NWR- we're getting a house!

Dh and I've been house hunting for several months. Found a good one, but I found serious problems with the title and the owner wanted waaay too much for the property and wouldn't budge. So we looked some more.

Found a 2 story, 2068 sq ft 3 bed 2.5 bath with 2 car garage asking 182k. We offered 177k on sunday, and they took it!! I'm frigging thrilled!!! Now for everything else in home buying hahah.

Other updates- my post of a few weeks ago where I was scared is now irrelevant, but dh and I are talking about moving the ttc time table up a bit.

Our apartment complex is currently the favorite hang out of a relatively permanent family of Canada geese. Guys, I have goslings outside! Three survived this year, and I got photos!! My princess cat wants to chase them but I won't let her out.

All the internet wine rum and margaritas on me!

  • I hate you for that house being so cheap (I know it's all relative with cost of living but still). Congrats- hope the inspection and everything goes well!

  • I also hate you for that house being so cheap (mine was 180000 ish with 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and 1150 sq ft) but I love your geese! Can't wait to see pictures of the place.

Congratulations!!! I'm not going to lie I hate you a little, FI and I can afford about 180k, but in this area that may buy the box a pre manufactured house comes in. We are a long ways off from buying.

  • Congratulations on finding a house! That is so exciting! We close on our new house on Tuesday, and I miss absolutely nothing about house hunting. Although the packing hasn't been particularly great either. Best wishes to you as you go through inspections and packing and all the other fun stuff!
  • OMG I want a house that big for that cheap. Congratulations on the offer acceptance! I'll cross my fingers that everything else goes smoothly and you get to move into your new house relatively soon!

Ugh. I'm jealous of you all and your house prices. 3 bed, 2 bath houses with 2000 sq ft are $300,000 here.

But congratulations on your house! We close on the 27th and we are so excited. :D

  • Wow great price! Congrats!

  • Exciting on all fronts! Except the geese. Protective momma geese TERRIFY me.

Which is why those photos are from the opposite side of my sliding glass door, with the zoom on
  • This is in Tampa, right? Good grief, I should never have left North Florida. It shames me a tad to admit out loud how much my house cost.

But yay for a good update!

    Congrats!

I'm also jealous of what you can get for that amount of money.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Congrats!!! SO exciting and that is a great bargain!!! Hope everything goes swell.

We put in a offer on a small 1-1 apartment with space for a small office in out same building for 65K with the owners paying about 2.3-3K. We are waiting to hear back!

  • good luck @janiv123 !

  • thanks @jenna8984 it will be a downsize from the rental we have but we will be saving up $200+ every month and the place will be ours. In 3 years when we move for residency we will rent it out to other med students.

  • Congrats! It sounds lovely!

Geese are such assholes and geese poop is awful.

  • Congrats!

But yay for a good update!

Technically it's riverview, closer to Brandon, but very close to the expressway that drops me at my office in 20 mins.

Dh and I are currently "fighting" over paint swatches.
  • We grew up on a lake and one time while waterskiing, a goose flew directly into my moms chest and knocked her off the skis! lol

  • Yay that's so exciting :)  And uh yeah, great price!  My house was way more than that and is smaller LOL

And yeah, geese freak me the hell out.  I used to live in Chicago across from North Pond and had a few follow me as I was walking through the park.  Felt like I should carry mace or something.

See if you can get those little sample cups of paint before you actually commit to a color. We chose a color for our office that is....fine....but not what we thought it would be. Not re-painting, but I wouldn't choose it again.

^^^this.  Paint can look so different in different lighting and times of day.  We even did this on the exterior of our house when we were building it.  The neighbors did not, and what they thought was beige ended up being pink looking most times of day.

You can even paint pieces of foam core board and carry it around the house, that way you aren't painting right on the wall, and you can test it in lots of different areas.  When I did home staging we did this, we had a whole box full of 8x10 boards in our usual neutral shades.  Some looked great in some houses, but pukey in others.

Yeah, a house that size around here with 2.5 bath and 2 car garage would be at least 400K depending on the town.

  • To be fair, we looked at a 3/2 2071 sq ft single story, where the owner was demanding 229k.

As much as we liked it, I uncovered major major problems with the title, and the owner had turned down offers close to but not at the amount he wanted. I had no desire to deal with a blowhard who had problems with the house, so we walked away and went for the house we got.

  • Lol that's awesome. There is a local little clam shack around here that has the best seafood and I'm doing the same thing as you- I'm like well the grocery store is 20 minutes away but it's only 5 minutes to Ronnie's!! lol

Just paint everything Benjamin Moore "Revere Pewter". It's the best neutral ever.

Although I just did Glidden "Alligator Pear" (a deep mossy green) in our dining room with some gloss white beadboard wainscoting and I am LOVING IT.

  • Forgot to mention!!!

I already calculated the important things. Not how long my drive to work is. Oh no. Our house is 8 mins from a full size LA Fitness (with pool), and 11 mins from Cheesecake Factory. Because Priorities!!!

This might not seem like a big deal to those in more urban areas. But Tallahassee doesn't have either of these things. Hell, Tallahasse's lucky it has more than one Starbucks.  Tallahassee is about to get a Red Robin, and that's making people excited.

So yeah. FUCKING PRIORITIES PEOPLE!! I fully intend for DH and I to spend the weekend after we close, before we move in, with bottles of water in the fridge, several bottles of wine, and lots of cheesecake as we go room to room planning shit and painting.

Its also 23 mins from Busch Gardens and Adventure Island, 47 mins from Clearwater beach, 13 mins from IKea, and 30 mins from my office.  That last one is irrelevant. I has priorities!
No kidding, I remember when the first one opened. It was like Disneyworld.

But that one by the Trader Joe's drives me bananas. The traffic backs up for blocks....
