just later in the night?

According to the thread, yes that's what has been described.

Ah ha. I see the thread now. That's a stupid term for it. Reverse happy hour would make me think that drinks are more expensive, and therefor, no one is happy.
  • Tonight I will be running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to finish packing and cleaning the apartment, then hopefully going to bed early.

Tomorrow FI and I are going to pack up the truck and the dogs and drive 10 hours to Missouri for Christmas. That should be an adventure...

  • Tonight I"m headed up to my parents house and am taking my mom out for a pre-bday dinner (her bday is tomorrow and my dad is in vegas for work.)  Tomorrow my mom and I are flying out to LA (dad is meeting us there) to spend the week with my brother and sis in law!  My dad is throwing her a surprise party with our west coast family out there!  Then I get to spend 4 days in LA before my parents, brother, sis in law and I go to Laguna where my FI is meeting us for another 4 days!

  • No concrete plans really. We finished our Christmas shopping last night (yay!). We leave for our honeymoon next Sunday, and I want to get some new clothes (what the hell do you wear on safari??) but I am terrified of going to the mall this weekend.

Other than that, just going for a couple of bike rides and watching the Cardinals/Seahawks game on Sunday (go Cards!)
  • Christmas party tonight, and that's about it. I'm hoping to start my present wrapping this weekend.

  • @kat1114 what country are you going to for the Safari?  My parents went on one 2 years ago and are going back because they loved it so much.  They were big fans of those lightweight cargo pants and t shirts with a light jacket/light scarf.  Everything had to be in neutral colors if I"m remembering correctly.

  • Last day of work today too, and it's PJ day!!  DH's company has their Christmas party this weekend, so we're heading to the mountains.  We're either going to go snowshoeing tomorrow, or we're going to sleep all Saturday.  We'll see how we do

  • We are (finally, after cancelling like three times) teaching my friend to ski tomorrow. I'm also in charge of delivering all my office's Christmas hampers (groceries and gifts) to the families we sponsored tomorrow morning, which I am pretty excited about. And Sunday we were invited to go carolling with some of my musician friends but I don't know if I want to actually go...I'll have to check how short they are on sopranos before I decide, lol. FI is a bass so they'll probably want him regardless. Never enough bass in choir-land.

Good to know! :-) We usually get the flan or the brownie sundae. If we go tonight we will get that instead.

  • It's my birthday today, so DH and I are going to one if my favorite Mexican places tonight for margaritas and delicious food. We also have the house to ourselves tonight so much celebrating will be done later too.

Tomorrow morning we are having breakfast with my family and doing family bday celebration, plus finishing up Christmas shopping.

Sunday is my Mon's side of the family Christmas. I will be making food and then the afternoon and evening will be with family. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone!
  • Tonight, going to happy hour and doing our annual Secret Santa exchange with my work crew.

Tomorrow - Going to see the tree with our college friends, and then grabbing a bite to eat. Probably hitting a bar after that.

Sunday - No plans. My BFF has an extra pass for her gym that she needs to use by the end of the year, so I'm going to see if she wants to use it on Sunday.

And at this point this weekend I want to go to that spot I posted about months ago - Tres Carnes. (It's like Chipotle but WAY better). The weekly smoke is pork belly. The last time I had it there was over the summer and it was to DIE for.

  • tonight -- nothing. DH is working.

Tomorrow - cleaning.   We have some friends from Indy coming to visit Sunday night.

Sunday - Our friend from Indy is from Denver and they are visiting his family for xmas.   So they are taking an overnight trip to see us.  They are bringing their bulldog for a play date with our bulldog.   Ha.  They lived downstairs from us and our dogs played pretty much everyday together.   I've told chef hank is coming and he goes nuts.

That said Vail pass  is expecting more than a foot of snow which means they might not be able to actually get here.  We are to get 1/2 a foot or more Sunday/Monday also.  So Sunday might just be me being somewhat snowed in in a clean house.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Have my work Christmas party tonight. Dinner and dueling pianos! Probably will have to bow out early as FI has an early morning flight that takes him out of town until sunday night.

Tomorrow I'll probably do some baking. Whipped Shortbread. om nom nom. Maybe some chocolate zuchinni muffins.

Sunday I'll be doing some grocery shopping to figure out what i want to make for Christmas dinner. FI and I are doing our own little Christmas on Christmas Eve as we both have that day off. I don't want to cook a turkey for two of us so I was thinking maybe a chicken or lamb or something.
    image
  • tonight probably nothing as my FI is working a 14 hr day.

saturday: putting lights in the ceiling in the family room (no fun but needs to be done before we get our carpet put in)

Sunday: if im in a good mood ill help do baking with my mom but if im not i wont because of my niece's. youngest coughs without covering her mouth and the oldest takes over anything and everything..... so my time of baking with them around has ended.

We are going to South Africa. We'll only be on safari 2 nights, so I figure I don't need that much. I have heard other recommendations for the lightweight cargo pants. I want to get the ones that zip off at the knee since it is summer there and warm, but the only place I've seen them is REI, and our REI is at the mall. And the mall the weekend before Christmas sounds like one of the levels of hell.
