Re: We meet again, Monday.

  • Monday, Monday, Monday...

Well we got some much needed rain this morning and it is still sprinkling off and on.

FI and I went to a wedding on Saturday. It was really pretty, if not a little unusual but it fit the bride and groom well. The couple has been saying for 11 years that they are going to get married and it finally happened (this is a second wedding for both). It took place on the beach next to the lake here. The groom wore shorts and a button up shirt, the bridesmaid wore a white dress and the bride wore a black wedding dress. The officiate was a fellow bartender from the bar where the bride works. The bride, groom and officiate all took a shot at the beginning of the ceremony. It ended with, and I quote, "You may now kiss or spank the bride!" The whole ceremony took about 15 minutes. I turned and looked at FI and said, "Sorry ours won't be that quick."

FI is back in Vegas for more doctor appointments this week. I miss him already.

  • @aurorarose41 Yea luckily oil is the cheapest it's been in 6 years, so this winter won't be so bad for heating! See my best friend growing up had a wood stove in her basement and her bedroom was down there and I loved the smokey/ campfire smell. I'd go home and my clothes would smell like it for days and I couldn't get enough of it. But we probably will go with pellet just because it's so much easier to buy the pellets rather than H dealing with chopping and storing wood.

Why are you getting the new ring? It's very pretty

@jenna8984 ah okay. I wasn't sure if the smoke would bother you or not. Sounds like you would like that but I do agree that pellets are easier to get than chopping up wood.

My current setting has had a lot of issues with the prongs bending and the diamond moving in it. We actually took it to the jeweler on Saturday because the largest inclusion that was supposed to be hidden under a prong was visible (i.e. the diamond turned in the setting) and the diamond was crooked. On top of that, the bottom of the setting is really really thin, and I am concerned about the longevity of it. I think it might have gotten thinner since I have had it. See below (I don't know why it is posting such a large picture...sorry ETA: It refreshed and now it is what I was trying to share in the first place. Also you can see that the diamond is leaning toward the right in the prongs. We didn't bother getting it fixed since my new setting will be available in 3 weeks):

The last factor is that when FI and I first went ring shopping, I tried on a round with a cushion halo and absolutely loved it. FI told me that it was just trendy and I would probably not like it as much in a few years and that a solitaire was more classic. He also told me he didn't like halos, and wanted to propose with something that he liked too. So we went with a solitaire, thinking it would be more classic. And while it is beautiful, I have realized lately that it just isn't me.

He feels awful now knowing that he talked me out of what I really wanted and what fit my personality more, and he told me he wanted me to have a ring that I was proud to wear. So when we brought my ring in yet again to be fixed, we decided to ask what our options were for resetting it instead of repairing it again. Our jeweler gave us almost the full value of my current setting to put toward the new one, so we went for it.

Edit 2: Another reason that I left out is that the setting I ended up picking is a Tacori setting, which has a lifetime warranty through Tacori. My current ring only has a lifetime warranty through our local jeweler, and we have been discussing the possibility of moving out of San Diego recently, so I wouldn't be able to get my ring fixed for free if something happened to it. Now I will be able to no matter where we live.

Also, the new setting has a much thicker bottom:

  • Boo.  H and I had put in a request to foster a refugee child from the Middle East a couple weeks ago.  We got a response today and were denied because there don't have a program in our location.  :(
  • @cocobellaf - I'm sorry to hear that.  Have you guys always wanted to foster?
  • Hope you all had a happy Monday!

Friday I completed my first week at my new job. I love it! I'm a full time nanny again it's my calling. The little boy is gonna be 5 in February. He's hearing impaired so his speech is a little behind and I'm learning to understand him day by day. Anyway so Friday we snuggled as a little family in bed and caught up on recordings on the dvr.

Saturday we slept in and when I got up I called my grandfather to wish him a happy 88th birthday and he cried and said all he wanted for his birthday was me to come see him so I got in my car and drove and hour and half to him. We had a mini family birthday party for him with burgers, beer, cake, and gifts. He made a speech about how lucky he is and what a great life he's had and how blessed to have use all as he's getting close to the end. I got emotional. I want him at my wedding and to meet my babies but only God knows if he will be there for either. He's got really bad Parkinson's disease and heart problems. I ended the day with dinner at a nice Italian restaurant with my dad and stepmom. She chatted my head off with advice which was sweet cuz she's usually a monster haha

Sunday I got up early and did some shopping for this coming weekend. (My 30th birthday is Friday and we are going out of town to celebrate for 2 nights) Then I headed back home.

Today I worked all day and it was a blast and went by fast! I have to work thru Thursday and then birthday trip commence!!! Hehe im so excited!

We are going to San Diego for my birthday weekend. Nice dinner and comedy show Friday night for my birthday and probably some gambling as its at a casino... Then maybe sea world I'm looking at some stuff to do...

  • @minskat30 - Well, we had started adoption paperwork last year and then put it on hold while we TTC.  We talked about fostering a child refugee for a few weeks and then submitted the paperwork just to see if we could get a match... not to adopt, but to foster and sponsor a child here in the USA.
  • @cocobellaf - That would be an amazing opportunity to help out a child!
