But fuck Facebook, I was on there a few min before the show started, and one of the "sponsored" ads was an article on usa.com and the headline said "Greys kills off major character" fuck you usatoday and facebook for ruining it for me! I feel like there should be some law where you can't talk about a show until like 2 days after it airs.

At literally 9:01pm last night, a girl I went to HS with posted on Facebook a picture of Patrick Dempsey in his Grey's costume with the caption "Nooo Derek! I can't believe they killed him off!!" And there were no likes and about 18 comments all from other people like "wtf I haven't even got home from work yet I was going to watch it tonight..." "thanks for the spoiler alert..." etc. And the original poster responded to all the comments saying "well I'm a true fan unlike some people. Only true fans watch their favorite shows in real time" LOL WTF. I don't even watch the show but wanted to punch her.
We have a friend who always is spoiling Game of Thrones on Facebook. Drives us nuts. If we aren't watching it in real time we tell him to please please not text us or post on Facebook that night.
Honest question, but does anyone actually watch TV shows** in real time anymore? That's why DVRs were invented.

    **Not including sports in this.
Why wouldn't you watch it real time if you are available to?

My answer is sometimes.  If I'm home, then yes.  If I'm not, it's on DVR.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I don't because I hate all the commercials.  The best case scenario is we watch slightly delayed and sometimes we don't watch until the next day.

  • I straight up ugly cried. I can't believe it. The whole time I was thinking "this isn't real. It's a dream. This isn't real." BUT IT'S REAL.

Honestly, I don't believe Shonda that Patrick Dempsey was a "diva." It seems to me that every time she has a conflict with someone, suddenly that actor is "causing problems" on set, so she kills them off. Everything I have ever heard about Patrick Dempsey has been nothing but good - but Shonda has had problems with multiple actors on her shows. So, I wonder.

  • I freaking lost it when George died.

A few days ago I saw an article about how Patrick Demsey was considering leaving Grey's.  This doesn't surprise me at all now.  I really think the show has run it's course.  Christina was my favorite character, and she's gone, so I didn't care to watch it any more.  Meredith and Derek were always two seconds from making me want to strangle the both of them for acting so dumb.

And honestly, how much can go wrong at that hospital?  It's supposed to be a trauma center with all of these world class doctors, but damn, I would never go there.  It's like a magnet for death.

I do. Not everyone has a DVR, ya know. I think if you want to avoid spoilers after a show has aired, the onus is on you to avoid them, not on everyone else to avoid talking about them until they know you've seen it. Hell, I've seen people complain about Mad Men spoilers YEARS after the season aired, because "they should know people might be watching on Netflix." Uh no man, not my responsibility.

  • She also removes them, more or less, from the show for a whole season to minimize the effect it will have on all the subplots. The only person Derek interacted with on the show this year was Meredith, via phone calls mostly.

I watch everything live. When I got rid of my cable, I also get rid of my dvr. I am much happier without it. When I had it, I had so many shows saved that it was a chore to watch them all. Now, if I miss a show, I am oh well. It's much more freeing. I do have Netflix and Hulu so I do watch shows on there though.

I haven't seen this season yet, so maybe I'm missing something, but why couldn't that have just continued and then he could have left the show, the premise being that he's away, kind of like Christina?

If it's true she was having problems with him on set, well the answer isn't just to kill off every actor you don't like! That's incredibly immature and makes for a bad writer IMO. She has an entire fandom and the integrity of the character to answer to as well, so hopefully her reasoning for killing him off was more than that pettiness.

I love my DVR and you will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands. But what cracks me up is when people bitch about spoilers for shows/movies that are either true stories or from books that are 1 million years old. A friend gave me a hard time for revealing that Chris Kyle dies in American Sniper, and that basically everyone dies in A Normal Heart. Um, do you watch the news? Or pay attention to history?

I don't watch Game of Thrones- but same thing, don't get pissy about a TV show based on a book series.....

Even though I didn't watch last night & haven't been keeping up, I cannot believe she killed him. First McSteamy, now McDreamy...what is she Mcthinking???

Oh I would kill for a DVR. And may, if H tries to set up the cable at the new house without one. I've been harping on him to add one for the last year and a half since I moved in, but he hasn't, and my name isn't on the account so I can't do it myself. He's gonna have a very cranky wife on maternity leave if we don't have a DVR. I can't wait to have my Uverse back!!

Well, to be fair, Game of Thrones is about to run out of books and then there will be spoilers for later books before the books are even out. So. There is that.

Personally, I'm of the camp of "if you don't want to be spoiled, stay away from the spoilers". I mean, the guy who got the 6th HP book at midnight, got in his car, read the last few pages, and drove around the bookstore parking lot screaming "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!!!!" That dude is an asshole. But other than malicious spoiling like that, nope. It's on me not to find them.

@climbingwife - West Coasters clearly are not true fans. They don't have the East Coast channels to watch them when TRUE FANS do.

After watching all Joss Whedon shows, the killing off major characters is less shocking.

So, I have never in my life watched this show, and now I think I know why hahahaha. I totally gagged a little when I read this. Is this a real thing from this show?

I'm still watching Greys Anatomy, but the last two years haven't been so great. Tonight's show made me cry. I like Meredith and Derek together. Who's left? Meredith's new sister doesn't appeal to me, neither does Derek's sister - can't even think of their names. Owen is boring. YAWN!

IMO, the most gut wrenching episode was the one where they killed George O'Malley off. OMG. How could Shonda do that? I bawled my eyes out over that elevator scene.

I cried the most when George died and when Denny died. Ugh. So sad.
    Denny was the worst.
Omg I lost my shit when Denny died.

Not to sound like a cold- hearted bitch, but I was thrilled when Denny died. I didn't think it was believable and I thought the story dragged.

And I could not roll my eyes hard enough when Denny came back "to help" Izzie

I think the show has gotten terrible but I still watch every week, so they must be doing something right.

  • I get into the spoiler debate a lot.  I have one close friend who HATES them, and I do try to respect that.  However, we also don't have a lot of overlap in our taste in TV, books, and movies, so it's really not that hard.  But if you don't want to be spoiled, then don't go to places where it's likely to happen if you care that deeply about it or make an effort to watch it sooner.

I've also read articles that a couple of studies have been done showing that spoilers really don't ruin the enjoyment for people.  I know that's true for me.  I actually like spoilers.  1) Even if I know this plot point, I still get enjoyment out of seeing how the story evolved to get to that point, and 2) it helps me decide if it's even worth my time to watch.  I don't need things to be a surprise to enjoy them.

Re: Grey's - without knowing the whole story, I'm likely to cut some slack about killing him off.  Maybe he asked for it?  He's been rumored to want out for awhile and still had a year left - maybe he wanted to cut ties completely instead of being roped into doing cameos for the next season?  Of course, I suppose they could make him a ghost that haunts Meredith next season to fulfill his contract.  And he is getting divorced - maybe he wanted time to focus on his personal life or just wants a change?  Maybe this will set up a half-way decent story line so I don 't have to watch episodes of Meredith guilting her friends into changing shifts with her like it's damned emergency when really she just wants to have sex with her husband.

However, I hate shows who kill off too many cast members.   I know it's Hollywood, but I'm always like "damn, what an unlucky place to live, work, whatever".

I'm talking about dramas, not crime shows.
I know it's a TV show and not real life, but if all of my (young! mostly healthy!) co-workers were dropping like flies I'd be outta there. That place has bad juju.

  • I just watched this episode.  I firmly believe my H has no soul. Lol.  I was reduced to a lake of tears; H is just staring at me, while I am bawling my eyes out. Jerk! Lol.
The show has gotten pretty lame, especially the previous episode. This last episode, it was as good as the episodes from the beginning.  It was a bunch of doctors behaving as doctors (not like they are some teenage kids acting unprofessionally.)  I think Shonda Rimes did an amazing job capturing what it must be like to say goodbye to your husband. I imagined myself in that devastating position, and it just broke my heart, Pretty sure H thought I got that upset over a tv show, but I really got that upset at the thought of ever losing him. That's why that episode was so astounding. I could picture it happening to anybody. It made the show more believable, (a problem the show has struggled with), and I empathized with Meredith's character.  Now, they need more hot doctors. Seriously.  Jackson is sexy, and Alex is cute, but Owen... nope.  I LOVE me some ginger women, ginger men... nope.

Um... my husband got mad at me for telling him almost everyone dies in the movie Titanic (10 years after the movie aired). It was hilarious.  Uh.... How do you not know how that went down? That's not just saying how that movie went down, but how history went down. He got over it when his friends and family chimed in and made fun of him. I still tease him about that, to this day!

No kidding.  And if I was Meredith's new sister, I'd totally be running... everyone around Mer dies.  During course of the show she's lost both parents, her sister, and now husband... I would not want to be her only remaining relative.

  • I am placing money on Meredith's sister getting Alzheimer's.
  • Wait how the hell many sisters is Meredith up to now? Is that like their backlog of spare characters? Every time they kill off too many people, they make up a new sibling.

She has three sisters (technically two since Lexie died). Two from Thatcher's second marriage (Lexie and some other one who was shown in season 2 or 3) as well as Maggie who is Richard and Ellis' child.

    SO FAR.

Next season: Meredith is ready to date again, but discovers her latest romantic fling is her long lost half brother.
That could totally happen. Who knows how many half siblings she has in the world. Hell she could have an older (non-half) sibling that she wasn't told about.

    Here's my prediction:

A judge rules that their wedding vows on a Post-It were not legally binding and since Derek had never updated his will his estate goes to his ex wife.

    The importance of a legal ceremony, y'all. . .

When they decided to adopt Zola they ditched Callie and Arizon's wedding to go to the court house and officially get married so they could check someting off the adoption to do list.

  • So now FI has been right twice that clicking on this and finding out Derek died was a bad idea. I was about 10 episodes behind and have stayed up all night trying to catch up. I have cried over shit that was in no way tear worthy, but totally is since I know he's dying in a few hours.

FI actually woke up in the middle of the night and watched a handful of episodes with me. He went back to bed happy when he realized my prediction from a few months ago about a double penis decapitation episode actually happened.
