Havent received a gift and it disappeared from my registry

An item that was bought off my registry was out of stock and I was sent a backorder email saying it would ship by July 10. Well it has disappeared from my purchased gifts from the registry. Since I got the notification I sent the Thank You card for the item even thought I hadn't received it.

I now am worried something happened and I don't know if I should contact the person.

Re: Havent received a gift and it disappeared from my registry

  • I'm confused.  The item is not set to be shipped till the 10th which is 4 days away.  So I wouldn't be expecting getting that gift until next week sometime.  If you are concerned I would contact the store where your registry is set up.  They may be able to give you some clarification.

I know the ship has sailed, but I wouldn't have sent a thank you note for a gift that I actually haven't received yet.

    I'm confused too.

BTW - do not sent out TY until you receive the gift.  It great you are trying to stay on top, but you are getting a little ahead of the cart here.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Based on what you're saying, it probably disappeared from your registry because it's been purchased, which makes sense.

Agree with PP that if it's not shipping until 7/10, you shouldn't worry about it now.  Chances are it will arrive a few days after the 10th.

It is appearing as if it was never bought and I haven't received any notifications from the store. I wasn't expecting it to have arrived but since it is messed up in the registry I got worried and noticed the fact that it hadn't arrived either so it took me by surprise that it is not showing up as bought.

  • I would contact the store first since it will make you look a tad foolish to have to go back to the gift-giver and say "Oops!  You know that thank you card I sent you for the thing I thought you bought me?  Well, it never showed up - can you fix it for me?".  It's possible that it just didn't get moved to correct section of the registry.  Or it's possible that the email was potentially correct at the time (they had planned to get stock in allowing it to be shipped by the 10th), but maybe the person decided to cancel the order for some reason if they weren't already charged (for example, amazon doesn't charge until it actually ships and you can cancel up until the point it does).  Or the company or their credit card company canceled it depending on how long it was taking.

If the store isn't able to pinpoint what happened to the order for any reason, I would probably still give it a few days after the 10th and then go back to the person.

LURKERS - this is why you should wait to send the thank you card until you actually have the gift in hand, not in anticipation of receiving a gift because you see it marked off on your registry.

Is it possible the gift giver returned the item?  I order some items from a registry for a shower and one of the items was on back order.   The items shipping date kept getting pushed back. I ended up canceling the order and buying something else that was in stock.

THIS. I was thinking the exact same thing. I've canceled an item before when I found out it was backordered. Registries don't always sync up the way they should, so going forward try to wait until you physically receive gifts and use the notifications as secondary reference instead.

How did you send a thank you for a gift you didn't receive? How did you know who it was from?
Macy's registry manager has a thank you note manager that tells you who it was from, plus I received the backorder email.

Since I didn't know if she knew it was backordered, it is an old lady and I don't think she has email, I decided to send her the note since the package would be shipped later on and I should get it eventually.

ETA: it seems the order was cancelled. I honestly dont remember if I specified in the TY that I got the notification but hadn't received it yet since it was backordered. Honestly, at the end of the day it is not a big deal, and it seems they were not charged anything for the order.
