DH feeds the staff at his club lunch and dinner 7 days a week this time of year.  Not in the off season though.

DH being chef eats anything he wants.   He claims he is "tasting" the food to make sure it's done right.  Yeah, okay, sure as he is stuffing his face with a lobster tail.

Since DH works 7 days a week and is gone for all lunches and 6 dinners (he has one dinner a week with me) our food bill is very low in the summer time.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

DH loves the chef at the club. We save a lot of money on food now that he is working there because he only has to get lunch on Mondays.

  • I work in Manhattan, so food is absurdly expensive. Add that to the fact that the options around my office aren't great, I bring my lunch about 99% of the time. It is a mix of leftovers, sandwiches, and bulk, crockpot meals I make on weekends (usually in the winter).

H works at Google, so their food options are endless and delicious (and free).

I tend to bring a yogurt, string cheese, some sort of snack (lately kettle corn) and a main dish of some sort. Today I woke up too late to pack a lunch so I went to the Thursday farmer's market on campus and got some sort of delicious pizza-y bread thing that was amazing and only 3 bucks.

  • I recently starting taking my lunch to work because where my office is (upper Manhattan) you cannot get lunch for less than 10$ a day. And usually its more like 12-13. Unless you eat dollar pizza.
I try and bring things that I can leave in the fridge and eat over a couple of days, like a packet of turkey and a box of flatbreads. I also bought an avocado tool that i keep in my desk drawer and eat avocados almost every day. And I just did a big Nuts.com order( right to my desk!) for healthy snacks so I'm not spending money ( or calories) at the vending machine.
It's hard though, especially when you want to get outside for a bit. I'm trying to find the right balance especially because while I'm not on a "wedding diet" I am trying to eat better and work out more to look my best, and eating my own food is the surest way to know I am eating clean.

  • It really depends for me. I live close to work so I try to go home but sometimes I feel rushed. I was doing really well bringing my lunch for a few months but then I fell off the wagon. We get lunch ordered in a lot (on the company) as well. And sometimes my mom calls and wants to meet and then she will take me to lunch which I can't complain about! When I order in myself or go pick something up I would say average is about $10 but that's usually Panera, Jersey Mike's, etc. I don't get McDonalds or anything like that.

  • We are a training office so any time people come in from out of town, we order lunch all week. People always want to get "Chicago" food so it's deep dish pizza, beef sandwiches, Portillos, etc. I was just talking to my coworker from KY who was here last week and she said she's lost 4 lbs since she went home. We stuff people.

  • I'm lucky as heck -- the place where I work has a dining room where they serve free lunch (that you can eat there or order to take back to your office) and there are a BAJILLION options.  And cookies.  Like...mega cookies.  Cookies for days.

  • I haven't gone to Costco in roughly 900 years so my cabinets and fridge are pretty much empty. I may have a protein shake and wait for FH to come home and have a nice dinner.
