So, I'm a grown up who loves to color - what's your weird hobby?

  • One of my new hobbies after my breakup was crocheting and then I gave myself trigger finger and had to stop while it heals.  So now, I've taken up coloring.  I got this insanely awesome grown up coloring book and some nice colored pencils and it's seriously so calming and relaxing.  I highly recommend it.

What weird hobbies do you have?
I read about this last week. I've had it in my Amazon shopping cart since then, just deciding if I should pull the trigger.

I love to crochet but I'm horrible at it. I can do one stitch- and not very well. Yet I still love buying yarn...

I'm pretty excited about genealogy lately. I don't have a lot of time for anything at the moment but I'm enjoying the process of figuring it out. I recently discovered that my dad's family has been here since the 1760's so I've been reading up on the areas they lived in. It turns out that every old area has a historical society that publishes books/pamphlets so I keep buying these little mini-histories that were written in the 50's and 60's. It's kind of a blast.

  • My FI is huge into Lego. His Star Wars Lego collection is getting out of hand. And really hard on the wallet lol.

I actually really enjoy helping him build it. Drink some wine, watch a cheesy movie and build lego! It's kind of a special date night thing now (heck he proposed to me by hiding the ring in a box of lego). Some of those suckers take 4 hours to build!

As for my own personal thing, I have a teddy bear that FI bought me a couple years ago 'to keep me company' when he's on overnight flights. I like to make him little clothes, even though i am absolutely terrible at hand sewing. Ive made him swim trunks, santa pants with suspenders, an Ewok hood. I think next Im going to have to make him some dressier clothes.  haha. Its so lame.

  • I love coloring and FI likes coloring with me too.  We were running errands one day and got lunch at a place that has the kid place mats with crayons.  When we went and got a seat he asked the waitress to each bring us one.

Also my mom still gets me and my sister coloring books as stocking stuffers every year, with crayons.  And then we sit and color them.

I have pretty normal hobbies; reading and video games.  I can go through a book or more a day on a lazy Saturday, so I really do love reading. I also know how to make stained glass, and i used to make it pieces pretty often, but, I don't really have the time right now with classes, internship and job.  It can also be expensive to get all the materials and I feel a little guilty paying for glass or copper foil while I'm saving for the wedding.

Those coloring books look freaking amazing!!!!!  I should get some, but they'll probably sit on my shelf for a while.

  • I love coloring. I'll totally bust out the crayons and little kid books from time to time and spend entirely too much time shading. I bought my sister a grown up coloring book and nice colored pencils for Christmas and really regretted not getting one for myself, but now all the ones I want are out of stock on Amazon. Boo hiss.
Thsi is the other one I've been doing and it's awesome (and in stock)

    I want this one.

Man legos! I used to love legos. That would be fun. I heard those Star Wars ones are expensive. Do yall just keep them some place one they are built?

  • Those coloring books look awesome! I have the fine motor skills of a toddler but the perfectionism of a high-achieving adult, so coloring, crocheting, crafting, etc. tend to be more frustrating than fun for me. Like, I know damn well what things are supposed to look like, and I have an idea in my head that is bitchin', but I lack the patience and skill to manifest it.

Basically, I would like prints of all your colorings, please.

This isn't a hobby, per se, but I like to invent stupid songs and sing them to my dog. They are terrible songs. They are mostly amelodic, meandering, and consist of stupid lyrics involving the cuteness of his face. It's insane because I am actually a musician and I know the songs are shit but I can't stop myself. Making them "good" would take too much thinking, and a proper Dumb Dog Song must be extemporaneous. ;)

  • I went to Disney World 74 times last year, although you can't tell it in my house.

We have one of those cubie things from Ikea. That they get displayed on in the Den. When we buy a house we plan on putting a heavy wide wood shelf around the top of an office space for them

  • I have the Color Me Drunk coloring book, haven't sat down to color it yet though.

Uh, lets see, probably my most recent "Chibiyui is not quite an adult yet" hobby has been trying to track down and collect certain Nintendo Amiibo. I'm not collecting ALL of them, I just wanted the Zelda ones, and Rosalina cause she's pretty....But then the new Kirby game had amiibo compatibility, so I HAVE to get all the Kirby amiibo's, and they just announced wave 4, which has Ganondorf, so I need to get him to finish my Zelda collection, and Palutena just looks so cool.....

I haven't colored for a while. I took it up when I was caring for my MIL who had dementia. I bought adult coloring books and a giant pack of Crayola Crayons to keep her mind occupied. Turned out to be a great buffer for me. While she repeated the same story over and over again, I colored my heart out, nodded, smiled and patted her hand.

I think I want the 'Unicorns are Jerks' coloring book from amazon.

  • I love coloring and that book looks awesome!

I also really like jigsaw puzzles. Bad weather outside + 1,000 pieces = happiness

  • I'm also a fan of a good puzzle. FI thought it was a little nerdy at first, but now he's the one going straight to the game cupboard on a rainy day.
  • Not "weird" per se, but definitely different since I live in super urban Northern New Jersey...  but I LOVE to go country-line dancing :)

ETA: that coloring book looks amazing!
Do you go to the Colorado Cafe? A lot of people I went to high school and college with go there. I had my birthday there many years ago and my friends all rode the mechanical bull to amuse me.

I also love to color, though my current coloring book collection is mostly Lisa Frank and Precious Moments. I'm also a prolific jigsaw puzzle assembler. I also make jewelry and cross-stitch pieces. My current project is to decorate a Who-themed nursery for my friend. I have another dozen or so pieces I still have to stitch.

I DO go to the Colorado Cafe, lol!  Not as much as I used to, but I really like it there.  I've never ridden the bull though- I'm typically planted on the dance floor (
    or at the bar...)

KatieinBkln - I sing songs to my dog ALL the time- but I take regular songs (Brittany Spears, You are my Sunshine, etc.) and change the words to make it dog-centric.  It's terrible, and I am embarrassed for myself- but I can't help it :)

I do the same thing. Once I ass-dialed my mom while I was singing to my dog to the tune of "Oh Canada" but changing the words to like, "Oh bulldoggggggg, my big fat snotty coowwwww".

    SO EMBARRASSING.

Hahahaha! Yeah, I'll sometimes put dog-words in a real melody, too. One time I came home from a night out and basically just bellowed love songs at my dog while FI just laughed and shook his head at me. I could not be stopped. No shame in my dog-song game.

-------------I'm assuming the box will be missing-----------------

Big dog is scared of thunderstorms, so whenever it storms I sit under a blanket with him (like in a little fort that I make) and sing Beatles songs, and try to be louder than the thunder lol. If anyone walked in on that, they'd realize what a total idiot I am.

Other than that, I definitely make up stupid songs to sing to my dogs. And I'm a terrible singer.

  • Well at @lolo883 's advice, I totally ordered my best friend the Unicorns are Jerks coloring book!

I wouldn't call this a hobby, but when the mood strikes me I really like organizing paperwork. Like I'll go through my file box and throw out all the things I no longer need (like electric bills). I am not sure why I keep them in the first place. I'll make new folders for the items that have been sitting on my mail table stacking up.  I always feel so accomplished when I finish. Also, going through drawers and making a donation bag. I feel good donating but I feel better about de-cluttering.

To the bolded: I do the SAME thing!! But sometimes, I use popular songs & just change the name. My dog's name is Sadie, so if there's a certain song with the word "baby" in it, I change it to "Sadie" (i.e. In my best Justin Bieber voice:
"And I was like, Sadie, Sadie, Sadie ooooooh, like Sadie, Sadie Sadie nooooo"). I, however, am NOT a good musician, haha!

Message me the next time you go. I live, like, down the road from there.

I'm also guilty of changing words to songs. Not for our pets since we don't have any. Just... into inappropriate stuff as I belt at the top of my lungs in the car. With the windows open. Makes traffic a little easier to deal with.
