In 10th grade you could only go to prom if you were invited by an upperclassman. So I had a prom party at my house instead. It was way more fun than actual prom. I'm in the red dress. The guy who looks like he is 12 was my boyfriend (who later became too cool to talk to me).

At our school, you could only go to prom if you were invited by a guy. I went to an all girl's high school. I thought that was so messed up. I couldn't bring my BFF either (because, lessssbiannnnssss!!!11!!!!). It honestly still angers me.
I know I don't really know what yall look like now, but everyone looks like such babies in their pictures! I'm sitting here thinking, you aren't old enough for prom!!! Guess that makes me old.
We had after-prom parties too. One was at this massive rec center with rock climbing and sumo wrestling (you know, with the giant padded suits).
It kept people out of trouble-- those that chose to go. It was pretty fun but I'm an early bird who likes to sleep. Lots of us were just passed out in the lobby, actually.
Our proms are also like weddings in that they include dinner. I remember having a lot of fun at both junior and senior prom, although my boyfriend and I got into some fight that I don't even remember now, at the after party.
Jessica McClintock ball gowns were ALL the rage, as were the two-piece dresses (crop top with ball skirt).
Man... fun times.
I remember going to the Jessica McClintock store at Woodfield Mall thinking it was the coolest place ever! I don't know if its even open still.

I apparently still look exactly the same. Seeing as I was 17 then, and at 28 I still get id'd in a province where the drinking age is 18.
Junior prom my best guy friend was about to move to another state. He went to a different school, and our proms were on the same night, so I agreed to go to his and miss mine. It was a really fun time.
Senior year I went to three proms (I am soooooooo popular!). I wore the blue dress to two and re-wore my junior prom dress to one. For some reason I can't find pics of one, they must have never made it on Facebook (so they're probably lost forever).
The senior prom at my school was on my birthday. There was an actual rule that you weren't allowed to wear a tiara or crown because it took away from the prom king and queen. I said eff that, it is my birthday, and I will wear a tiara if I want. I did, and no one stopped me/made me take it off.
I wore this exact dress my junior prom in 2004! Except I think it was in a lavender color. No photos for me, they are all at my mom and dad's house. Everything was pre-facebook and has never been scanned so oh well.
My high school had prom as a dance event only usually at a hotel ballroom, so we'd go out as groups for a fancy dinner first and then go to the dance part later. Only upperclassmen were allowed to attend unless an upperclassman invited you/purchased a ticket for you. So I went my sophomore and junior year. Spring of senior year I was so disaffected with everything (cue the worst case of senioritis ever) that I didn't go. I did go to homecoming all four years. I liked my homecoming dresses sooo much more than my prom dresses. I definitely made better fashion choices in those cases.
I'm pretty sure my high school never offered a formal after prom type of event. We always just went to a friends house (with friendly parents who left us alone in the basement) afterwards to make out with our SO's and watch movies and eat popcorn all night.
I never went to prom. None of my friends did. I remember what we were doing instead of prom (things that made our parents wish we went to prom instead). DH never went to any of his proms but was a date to a friend's when he was in college. I saw a picture once and it was not so good.
Because we're sharing ginger pictures, the first is my sister and me. The second is my niece who, ironically, everyone says looks more like me than my sister.

My prom story is pretty sad...I missed my junior prom because I went to Germany my junior year on an exchange program (nerd alert!). So when I got back everyone had moved on with their lives without me. My BFFs were no longer friends with each other, my BF (we did the sensible thing and broke up when I left for Germany) had gotten cool over night and would no longer speak to me...I basically had no friends/life senior year. I did become close with this gay guy, and I asked him to prom. He said yes, but then he backed out to go with ANOTHER GIRL! So I wound up asking this Sophmore I barely knew. He was sweet (and very cute), but we had nothing to talk about. Many girls were jealous, though, because he was very shy and therefore had this mysterious reputation.
I too am a nerd who studied about junior year of high school (in Spain). I broke up with my BF before I left as well, though he didn't seem to get it (he sent me a new mix CD every week for the first two months...). I feel your pain on the HS friends all sucking upon return. I couldn't wait to get out of HS by the end of senior year!
I went to my senior prom with a guy friend from a different town (small, rural school districts). We agreed we'd each take each other, so that we both had a date. My prom was two weeks before his. The week in between, he told me that he would rather go stag to his than bring me - his reason? He said it was because he how much hard I tried to make sure he had fun at my prom, and he didn't want to have to do that at his. Yeah. That went over gangbusters.
Big shout outs to my date, Ron Weasley (seriously my dad would do a really bad Snape imitation and call him Weasley), the sun for blowing my paleness out like goddamn, and my mom for putting me on a crash diet for three weeks that succeeded only in making me bloat!
This was our 9th grade formal, so 2000. I'm front row center and I still own that dress. My weight loss goal is to fit back into it. It was amazing, silver slip with a lace overlay.
Here was 10th grade prom. I had my dress made for me and I got to design it. I thought I was the shit. It was two pieces with the top having an open corset back. I'm in the light blue behind my friend in the black dress.
And finally, Senior prom. I don't have any pics of Jr. prom since I was living in a different state. I'm in the red in the middle.
Close-up on the hair because I thought red hair was stupid (I was the stupid one) so I dyed it brown from senior year through most of college. But glitter, funky hair, and curls were the shit in 2003 so here goes:
Junior year DH and I were just friends at the time. He was literally one of my best friends. I had a boyfriend I was going to prom with, but we broke up. Leaving school one day I walked up to DH, and said, "Hey, Jay! Are you going to prom with anyone?" He said no, and I responded, "Well now you are because you're taking me." The rest is history. I also wokeup the morning of prom with two, TWO, cold sores and almost refused to go.
Senior year I had bought my dress in February probably. Prom was in May. Between February and May, my almost non-existent boobs decided to grow AND I was on my period at prom (making my boobs bigger), so I was literally spilling out all over the place.
Just at these prom-tastic group pictures
Oh, DH in his white tux! LOL
OH I found one of our junior prom too! DH in a white tux then also.
Wow. Some of those dresses!
Oh I know! This was 2008 and 2009 when the brighter the better and the more beaded or poofy, the better too!
Looking back, I wish I was like you and went more timeless. I thought I looked hot though! LOL
Yes! I also went to prom in 2008 and 2009 and one dress was very poofy with a little beading and the next dress was almost all beaded and very bright! Since I want to play too, here are some pictures:
Junior Prom 2008: I'm the one in the pink poofy dress. My boyfriend at the time (not FI) didn't like to smile for pictures. The others were just all friends who paired off for pictures, and the two girls and I are still close. I plan to ask them to be in my bridal party. Also story time: I went to a fancy hair salon to get my hair done that morning, and the stylist kept walking away from me. He curled two small pieces of my hair and put the flower in, and let me sit there for 2 hours before coming back to tell me he was finished. I had asked for half up half down. My hair was a mess and my friends and I tried to salvage it as best we could before the limo arrived, but the curls just fell out. ETA: Also because we were trying to fix my hair, I had zero time to do my makeup. I felt like a mess the entire night.
Senior Prom 2009: I'm the one in blue all the way to the left. We were all single at the time and just paired off as friends for pictures. I went to different hair salon this time too.
Bonus picture because it's my favorite one: "Let's take pictures on the playground!"
So I couldn't find the pictures of my date with his so cool Airwalks, but I did find one of my bff and I ( I am in the black dress) getting ready for prom.
And as a special treat, here is a picture of me (in the middle black dress) at my sophomore formal.
Omg! I've loved this thread! I wish I had a prom picture to share but I skipped junior prom to go to a Slipknot concert. It was fun but I cracked a couple of ribs in the mosh pit. I graduated early so there was no senior prom. Maybe I can find a pic from the concert. You would get a kick out of my crazy hair, piercings, and insane clothes.
Skinny baby Lolo circa 2001. I loved this dress so much. Was shocked my dad let me out of the house with that strappy back (of course, the only picture I have of it is with my mouth hanging open like an ape, lol)
ETA oh yeah and I made my parents drive me to New Jersey to go to prom with that boy. Because reasons and teenage emotions. (Long story)
Some of you are only babies, it makes me feel old. Prom in 2008? I was working for the same company I'm working for now in 2008.
Here is my junior prom picture. This is my HS boyfriend who I dated for 7 years, unfortunately.
I went to 4 proms, and some had dinner some didn't. Junior proms we didn't go out to eat first. Senior proms we did.
Yes! I can't help but feeling old with some of these prom years! Some of you guys have "normal" pictures that could've been taken yesterday.....there's no dating or aging of the photos yet.
I don't have any photos (didn't go to prom!), but our class years were identifiable by teased, permed, BIG hair.
I interrupt these adorable pictures to bring you a 2015 prom update.
No kidding, I just found this out.
Apparently, at Moose's school, there's a school dance policy.
If they see you grinding or giving lap dances (ohmygod, this happens) they take you off the dance floor, give you a mug shot card to hold, take your picture, and send it to your parents, so they know.
Often referred to as Twerk jail. By the kids, not the teachers

The paralells are uncanny! That sucks and that guy sounds like a total douche.
Re: S/O Prom pics
Aw man. That is horrible!
So yea, I'm still not old enough for prom...;)

I'm the fuck out.

First was Homecoming (2002-2003)
Second/third pic - Sweethearts dance, don't remember where I got my hair done but holy hell those loops (and it wasn't just me!)
Last one was my senior prom (blue dress). Looking back I am surprised I got away with that cleavage.. And I wish I was still that tiny!
Overall my dress choices weren't the worst, surprisingly!
