Miss to Mrs

I was just looking at this online because I had heard about it from a friend that used it to change her name after she got married.  From what I read it looks like they just basically let you fill out all the forms needed to change your name and then you take it to the filing offices and file it?  Or am I missing something?  If so, what is the $29.95 for?

Re: Miss to Mrs

  • I didn't use Miss to Mrs, but I've heard of them. I think their fee is a service fee.

Honestly, it wasn't hard at all to change my name. Total time between the clerk and recording office, ss office, and DMV was maybe 3 hours. I would just do it myself. Then again, it might be different in other states.

  • @sarawifenow on the website they advertise, save yourself 13 hours of paperwork!  I was thinking, there's no way.  No way.

  • The worst part about changing your name is waiting at the SS office and the RMV! Filling out the paperwork is easy! Save your money!

  • All it does is autofill the forms for you, then its up to you to send it. I heard half the time they didn't do it right and you had to redo them correctly/fillin additional info anyways. I didn't see the point.

  • This seems like a waste of money. Changing my name wasn't that hard at all, and I certainly didn't spend hours on paperwork.
  • Save your money.  Even though you get all the forms you still have to go to SS office and the DMV and your bank and such to change your name.  So really you aren't saving yourself any time at all.

As for the 13 hours of paperwork.  What in the hell kind of paperwork are they talking about?  These kind of things are just scams.

  • If they could've saved me the 3 hours I spent at the Harlem DMV, I would have considered it.

Alas, that is not a service they offer.

  • The only place that had a form I had to fill out was the SSA. Every other place from the DMV to the bank, just had me show them a certified copy of my marriage license. Nothing to fill out, maybe had to answer a few questions. Took me 2 or 3 hours max to change EVERYTHING, and it only took that long because there was a line to change my name on my car title.
  • I found changing my frequent flyer mile accounts to be the worst.

QFT. I have had a harder time changing my southwest rapid rewards account than anything else. So effing annoying. It's airline points, not my identify, FFS!!

  • I did find it weird that some places were so lax about changing my name/address (like, you know, my bank) and others (like Nordstrom) were like "we can't do this change without you sending us this 17 pieces of information and 14 pieces of documentation, photocopies are not allowed and you cannot email them, they have to be posted and please fax us this other page because we are living in the '80s.
  • I'm waiting for our corrected official license before I begin all this.. and even then will likely wait until June when I'm off work..

Changing credit cards - do you have to show proof of anything or was it just hey change my name to DH'slastname?? I'm hopeful most of these I can do from home and just have to hit the SS office and DMV in person.

CitiBank was easy. I just submitted the change and got a new car. BofA needed a copy of the marriage license.
  • I think it would be a waste of money- every form I had to fill out (SSA, DMV) I had plenty of time to do it while waiting for my number to be called (although I did the SSA one in advance to be sure b/c going during their business hours was a PITA for me), and you still have to go in person for those things so it wouldn't have saved me any time.

Everywhere else I've done so far (bank, CCs, delta, southwest, AAA) my voided license, new license, and marriage certificate have been the most they've needed.  I went to the bank in person but everyone else I emailed them a pdf scan of the documents if they needed them.
