Cheese

I'm one of those people who orders a salad, eats all the cheese, and then sadly picks at the remainder of the salad. Right now I'm enjoying blue cheese with a side of spinach, walnuts, and cranberries. Blue cheese is heaven, but I think I like goat cheese the best. The first time I tried goat cheese it was warm on french bread with a little bit of honey drizzled over it. Unreal. But sometimes I just want a slice block of cheddar with a glass of wine. Or cheddar with apple pie. Shredded pepperjack on fajitas. And American cheese on any sandwich. Grilled cheeses. Mac and cheeses. Cheese fries. And Parmesan cheese all over everything. It's my favorite food group, the food I don't ever want to live without.

Talk to me about cheese. Tell me a story, share a recipe, note your favorite variety. Be explicit.

Re: Cheese

  • Are you asking for cheese porn? :)

We have a soup and salad bar at work. There's a fixed price for soup. If it's the right kind of soup, I don't fill the cup all the way and load it up with cheese from the salad bar. Like all the cheese. Usually cheddar or mozzarella. It makes the soup sooooo good.

  • Well. There's this. I'm making it for Mother's Day.

Cheese was on my shit list for years because it seemed like all we ever had was sliced american cheese. And then I discovered real cheese. I haven't looked back. (Except for grilled cheese. I swear nothing makes a grilled cheese like Borden 2% slices. Dammit now I want grilled cheese.)

  • I love blue cheese on salads and on grilled chicken and cheese sandwiches. Omg, I'm so hungry.

I eat EXTRA sharp cheddar (my favorite is the Cabot extra sharp, i get it at Wal Mart) with just about everything. On a buttered biscuit and jelly. With crackers and a glass of wine. My favorite way to eat it is with popcorn that DH pops for me on the stove.

Sliced pears + goat cheese + honey + chopped walnuts = Cheese Gods Rejoice. (It's even better if you grill the pears.)

  • LOVE CHEESE.

Friends of ours have an annual party devoted to cheese and a fire in their backyard.   They creatively call it "cheese fire".

    And it's fantastic.

For lunch I had an aged English cheddar with caramelized onions on crackers. It was so good.
  • mmmm, cheese. I love cheese.

    Now I want cheese.

  • I shouldn't have come in here. I now need to overdose on cheese. I"m so hungry.
  • I've been eating cheese for lunch all week.  But I also tried on my dress this week, and my ass said I need to lay off the cheese for 10 days, so today I was good and had grilled chicken with my cookies and coke.

I love cheese though; I actually was worried that I had too much on my wedding menu at first.  3 of our 5 apps include cheese: fried mac and cheese bites with buffalo creme dipping sauce, pimento cheese stuffed cucumber cups, and brie pecan tartlets with peach preserves.  The main dinner stations are decidedly less cheesy.

  • I really enjoy making my own chevre. I like to put it on crackers with a sliced strawberry and a drizzle of balsamic.

My all-time favorite is baked brie with either crusty bread or sliced apples to dip in it.

Also high on the list is goat cheese and extra sharp cheddar (Kerrygold Reserve is the best).

This sounds amazing. You and @louxnoelle both have drool worthy app menus.

  • I love it all. Lately I've been doing sandwiches on a nice fresh sub roll with peppered turkey breast, fresh sliced mozzarella, and a little pesto. I often make quesadillas & pizzas with goat cheese. I love brie on crackers. So yea, add those to the standard American, shredded taco blend, and shredded parm and my fridge has about 6 different cheeses at all times.

I'll be watching for my invite.

OH GUYS I FORGOT I HAD FRIED BRIE WEEKEND BEFORE LAST. It was FANTASTIC. I want it again NOW. It had little crostini things and a raspberry pepper jelly and it was the best thing I've put in my mouth since ever oh my GOD so good. It was literally the only thing at the whole restaurant that I was like, "yes, this is allowed on my wedding menu" and it was the restaurant we were planning to use for our reception. It was absolutely cheesegasmic.

  • Mmmmmm baked brie with pear
  • my go-to party dish is baked brie. It takes, like, 2 minutes to prepare and everyone thinks it is fancy.

And then I usually spend the party sitting right next to it wolfing it down.

  • I just made a totally inappropriate moaning nose at work in response to this cheese thread. Cheese <3

I am telling you, none of you have lived until you have tried the Trader Joe's caramelized onion cheese.
  • My go-to party dish is a buffalo chicken cheese ball. Put some crackers, celery sticks, and baby carrots around it and the PEOPLE LOVE IT.

Oooh, I've had hot (as in cooked) buffalo chicken dip, but never in cold ball form (heh).  I'm supposed to bring spinach dip to a party next week, but I think I'm going to do this instead!  Yummm.

Love how the author is being paid to say "award winning cracker barrel cheese" about 12 times haha. But it does look super yummy.

Yeah it's super heavy on the advertising, but the dip still looks good.  I'll be a rebel and use Kraft or-gasp!- Publix brand cheese!

I've done both (buff chick dip served hot, and then the cold cheese ball) and I get more oo's and aa's over the cheese ball. Plus it attracts many if you provide crackers AND veggies.

Haha, it's a lot more meaty!  There will still be some cheddar chipotle mashed potatoes and a watermelon feta skewer.  :)

I'll have to get the mac and cheese recipe from my best friend. It's like heaven in a pan.

6 parts cheese, 1 part mac. No joke
