I just tried to quote and respond to a post and got a red banner that stated my post was 3,xxx characters too long (which, it was not a long post to begin with and my reply had 1 sentence typed. I assume that number included every character in the post). It seems that if I tried to quote and then respond that error was going to pop up regardless. I was able to type a response without the quote and add it later in a edit but WTH happened.
