  • @swazzle I hope you feel better!

@cu97tiger I love all of those dresses. I think that any of them will look great with nude wedges!

    @labro the walls look great!

@bethsmiles I know the feeling about the current job. I hope you can get into a teaching position that you will enjoy more!

@CocoBellaF I hope everything goes well tomorrow. You will be in my thoughts.

@GoldenPenguin YUM! That menu sounds amazing!

The weather was awful all weekend (by SD standards), with it being rainy and windy and in the mid 50's. FI and I had the windows open all weekend long! We didn't do much apart from hang out and drive a friend to the airport, but it was needed after the long week we both had. We had a beer and Girl Scout cookie pairing at a local brewery Friday night, but didn't do much other than that.

FI and I brainstormed some wedding ideas this weekend and set up a Skype session with a potential officiant. We want to incorporate some little Electrical Engineering touches into our day without it being too over the top, so we have been running ideas back and forth a lot. I think that we decided on adding a subtle gold circuit print to the cake, but I have no idea if the cake decorator can even do that or how much advance notice they would need to practice. I'm open to ideas too!

@AuroraRose41 - As a fellow EE, I think that sounds adorable! ;) I recently found an Etsy shop called ReComputing where they take parts of circuit boards and make all kinds of random knick-knacks. I think they're mostly computer boards, but thanks to all my circuitry classes I'm really considering getting one of the necklaces they have.

My friend also has a kick-ass bracelet made out of resistors woven together. Maybe you could incorporate some colorful (or single color striped) ones into the centerpieces somewhere. REALLY random idea, but throwing it out there cuz it can look great. Something like this: LINK

  • @AlPacina I will have to check out that shop! And all ideas are welcome :). I want to AW the StD's that FI and I are probably going to use, because I think you will love them (another touch that we probably are going with):

imageWe are going to make a few minor modifications, such as hiding funny secret messages in the binary if you convert it to ASCII and probably adding one of our e-pics and our website to the back instead of the red and white background, but you get the idea. We have a friend who is a graphic designer who can help us customize them.

For the non EE's, I am going to try to explain what FI and I are thinking of doing for our cake in pictures as best I can. I have not seen anything quite like it anywhere online, so you have to use your imagination a bit.

Here's what a printed circuit board looks like:

And here is the best way to describe what we want to do to the cake with the gold print above instead of the gold dots shown. We might have it only on certain sides or alternating tiers or covering the whole cake. And I do still want flowers on it, but probably white ones.

  • @AuroraRose41 - I DO love those STDs! That would be so fun to put a secret/funny message in there! My ex had a blanket covered in binary code, and we finally figured out that it translated to "Binary blanket" repeated a couple of times, haha.

I like it! Also, I am that nerd who went through the binary on the front of those STD's to see if there were messages already hidden in it. Unfortunately it was just random 1's and 0's :(. FI was making fun of me for checking, but now he is excited to come up with things to put in there.

Uh, what?!? You figure it would at least say "Save The Date" or something. WEAK. I don't judge you one bit for checking. As previously noted, I translated a blanket, haha!

I know right?! And the target customers for these are EXACTLY the people who are going to check, so why not do your research and figure out a way to incorporate
    something in there.

Now FI and I have to figure out what to put in there. I admittedly like the Pinterest "Open Bar" message, but am not 100% sold on that yet (Our wedding will have an open bar and be heavily photographed etc.). Something along those lines would be fun though, especially because the friends who will translate it would find it hilarious.

    ETF: disappearing boxes

  • @AlPacina, I was looking through the etsy shop that you recommended, and had another idea that I wanted to run by everyone. Keep in mind that the StD's and the cake are the only two things we have so far, and everything else will be traditional.

I have been at a loss for what to do for a card box, and now after seeing some DIY picture frame ones, I am wondering if that ReComputing shop could make us one. Either that, or cut out some letters to spell out "Cards" to put on an otherwise traditional box. Would that be too much with the cake and StD's?

  • @AuroraRose41 - The STDs are a whole different story from an entirely different time of exposure. I think just focus on how much is going to be at the wedding itself. If it is a cake and a card box, then I really don't think that's overkill at all! An entire box made of circuitry might not look nice enough with the other traditional decor, but I personally like your idea with the letters if they can do it. Definitely write to them through Etsy and ask if they can make custom shapes for the orders! Just my opinion, of course.
