No oreos for this kid..

To a certain degree, I can understand that a school needs to intervene.   If the kid is eating nothing but junk food for the entire meal then that's a problem.

And in some private schools there are requirements that parents need to adhere to (no peanut butter for example) but you agree to the stipulations of a private school when you decide to send your child there.

In this case with the Oreos, it's vigilante nutrition gone overboard.

I was that sad, sad child whose mother packed her one lone Oreo in her lunch bag. I believe I successfully convinced her that a solitary Oreo is, in fact, embarrassing.

But we were rarely allowed more than 2 at a time. The usual mantra in my house was "if you aren't hungry for an apple, you aren't really hungry."

    I WAS SO DEPRIVED.

Just kidding. Despite what I'm recounting here, my overarching memories of childhood are filled with so much candy and delight that the landscape I envision is basically Willy Wonka's chocolate factory interspersed with lawn games.

I guess growing up for me two cookies was the normal dessert serving size so four seemed like a lot.  I asked my husband and he said two cookies was also the standard for his house.  But I just looked up the nutrition facts for Oreos and it turns out they are less calories/sugar than I would have guessed.  Just out of curiosity, what was the norm for y'all?

Money was tight when I was a kid so we didn't have lots of cookies in the house. But the food that was there wasn't restricted.

The concept of always having a desert after a meal is foreign to me. It was nice when it happened but if it was between bread and oreos bread one and we had no sweet stuff that week.

We had popsicles for dessert. The sugar free ones, not the good tasting ones. I wish we could have had cookies for dessert.

3 sounds about right to me, but I have no actual clue.

We didn't do dessert in my house unless it was a special occasion/ holiday.  We basically lived sugar free once my mom got her diagnosis when I was 5.  And then it got worse when I had my issues diagnosed two years later.  It also helped that candy and stuff was off limits once I started going to the orthodontist in first grade and continued going to 11th.

Moderation was the name of the game in my house, but it was a lot easier when there just wasn't that stuff in the house.  We could eat all the fruits and veggies wanted, no questions asked, and we ran outside and played sports.  I grew up eating carbs though.  Carbs and protein and the natural sugars you get in fruits and certain veggies were considered more important than sugary treats.

When I was a kid kid, there were sweets in the house regularly. Not all the time, and certainly not every night, but it was not unlikely to find an oreo or a Little Debbie something-or-other in the house 5 days out of 7.

My dad lost his job when I was almost thirteen, though, so sweet stuff pretty well disappeared after that, except as a special treat.

I was given 4 cookies in my lunch every day and my family would eat ice cream almost every night out of our regular bowels that we used for cereal, soup, etc.  And I turned out just fine as did my sister.

I don't care if a kid brings in a whole sleeve of cookies every day the school should have zero say in what can and cannot be packed in a child's lunch by the parent.  Period.
I think I'll skip dessert at Maggie's house, thanks. ;)
Hahahaha!!  Oops.  I blame that on it being Monday.

You gotta use the milk to swish the crumbs out. ;)

Okay, new poll: are you a dunker, a twister, or some unholy alternative?

Oh, okay. That makes more sense to me. Maybe it's just because it's Monday but I could not figure out how you were getting Oreos some how wedged between your teeth.

I'm a dunker. The whole cookie, too. I do not twist one half off because then one side has the cream and one side is naked.

I twist and eat the cream out of the middle (I do this for all the cookies that I am eating).  Then when all the cream is gone I split each cookie in half and then dunk one piece at a time.

It MIGHT be because I generally don't like cookies/cake. When it comes to sweets I am an ice cream and candy kinda gal for the most part. There are some exceptions, but Oreos are not one of them.

FSS makes fun of how I eat Oreos. I only buy double stuffed unless I buy a mini package from the liquor store for an immediate craving. I squish the Oreo together so the extra creme oozes out, lick that off, then basically have a normal Oreo that I drown in milk.

He points out I could just buy normal Oreos, but then I wouldn't get extra creme to eat by itself :(

I just bite them, and I don't like milk.

I'm another Oreo hater.  I just never found them very good.  But I do like the Golden ones.  Rumour is that Girl Guide cookies (originally made by Mr. Christie) changed their brand to Dare or something, and Mr. Christie decided to make the vanilla GG cookies here into Golden Oreos.  Still not quite as good as vanilla GG cookies (though the new brand is not as good), but they'll do

That baby is the worst thing ever in that if he made that face at me I would immediately cave and give him whatever it was he wanted.

Now my sister is buying me Oreos when she goes in the store. Thankssssss knotties. I withstood it so long as it was hypothetical discussion. Pretty much the MINUTE we made it real I needed them.
