Chit Chat

Wedding chit chat!

Just ordered our invites today! Woo! Got the proofs yesterday, DF and I checked them out and also got the seal of approval from my mom and his. I love them. I'm so excited for them to be here. Based on our estimated delivery date, we'll have about three weeks between when we get there and when we need to send them. That should be enough time to address them all without giving ourselves a terrible hand cramp.

We also picked out suits and got DF measured on Monday. I'm kind of kicking myself for picking grey bridesmaids dresses. Next to the grey suits, the color just looks... off. I guess they have some blue-green undertones, because next to a grey suit, they just end up looking blue. But there aren't really other suit options that work. DF doesn't want something less traditional like tan or brown. I'm not a fan of navy. And our wedding is at 5pm, so black is a no-go too. Oh well. Annoying, but if this is the worst thing that happens at our wedding, we are very very lucky.

What wedding to-dos have you tackled lately? What's coming up for you?

Re: Wedding chit chat!

  • I'm sending out our invitations this week!

We have all kinds of smallish things left to do. Send readings to the officiant (once we pick them!), pick out rings (which I feel like we are behind on), finish music selection, find wedding party gifts, etc.

    It's coming up so fast!

  • I thought it was just a black tux you shouldn't wear?

    image

  • They can wear black before 5pm. The "rule" (which I think is victimless) is "no tuxes before 6pm".

And FWIW, my DH wanted to wear a tux. Our wedding was at 4:30. Fine, whatever. His clothes, his choice. And we didn't want the GMs to have to rent tuxes because it's a total waste of money so we just had them buy black suits they could keep. So Mother of God..... a tux before 6pm AND GMs not matching the groom. Call the police!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • I'm in the process of deciding on my wedding jewelry and I guess we need to decide on a ketubah design/artist soon if we want something done custom. Also we're talking to FIL's about the rehearsal dinner (they graciously offered to host) and are doing some honeymoon planning here and there.

But all the big stuff is booked! I'm very happy. Just little details here and there for the foreseeable future.

We don't have anything big to do till August. The last wedding things I've done were in March. The only thing right now is the paper crane folding.

Oh, I take that back we finalized the guest list. But that was just a few phone calls and such.

The men can wear black suits. I would have them do so if your fiancé likes the idea and if it's what you two want.

And I agree that "no tuxes before 6pm" is utterly ridiculous.

It's ok, he was only out of etiquette for an hour and a half. :)

FI has had like three requests during wedding planning, one of which was "I want the guys to wear black suits." Okie dokie buddy, you got it. (The other two were "I want cupcakes" and "It'd be nice if the invitations had leaves on them.") Fine and dandy. I have gray bridesmaid dresses too (Donna Morgan sterling) and am excited to see how the gray and black compare.

Right now I'm in a bit of a planning lull. It's nice and I'm enjoying it. I don't have much to do at the moment and things will start picking up in a few months.

Registering in a few weeks though.

We gave no fucks. H wanted black tuxes so that's what we got. Well, actually, they were those Vera Wang "tuxes" that supposedly aren't really tuxes. But dammit if he didn't look GOOD on our wedding day. :)

FI went back to our hometown this week and got some stuff done. He got the cake ordered and picked up the suits that we had ordered for him and the groomsmen and got 2 of the suits mailed to the out of town groomsmen. He also went and talked to an insurance place to get info on event insurance and timelines etc.

We have a rough draft of our ceremony which is super exciting.

Really we are just down to the nitty gritty stuff now. With 4 months to go we basically have left:

Hair trial/dress fitting - scheduled for July
    Pick up licenses/insurance - July
    Meet with officiant - July
Finish stocking up on booze - Have my mother on 'sale duty'. She already managed to get us our table wine for 6$ a bottle on sale from 14. So I'm leaving the hard liqour in her capable hands as well
Book hotel - I really should get on this asap
Finalize ceremony/vows - July when we meet with officiant
Stuff favour boxes - Closer to date as it is candy
day of timeline/seating chart - Closer to date obviously.

thats.... About it. I'm feeling really solid right now. I'm sure I've forgotten something but as long as we have an officiant/ceremony and food and booze for our guests then we have ourselves a wedding and everything else is fluff on top!

Guys, at our 5:30 pm wedding my H wore his tux (he already owns a tux and wears a tux tie with it and not a bow tie) and I told his groomsmen to just wear whatever dark suit they already owned. No one died!

  • Dude. If your FI wants black, get black. Unless CMGr is invited to your wedding, not a single person will know/care.

He doesn't want black. He keeps saying he doesn't care, except that he prefers a suit over a tux. We looked at like 12 suits and like 3 of them he was like "I hate that" so we nixed those. Everything else he was like "That's fine. That's fine. That's fine." He cares way less than I do.

FWIW, I don't think the black looks any better with the grey dresses, and I just think it looks so stuffy for an afternoon wedding. No offense to anyone who had them. It's just not my personal preference. And since DF didn't care one way or the other about black, I thought grey was a better option.

  • Finally got the last address and the invitations ordered! Ordered stickers for our popcorn boxes and for our hotel bags. Started buying some gifts for the bridal party. GOT MY DRESS!! I've actually been on a roll, I'm pretty stoked. Oh and FMIL just booked the venue for the rehearsal.

I'm in the same spot! Planning is kind of wrapping up. We need to address the invites once they get here, assemble the centerpieces, and sit down with our officiant to plan the ceremony. That's kind of it. I need to make an alterations appointment for my dress at some point. But there's really not much left to do at this point!

  • Oh gosh I'm just over 2 weeks out and so much is going on! It's finally really feeling REAL!

I've finalized a ton of things in the past week, which is good. Catering, bar, cake, flowers, rentals, hair/nails, and photography are all tucked!

Here's what's on my mind next:
    - final (hopefully) dress fitting is tomorrow
    - shoes, I have been putting off getting shoes because no one will see my feet and I really don't care
    - rsvp date on invites is this weekend, so next week I need to chase after a few outstanding rsvps
    - seating chart
    - DIY projects still in progress: favors, signs for ceremony, table numbers
    - finish my vows!

FI is working on finalizing our reception playlist and booking hotel rooms for the honeymoon.

If your dress is long enough that people won't see your feet... doesn't your dress have to be hemmed properly to allow for the heel height? Just curious.

  • Our wedding is in ten days, so we're just putting final touches on everything! Finishing up favors, welcome bags, etc... We have to deliver everything to the venue on Wednesday, so after that I can just focus on packing!
  • Holy shit you guys I just realized my wedding is in 4 months (9/12) and we've been engaged for over 3 months.  So uhhh yeah, we're getting engagement pictures done on June 9th, I booked that this week.  We weren't going to do any other than maybe having a friend do some shots but the photographer included a 30 minute session for free.  The hounds will be involved.

Umm lets see, I need to book a meeting w/ the caterer just to nail down stuff like # of waitstaff and timeframes.  Also need to do a meeting at the venue with my MOH (who is also acting as my wedding plannerish, her choice) to take some measurements and discuss layout since it's pretty much DIY.

Also need to meet with MOH, who has also assigned herself the task of making my invitations (she also did the STDs), so we can go over designs etc so she has plenty of time to make them.  I told her she did not have to, and I was happy to hire somebody etc, but she said this her gift to me, so that's nice.

I think the only real outstanding items is finding a DJ (have tasked FI with this and he's slacking, but I'm find with just having an ipod if we have to), and to find someone to do my hair and makeup.  Dress arrives in July.

Very good point, but I'll be wearing flats. I made that decision already. I just need to decide WHICH flats.

My friends did this and it was totally fine. DJs here aren't expensive so we just decided to go with one anyway so that our DOC wouldn't also have to emcee, but definitely not a huge deal either way.

After the nightmare I had last night about the DJ not showing up, I'm going to make an emergency backup playlist on my computer sometime in the next few weeks. I'll already have my computer at the venue because we're hoping to skype in my grandpa for the ceremony, and they have auxiliary hookups. I know the chances of our (very reputable) DJ not showing up are pretty slim, and one of DF's work friends is also a DJ so he would probably be a backup in a true emergency, but it won't hurt to be over-prepared.

OP, could you add a sash to the BM dresses to give them a pump of color like yellow or red or whatever? Maybe they would look less "eh" to you.

Twinsies!  (I just made myself barf a little saying that)

Yeah we ended up with this date because it was pretty much the last date available this year at the venue that wasn't in October (hunting season/might end up with a blizzard because it's Colorado season).  Wasn't quite thinking I'd plan a wedding in 7 months but well, we're gettin' er done.  I am SO thankful for my awesome MOH, I'd be screwed without her.

    oh god. twinsies....haha

We got engaged last march and wanted to get married Sept 2014, but as we are planning from a different province, we figured we shouldnt stress ourselves out by trying to plan it in 6 months.

We got all the big stuff out of the way last year so it's definitely nice to be smooth sailing right now.

Makes sense. I wore heels but changed into blue and white Tom's at our reception after our first dance. Best decision ever, my feet were really happy about it.

The dress actually comes with a sash, but the girls decided that they don't want to wear one (and I agree - it definitely looks better without). I'm not even sure why it comes with one, there's some kind of rouching/pleating on one side that's basically entirely covered up by the sash, and it covers a bunch of the buttons in the back.

Today I got an oil change for the road trip, and a fat quarter of cool fabric for FI's pocket square.

I keep debating whether I want to wear a bracelet or not, but that's hopefully all I have left to stress about now, haha. 6 days to go!
