When to Hire a Justice of the Peace?

Hi! We are getting married next August and thought we found the perfect justice of the peace to marry us. But, now she's being a bit unresponsive so we are having second doubts. I'm a little worried that we don't have a JP 10 months out from our wedding date. When did you book your officiate?

Um, I didn't even have a venue, DJ, photographer, etc 10 months out from our wedding so I think you will be fine finding another JOP in 10 months.

And I am thinking your current JOP isn't being super responsive because what exactly does she need to discuss with you 10 months before your wedding?

@Maggie0829, shouldn't she want to have us sign the contract? I think that's a reasonable request 10 months before the wedding. Every time I follow up, she says she'll send it, but its been weeks and still no contract. We're not asking her to be responsive about anything else at this point.

Have you put any money down?  

If you are not happy about how she has not responded to your multiple requests for a contract then find someone else.  I would tell her that if you do not receive a contract, which you have requested multiple times, by X day that you will have to move on and find a different JOP.

I think that's our plan. We're planning on starting to look for another JOP next week if we still don't have a contract. We haven't put any money down yet.

We didn't book our officiant until 3 or 4 months out. You have time.
