How was everyone's weekend?

Friday we had a nice, chill night. We ordered Chinese and binge watched The Blacklist.

Saturday, we got up early and went out for breakfast. And then I got a new car! It's a 2015 Rav 4 Limited Edition with motherfucking HEATED SEATS! I can't even tell you how happy I am for that. The rest of the car is pretty kick-ass too. This is the exact one I brought home.

Saturday night we went out to dinner with our best couple friends.

Sunday because we hadn't eaten enough already, we went out to brunch. And this bunch was freaking amazing. Breakfast burritos, French toast casserole, 3 kinds of potatoes, so many salads, mac & cheese, 7 different kinds of cream cheese. I was in heaven.  I've also never seen a brunch with so many desserts.

Then after I had stuffed myself sufficiently, I got back into bed to watch TV.

Re: How was everyone's weekend?

  • Hells yes for new cars! That's awesome!

    Our weekend was decent.

Friday night we went out for my friend's birthday and met his new boyfriend. I didn't like him at all, and this is concerning to me buttttt I'm going to keep my mouth shut about it. Hopefully.

Saturday I saw 50 Shade of Grey with one of my BMs, then went to a baseball game with BM and FI, then we all went out to dinner. It was a really fun day.

Yesterday I had a bridal shower which was mostly fun and FI and I got a lot of really nice things.  Afterwards we ate dinner at my grandmother's house and spent time with my huge family, which was nice because I don't get to see them too often.

  • Hooray for new cars! My weekend was good. Got some much needed relaxing and catching up on the phone in. We have today off as well, so I plan to get work done, and I am crossing my fingers that the snow we are supposed to get happens so we get a snow day tomorrow.

  • My weekend was great! Friday night we watched Nightcrawler, which FI had borrowed from a coworker. I guess it's been getting passed around the station since it's a movie about a news photographer. It was very twisted and hard to watch at times, but I thought it was well done. FI liked it but was sad because apparently he had a very similar idea for a short film.

Saturday we went to lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants and then went to the winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. We've lived here for two years and have never visited, so we checked it out. Not terribly impressive, honestly. I like historic estate museums but I've been to ones that I felt were better designed and gave visitors better access to things. You couldn't even go into any of the rooms here.

After that I made chicken picatta for dinner and we ate it while watching the second Austin Powers movie, since we watched the first one last week.

Sunday we mostly hung out in the house and then went to see Kingsman in the afternoon. We liked it! I definitely was expecting a more Cody Banks-ish movie, so I wouldn't have even considered seeing it if FI hadn't suggested it. Then we had dinner reservations at the Melting Pot. I took FI for his birthday last summer and we LOVED it. This time was good too, but they put us at a table rather than the more intimate booth we got last time, and it was a prixe fix (or however you spell it) menu so our options were a little more limited. Still, we'll probably be back, but probably on a less busy time of year.

Then I went to bed and dreamed that I remembered to do everything for our wedding except pick up the marriage license.

  • @theycallmelinz what did you think of 50 Shades?
  • My weekend was good.

Friday, V and I didn't really do much. We just relax and hanged out at the apartment.

Saturday, V helped me with homework and we had an amazing dinner. The weather was really bad here (it still is) so we decided to stay in and cook. We had steak, shrimp, rice, and truffles. It was soo good. Then we just drank some peach fuzzy navels and cuddle on the couch.

Sunday, I was suppose to go for a hike but the bad weather made us cancel. So I just ran some errands instead. V went to sell his laptop to someone who responded to his ad off of craigslist. The idiots "checked" the computer to see if it work by seeing if it connected to the internet....They didn't check the ram or anything. Good thing they didn't respond to someone who would screw them over. Of course they called 30 min later saying, there wasn't a battery....Yeah we know we said so on the ad and email. They haven't called back so I guess that's over with.

And now I'm a sad panda because I woke up for my morning class but my teacher canceled class because of the bad weather. I wish I could go back to bed but I already took a shower and I work at 10:00 so it isn't worth it.

    My novel is done now!

@climbingwife Honestly I enjoyed it, overall. I think I saw wayyyy too much of her boobs in it though. Poor girl was naked most of the movie. It was also very fast paced, and I think if someone saw it without reading the books they would have been like, "Huh? What?" several times. Other than that, I really liked it. The characters worked much better than I expected them to, and they are SO much better than the characters in the book. Have you seen it? If not I do recommended it. Just be prepared for lots of boob action lol

  • Worked on Saturday and ran late and ate a shit ton of candy like a far kid because EVERYONE brings us candy (and donuts) for holidays, even though like 80%of the people that work here are on a diet.
So basically I spent V Day working and then sleeping. Oh and drinking.
Yesterday we basically kept daring each other to get out of bed and then not getting up. When we finally did get up we basically did nothing except eat breakfast and watch Girls.
And then I went for a run (8 miles this week). My poor husband volunteered to run with me for the first 3 miles then we would go back for the bike and he'd bike with me the rest of the way. He hasn't run in months and he hurt his knee trying to keep up with me. I felt terrible so I was super sweet wife bringing him beer and cookies and ice and NSAIDs for the rest of the afternoon.
  • That's an awesome car, congrats! Heated seats are a must.

I'm still in Florida because we have Monday off. I'm super sad to leave tonight, I really don't want to go back to snow and work, ugh. But we're going to the beach today so I'm just going to savor the last day!

  • I love new cars. Congratulations! Seat warmers are awesome.

Friday- I had sushi with a friend. Yum!  After dinner, I went shopping to stock up on food for the upcoming storm.

Saturday- we went to a party that my friend had thrown. There was a sad note, someone had committed suicide at one of our train stations. He jumped in front of a train. They closed the station for a few hours to investigate. We got caught up in the closure but knowing someone had died made me sadder.

Sunday- we got another snow storm. although forecaster had predicted a blizzard, I don't think the winds were heavy enough to be one. It still took an hour to dig out our cars. Thank goodness we had plenty of snacks and electricity during it.

My commute into work today was long and cold. The temperature with wind chill is -20. I had to wait for a shuttle bus outside huddling with strangers to keep warm. Once the bus came, everything else went fine. We are starting to talk about moving to CA. My family is there and most importantly, NO SNOW.

  • Our weekend was really nice... Saturday was mostly our usual (gym for the H, lazing around watching TV for lazy me, laundry), then steaks and crab legs for dinner and we rented The Hobbit. Yesterday we went to an event we go to every year at the Detroit Film Theater where they play all the short films that were nominated for Oscars. As usual, some were SUPER WEIRD and some were adorable. If you can find the full length of Disney's "Feast" anywhere it's the best. Fancy pizza dinner afterward. If there was such a thing as too much cheese, I would have eaten it. But there's not.

  • could have been better. friday night we dealt with a flooded basement because the sump pump pipe to the street froze. oh and the suv we bought to have for winter a caliper bolt broke and flew off getting off the highway. FI figured he could fix it instead of having it towed and we babied it to a hotel parking lot so it didnt get towed. well when we got there saturday the lot was plowed and snow all over underneath the car and it was just coming down to fast for him to fix it, so we towed it and he said hed work on at the house and the jack didnt want to work. so he went to work on the basement in the house (we found the source of the water yay!) and he found out that the source of water coming in was actually a sewage pipe that broke (no yay here, house smells like shit literally)
yesterday i spent all day by myself. no complaining here. it was nice.
this morning wasnt great because i cant get into my work email (change over the weekend) and the computer passwords changed on us. is it time to go home yet?

  • Yay for new car Saturday! That's a pretty bangin' Valentine's day.

Saturday I went to a Valentine's fundraiser for a local animal society with my sister. They make the cutest sets for each holiday and you can donate to the cause to get your pet's picture taken. Huckleberry only nervous peed once, so it was a win.

We then binged watched trash TV, drank wine, and ate snacks.

Sunday I was lazy. I did laundry. That's about it.

Because it's my current favorite picture. Here's Huckleberry servin' up the smiles.

I also posted this on the valentines day thread but I got in that thread too late. I think this picture is hilarious so I will shamelessly share it again.

I stood outside at a hockey tournament all weekend. FI's team won all but one of their games!!! They almost won the championship!!!

Here is me at -30 on the left. My eyelashes collected ice and it felt weird.

    image
You are not wearing enough clothes for -30. And by clothes I mean there is not a building with heat on around you. Holy God I am never moving to Michigan.

My weekend was pretty good. Friday I came home and crashed way early (like, nine), and FI got home at 12:40 and I was so asleep he left me upstairs. I felt bad because even if I go to sleep before he gets home, I usually get up and visit with him when he comes in because if I don't, I don't get to talk to him that day.

Saturday my sister and I BOTH went dress shopping with my mom, my grandmother, and my sister's BF. She got a beautiful prom dress for her senior prom and she looks fantabulous in it, and I got a wedding dress and I look fantabulous in it (if I do say so myself). And then we went shoe shopping, and then we went and ate, and I really think that was the only part her BF enjoyed. Poor kid, haha.

Sunday I cooked my first ham ever. FI ate at least four pieces of it, so I call it a success. Dad said it was too salty, but backpedaled when I told him I hadn't added any salt at all.

  • It's been good so far.  Friday night I worked till like 11 then got an email that more work was coming in the morning.  So I skipped going out and I crashed.  Fi went out for FSIL's birthday and they had a great time.

Saturday I awoke without a work email, so we went out for Mexican brunch.  Still no email.... got a mani/pedi.  Still no email.... went into the office to work on other things.  Four hours later at 10pm... done with everything else, no email.  So I busted out of there.  Still no email about this assignment.

Yesterday we slept late, went out to brunch again because we love brunch (or because we had no food in the house, you decide), ran errands, then came home and watched SNL while drinking wine and playing Monopoly.  It was pretty great.

Today we're both off of work but I still have work to do, so I'm working from home and Fi is straightening up the house.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • We hung around all weekend. We did as many errands and chores as we could on Saturday and just spent most of yesterday lounging on the couch. DH had to work today, so I'm currently sitting at the computer wearing 23947529475 layers because the windchill is in the negatives, and our heat just isn't keeping up.
    ~*~*~*~*~

  • Saturday I went to yoga, cleaned the apartment and made banana bread. DH got home too late to go to his favourite Thai restaurant for dinner so we went out for burgers instead. He brought home chocolates and flowers. The cats are obsessed with the flowers - one cat wants to eat them and the other cat just wants to paw them, so I have to keep the flowers in the only closet they can't open when we aren't around.

Sunday I alternated watching Friends with fun reading and school reading.

FI and I always go to these hiking trails in a forest on the outskirts of town on the weekends to get exercise. We both hate the gym, so being able to get outside and do 5km of hiking with some great hills in the snow really gets our blood pumping.

So Saturday we did a 5km hike, came home and made turkey meatballs in marinara sauce and had a bottle of wine while watching The Theory of Everything.

Sunday FI had to work 1pm-10pm, Before he left he convinced me to do our hike by myself. I've always been a little leery of hiking in a dense forest in slippery snow by myself. I'm a very small girl and of course it's been ingrained into me that small girls shouldnt wander alone. (stupid society). Anyways, FI convinced me to go because we had seen a lot of other women on the trails by themselves, there is also young families and the weather was beautiful so they should be busier. (Theres been times we've gone and only seen 1 other person). We've also never seen any wildlife on the hikes and we've been doing the trails for a year.

So off I went. Feeling super empowered and brave and was getting up a pretty good clip in my pace when i get to a portion of the trail that is a steep incline S shaped incline that ends down by a river. I'm shuffling fast down the hill and come around the last bend at the bottom at almost a jog and come face to face with a moose. A friggen MOOSE!

I turned around and went straight back up that steep hill and almost died because i'm not in that great of shape and this hill is killer steep and my heart was also racing because I thought I was going to get mauled by this moose.

Anyways I made it to the top fine and the moose continued to munch away at the leaves at the bottom.

Then I came home and drank some more wine.

  • I got home from a hectic business trip around 5 on Friday. We grabbed dinner, did some work/homework, and were probably asleep before 9:30.

Saturday was a day of errands. First, I took care of our errands then I moved to all of the stuff for MIL. She's living with BIL and SIL now that we know she's terminal. They're amazing and have the most flexible schedules but they need help. I bought medical supplies, groceries, prescriptions, activities/treats/toys for the kids, etc. The night was the 60th birthday party for a friend's mom. It was at a banquet hall and possibly fancier than our wedding. We were the only non-Polish folks there and didn't understand 90% of what was said. Great food though, and we got a kick out of the DJ.

Sunday was fixing the broken bathroom sink and DH's family. Everyone's gathered to talk with their mom about continuing/discontinuing treatment. It was a very long day. I'm glad it's Monday.

You guys all had such fun weekends! New cars? Sports? Hiking? Sweet!

Several people at work had said things to me along the lines of, "Oh your first Valentine's as a married couple! It'll be so special!" I don't really buy into that but it turned out awesome.

On Friday night, I went with one of my close friends to see our city's ballet company. It was fantastic. Any other ballet fans here? The company did pieces by three different modern choreographers. The third piece in particular was so mesmorizing I just didn't want it to end.

Saturday we hopped a plane to Cabo. (My husband works for an airline so we go standby.) It is so freaking cold here, and I happen to like winter, but I'm just done. I'm cold. We're not even beach people but damnit, we needed out. Cabo's weather was perfect and we just sat by the pool and relaxed with cocktails. And we saw a destination wedding and the outfits were beautiful, fwiw.  Had a little trouble with the non-rev gods getting home, but made it. Now I'm at work. And I'm cold.

  • I got some of that too - "Omg, it's your first Valentine's Day as a married couple!!! SQUEE!" Someone asked me what I got him and when I said nothing (we don't swap gifts for V Day), they were shocked.
  • Yay for new cars.

I basically hid from the weather this weekend.

It was good.  Friday I had a nice morning.  Then I went to work for a few hours.  When I got home FI had set up our V-day living room picnic.

Saturday FI worked, and I did some house chores and made cinnamon rolls that FI had 4 of when he got home.  I guess he liked them.  We then spent the day cuddled

On Sunday I got up when FI left for work.  I did some research into some marriage prep courses that are secular.  I then did some more reading, a bunch of homework and then I made dinner when FI got home.  And we cuddled on the couch and watched some more episodes of Shameless

That's when you drop that y'all bought a new car. BOOM. Valentine's done right.

  • Sounds like you guys had nice weekends!  Congrats on your new car @cilmbingwife!

My weekend was busy and not as much fun.  I pretty much did homework all weekend.  My FI and I also house sat and pet sat his sister's dogs and his parent's house.  Friday night I was working on homework.  I managed to sneak in an episode of Reaper with my FI and then went back to work.

Saturday I was doing homework pretty much all day until we went out for dinner for Valentine's Day.  On the way back, we had an interesting experience with my FI's car.  We were almost to his parents house on a quiet neighborhood street so we were not going too fast, maybe 25-30 mph.  He pushed down on he gas a little bit more and the engine started revving and the car was accelerating beyond his control.  He pushed on the brakes, but they weren't working.  He changed gears, but the engine was still revving.  We could smell the burn from tires.  My FI was insistent on me getting out of the car in case he were to lose absolutely any control.  I was so panic stricken that I could not think clearly myself. He was able to slow down enough so that I could get out.  He then put it into park, but it continued to move ahead slightly and rev up.  Luckily, the car was not going fast at this point.  Finally, he turned off the car which seemed to stop the car from moving, but the engine still revved.  When it had settled, he put it in neutral and pushed the car while I directed it into the driveway.  About a half hour later, he tried turning the car on again and it was working just fine.  So weird.  His car is a Toyota, which had those massive recalls for unintentional acceleration a few years back.  His car year was during the years that they had been recalled.  He has never had anything like that happen to him before.

So yeah, that was interesting and scary.

We hung out and cuddled the rest of the night.

Sunday I went back to doing homework.  I am kind of procrastinating right now because this is more fun than kinesiology.

  • @kmbay84 That's so scary I'm glad that nothing super serious happened.  Are you guys taking it into the dealership?

  • Thanks @falsara!  It could have been so much worse.  I am glad that we weren't on the highway!  My FFIL told my FI to take his car instead since he didn't want my FI driving it until he brought it into the dealer.  So, my FFIL is taking care of that today while my FI drives his dad's car to work, which is super nice of him.  I think FFIL is taking it into a Toyota dealer or something and he thinks that they will just take care of it because of all the lawsuits brought against Toyota for the unintentional acceleration accidents.  We will see, but that is so nice of FFIL to take care of that for us!
  • @kmbay84 That is really nice of him.  And he's right, normally dealerships will run some tests and then take care of it.   Honda model I have was found to have some issues and I got a note saying I needed to take them in for some testing to make sure.
