Going Off Birth Control Pill

Re: Going Off Birth Control Pill

  • Yeah there's no real reason to not get an IUD before having kids other than it supposedly hurts more. I just took 2 Advil and called it a day. Went home and laid on the couch that evening. Worth it. My dr actually is involved in a program to decrease the number of teen pregnancies on the south side of chicago and they give IUDs out to all the girls she sees that want to prevent pregnancy bc it's the most foolproof option out there of BC. Plenty of research shows that and for me, a few hours of discomfort after insertion beats the hell out of an unplanned pregnancy.
Seriously! I mean if it's the fact it hurts more, I'm pretty sure having a baby hurts more than an IUD. I think if someone really wants an IUD and they haven't had children, than they need to shop around for a doctor that will do it.

Obviously this is easier for some people than others depending on what area you live in. (I live in Boston where there is a hospital in every neighborhood).
@huskypuppy14 I think it's more than this though honestly- if it were just a one-time pain issue fine, just suck it up and deal with it. But if it's a really tight fit to begin with, it's going to irritate the area surrounding it much more over time than if it's a more comfortable fit, making every single period extremely painful to the point that for some women it could be incapacitating.

I would endure any amount of pain for a day to not have to think about birth control again for 10 years, but I'm not going to suffer for 7 days out of every month for that pay off, you know? So generally I don't think it's a "bad" idea for doctors to have this policy. As someone mentioned though Skyla is a 3 year IUD specifically designed for women who haven't given birth so that's a good option to consider.
