Let's talk about lingerie.

I don't think we've had a lingerie thread in a while.  This is kind of WR because I am searching for a low-back bra or bustier to wear under my wedding dress.  But it's making me think that I just don't pay enough attention to my "foundation garments" in general.  I buy the same size from VS without really thinking about it, and their stuff just doesn't really hold up over time for me-- the straps are all stretch out by the end of the day.  I just purchased a couple of minimizer bras from Soma and really like them for a smoother look under work dresses (small band, large cup club).

So where do you shop for lingerie?  Any tips for seamless, low back designs?  What did you wear/ are you planning to wear under your wedding dress?  And did anybody successfully pull off sexy lingerie or did you just peel off your dress and jump into bed?

I didn't wear a bra with my dress (just cups sewn in). I was the standard VS girl for years but now... honestly I don't even know. Whatever brand fits that day at whatever department store I wind up at when I decide I need a new bra. Haven't found one to be loyal to yet.

I did slip into the wedding night lingerie (something white and frilly from Macy's) plus a few on the honeymoon, and H was a fan, but mostly don't bother.

Edited because Swype made me look drunk. I am not drunk, I promise.

  • I am no help because I either shop at VS or the sex store for super skanky stuff that is definitely not high quality.  But I also want some good stuff for wedding night and HM, so I will be stalking this thread.  FWIW, I went into VS today and they had a couple cute wedding-y things, but it was mostly underwhelming.  I didn't buy anything.

  • I'm wearing a corset from Macy's and spanx under my dress!

I like to get sexy stuff from Adam and Eve and I'm a big Victoria's Secret fan for everyday stuff

  • I'm no help either. I've never actually been sized. I guess I'm a 34B and they seem to fit ok, I'm still learning to be an adult ha.

  • I'm a Frederick's of Hollywood girl. They used to have a much better offering of shapewear, and I have a few pieces from them that I love.

For the wedding, I was able to wear my normal bra. I brought something cute and frilly for the wedding night, but we were honestly too drunk and tired after the bar crawl that you couldn't have paid me to deal with it. I barely had the energy to shower before passing out.

  • Under my dress I had a long line bra sewn in. I bought two bras from Her Room. The first one was a 34 D (the size I normally wear) but the seamstress said it was too big, so then I bought a 32 D.

For the wedding night I wore a white nightie that my sisters got for me. My husband was so drunk though, so I am not sure he even remembers it.

  • I have bra cups sewn into my dress, and I don't think I'm going to wear anything else under it - it's gonna be hot as hell already and it's an A line so spanx won't help my thighs anyway.  I did buy some Monistat anti-chafing gel which I plan to slather all over.

I bought some lingerie, but I think I might just save it for the honeymoon.  I'm going to be a sweaty gross mess after wearing the heavy dress all night.

  • I bought a Fauve bra in London. I wore it by choice on the plane back, over my sports bra that I'd brought specifically for the plane rides. It's a 38E, and it is literally the only bra I have that fits comfortably. As such, I've worn it every bra-wearing day since Christmas and now it's pretty much been ruined by excessive wearing and subsequently excessive washing, and the occasional use of the dryer in desperate situations.

I HIGHLY recommend the brand despite that. Just, um, buy more than one. :)

As far as sexy underthings, I go to the sex shop (in person, generally, for underthings) and get cheaply made shit that ruins after two wears.

  • For every day, I'm loyal to the VS very sexy bra and whatever underwear I think is cute (also VS).

For the wedding, I wore sticky boobs and spanx - I know, super sexy. I changed into a VS get up afterwards. Most of my lingerie is VS but that's many because I don't know where else to go. Randomly H&M used to have some really cute sets that would be fun honeymoon lingerie. Not sure about now, I haven't bought anything there in a long time.

  • I'm a fan of VS, especially their T shirt bras. I also love their 5 for 27$ panty deals. That's my normal everyday go to. For sexy stuff, I buy cheap on amazon, and it gets ruined after a few wears, but hey, it was under 10$.

No clue for my dress yet. Its low cut in the front so I might just get cups sewn in.

  • My bras and panties come from Gap. I used to like VS, but their quality has gone way downhill and I feel like a lot of their stuff is geared toward teenage girls.

For the wedding, I wore Spanx and a longline bra. I was not planning to wear either, but my seamstress shamed me into it. I was happy with the way it all looked together. I didn't wear anything fancy for H that night, but I did make him look the other way when I took my dress off. Because there is ZERO sexy about Spanx and a longline bra. Literally nothing.

I am not much of a snazzy lingerie person anyway. Maybe once I am ready to have sex again I will buy something fancy. Right now, I just want the bruises and inscision scars to go away.

  • I guess I'm just weird but I have always disliked VS. They are super overpriced, sizes are not consistent, and not the best quality. I get all my undies from tjmaxx and Marshall's. They have really soft, high quality brands that I'd find at a department store but for half the price. Bras I like Target and H&M.

  • I'm a freak size, 28FF(28H in the US) and Freya is the only brand that fits me right and doesn't just stretch out until they're too loose to wear again. I buy them online now that I know the fit but I used to have to go in to specialty stores and try everything on and hope something would look okay without looking super granny.

I used to try to wear 32DDs from wherever I could find, VS or whatever, but I was in constant pain and finally thought there had to be a better way. And there is. Now that my bras actually fit, I never even think about my chest or back during the day because I'm completely comfortable. It's incredible. I never have to adjust, I just get to go about my business in a perfectly fitting bra. I used to be constantly fixing straps and yanking on it. The difference the right bra has made to my life is SO MUCH more significant than I could have predicted.

I still buy the sexy stuff that i don't intend to wear long from VS or whatever but it just doesn't fit me so it's only for show.

I'm just not wearing a bra with my dress as the bodice is plenty structured. I wouldn't be comfortable if I was stuck in something ill-fitting but sexy all day and I don't have the luxury of well-fitting and sexy, so...

  • I usually start at one lingerie store at the mall and work my way through them until I find something cute that fits right. My last bra was from VS.

I wore a lacy strapless bra, lacy panties, a garter belt and thigh highs under my wedding dress.

    Anniversary
  • I buy my regular bras from Bra bar and I like then a lot. I have the least sexy bra even invented for the wedding, but it holds everything in.

FI doesn't care for lingere but I bought something I feel beautiful in for the honeymoon.
  • I'm learning things!  Never heard of Bra bar, Fauve, and only vaguely of Freya.  I will have to check those out. :)

  • I hate to be, but I'm pretty loyal to VS. Every time I try to stray, I regret it. Aerie is all right but the bras don't last as long.

Forloveandlemonds has super pretty but super $$$ stuff.

My wedding dress was strapless with cups so all I wore underneath was undies. I'm glad because I still got sweaty af.

  • @FiancB now I want EVERY SINGLE THING on for love and lemons.

  • I'm bigger than you are (plus sized), if memory serves,  so what I buy probably won't apply to you.

I intended to get cups sewn into my dress but, when the time came, it didn't make sense. To accommodate the cups, the chest would have needed to be let out. Instead, the dress fit pretty nicely in the chest and I skipped the bra and cups altogether. Also, serious Spanx.

For lingerie, DH doesn't care so I pretty much skip it. I bought stuff for our wedding night but we were so tired that it didn't happen. I'll pull it out if we ever go on a honeymoon.

  • I generally get my bras from wacoal, as they seem to work and fit the best for me for everyday.  For the wedding, I purchased a longline strapless bra from linda the bra lady (i bought it online but  he has a store you can go into in NYC- they have a large variety of sizes and styles and do consultations if you want to get professionally measured) that I'm hoping will work well. I'm bringing it to my first fitting to see how it looks with the dress.
  • @JCbride2015 Linda The Bra Lady in Murray Hill is amazing. I really like Angela as a fitter. If you're going on a weekend make an appointment- it's not a browsing store, they measure you and bring what they think will work based on what you say you're looking for. I typically get one or two there and then stalk the brand on line for cheaper.
  • I had cups sewn into my dress, and wore a white lacy thong my Mom bought me that said Bride on it.  I wore the black Mrs. one the next day.  DH doesn't mind lingerie, but doesn't really see the point since he takes it off immediately, so I don't really buys it anymore.  VS, Fredricks of Hollywood and La Senza were my go too places.

I have a slightly weird bra size, if correctly measured, but I get by in regular sizes too, so I tend to buy those at VS/La Senza instead.  I looked once at a specialty shop for my correct size and it was $120 for an ugly granny bra with no lift.  No thanks.

Forloveandlemonds has super pretty but super $$$ stuff.

I have to say it has been the opposite for me, I have had Aerie bras for 5 years and they are still good as new. One of the first one I bought broke this past week after 5 years of constant use, etc.

@JCbride2015 you could check out AdoreMe.com for lingerie. Everything on the site is 39.95 or 49.95 and its good quality stuff. Sizes are pretty accurate.

As for the wedding day, I bought a cute strapless bra I think its Calvin Klein and a girdle I got at a lingerie boutique. I have yet to go back and get the undies. I prob wont change into anything for the wedding night unless someone gifts me something. I might think to get 1 or 2 things for the HM

  • Well, I am going to be no help. I went commando in my dress and had cups sewn in hahaha. Literally the only thing I wore under my dress was a pair of bandalettes (best suggestion ever, @beethery)

I had planned on changing into some nice lingere, but it never happened.

As far as regular bras go, I just grab whatever from target. I have heard good things about Soma, but I reeeeallllyyy can't see spending that much money on a bra.
  • Oh I forgot about adore me. I've gotten a few things from there but overall I'm not super thrilled with the quality, at least of the bras. Their corsets are pretty rad though. H is the opposite of a lot of dudes mentioned in the thread where he really loves lingerie so I could stand to stock up.
    image
  • I love Gap Body and that Jillian something brand from Target for everyday wear.

I got some beautiful well made lingerie pieces from Etsy shops from Europe, and some pretty things from BHLDN
  • I buy lingerie when I got to the Toronto area and can go into the lingerie boutiques.  I also order stuff online from places like Bravissimo, Brayola, Butterfly Collection, and HerRoom.
    image
  • Most of my bras (of which there are few) come from like....target. Ross. I think I have maybe one or 2 from VS but it just seems pointless for me. I gots itty bitty titties. I go bra less a lot.

And um for sexy not gonna wear long stuff....is it weird that I go to hottopic? And like sex shops. Usually I just rock and undershirt and some little boy short style undies. Or ya know the naked looked. Naked (wo)man. It works yo.
  • I heard some really bad shit about Adore Me. Like they sign you up for some weird membership thats $50/month and their customer service to get out of it is awful, so be careful there.
