Many venues don't even allow shots, but if it's per head it won't matter.

Don't worry about other people getting drunk at your wedding. They will get drunk off beer and wine if that's all you provide. It's really easy to do. I'm drunk off corona right now. It's the light variety, even.

    And yes, I know it's 2pm. I'm having a bad week.
No judgment, man.  I started drinking at noon today, and that's because we were running late - the original plan was to start at 10:30.  We were having an extended version LOTR marathon with two different drinking games (plus additional rules that we made up as we went).  Thank god we weren't doing shots; none of us would have survived the first movie!

ETA: We also had a 7-course Hobbitish feast - first breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, etc.  So we had plenty of food to line our tummies with!
    no judgement here.

I think it's funny when people think drinking needs to start after dark.  I like day drinking on the beach, by the pool or after a ski run.

On vacation people start drinking early in the islands.   Football tailgate parties started early too.  Restaurants often have bloody mary and mimosa specials starting in the morning.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I'm cool with a wedding having a no shots policy.

I was also very happy our venue did not have such a policy. I was leading the charge at times. I'd line up 10 shots with the bartenders, pick out some passerby guests who happened to be hanging in the pub and tell them shots were on us! :-) (and of course everyone would laugh - as everything was "on us.")

And all those able bodied adults at our reception...none of them got out of hand. Imagine that, they were totally able not to wreck the venue, drive drunk, insult other guests or puke on my dress... :-)
