Seriously?

I realize this is a first world problem but...I just ordered pizza from Papa Johns. Large 3 topping. Opened it up...missing the pepperoni. How do you forget to put the pepperoni on a pizza?

What has made you wonder what the person on the other end of an interaction is thinking?

Re: Seriously?

  • So many things. As I mentioned previously, people spelling my name wrong when responding to an email that has my name in it makes me scratch my head and also irritates the living daylights out of me. It happens far too often.

This happens to me all the time. (even on here sometimes)

The strangest thing is how often when I say "Lynda.... with a 'Y' not an 'I'"  it ends up being Lydia.

WTF?  I just said "with a 'y' not an 'i'"  I didn't say "dropped an 'n' and added an extra 'i'".

I'm guilty of doing it once, sorry. :(

  • I've been wanting Papa John's forever, probably just because I want to dip in garlic sauce. H thinks Papa John's is gross, mostly because they used to eat it all.the.time in college and he doesn't want to think about it nearly 20 years later. One of these days I'm just going to get it and he can eat cereal for dinner or whatever.
  • I work in insurance and have to call carriers regularly. You can tell that the call center people have to say your name at the beginning and end of every conversation. Probably at least 75% of the time, they get my name wrong the second time. They're like "Hi Mark, how can I help you?" and then "Thanks, Mike, have a great day!".

Every time. My name isn't that weird (not weird at all, really) but it gets changed to a slightly similar name all the time.

  • I get frustrated at work when I answer my phone ("Hi, this is Maggie") and the person on the other end asks "Hi, is Maggie there?"  Um, did you not just hear me say "Hi, this is Maggie?"
I answered my phone at work and like I always i say, "Community Center. This is Emma." And this one time a lady decided to call me Debra 5 times throughout the call even after I corrected her.

How about excessive thank-yous from call center people?
"Thanks for calling, Mark! Thanks for using our company, Mark! Thanks for telling me how to spell your name, Mark! Thanks for telling me about your problem, Mark! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to solve your problem, Mark! Thanks for letting me know I resolved your problem, Mark, and thanks again for using our company, Mark!"

I swear I had that experience with a certain cell phone company just recently. That poor representative being forced into a thank-you script....

LOL I love those poor people. They're so funny. I have one carrier who answers the phone "Hi, this is Mark in new business. How can I make your day better?". SO cheesy.

My response would be "well you could send me a million dollars."

  • I worked at a hotel reservation call center when I was younger. They wanted us to say peoples names at least 3 times during a phone call. I couldn't do it, especially first names. It feels too familiar to me, it bothers me to hear my own name when talking to customer service reps. I get irrationally irritated.

And I won't order Papa John's b/c papa john is an asshat who treats his employees like crap. Remember his reaction to having to give his employees healthcare? I feel bad sometimes though b/c FI loves that garlic sauce.

I feel like I've spent my entire life saying, Kristina with a "K' and an "a".  Everybody wants to make me Christine.

@maggie0829 - this happens to me when I answer my manager's phone line. "Good morning, John Doe's office, this is Kristina.  Oh hi, I was hoping to reaching John Doe's office?"  Really?

last year I had to do this special call and take calls from some Medicare folks about a letter we sent. I'd say "Care Line this is KV" and they'd go yes Caroline, I got this letter.  I never corrected anyone because I figured if someone was mad and complained they would blame it on a person who doesn't exist!

My boss's name is Kristine.  Yet we get so many calls calling her Kristin, or a bunch of other variations on her name.  It's so strange.

  • I'm terrible at correcting people when they say my name wrong. My name is fairly common, but I use a less common pronunciation for the same spelling. It's sort of weird but it's how my family has always done it. Twice in the last week people I've worked with for awhile have asked how I pronounce my name and apologized for doing it wrong. Sorry! I stopped correcting people in high school because it's just a lot of work and I feel rude when I do. And a ton of people would say it right once and then forget and I'd get weird variations because all they remember is it's "not normal".

I have 2 nieces who have unusual pronunciations of their names.  The bad part is I have friends who spell their names the exact same way, but have the standard pronunciations of those same names.

Every time I'm about to say any of their names I have to stop, pause and make sure I'm using the correct pronunciation.

  • @MrsMack10612 I have that same issue- "What's your name?" "Kristina-with-a-K" It's just second nature even though it's annoying sometimes.

I get irrationally angry when people spell my name wrong and am so thrilled when people spell it correctly. I once had someone look at the spelling and ask, with the utmost attitude, "Why did your parents spell it that way?" I just looked at him and said because it's the right way to spell it haha

  • OK, my first name is Ryan.. Yes I am a woman. I was put on boys soccer teams, first day moving in to the dorms in college was interesting, and my last job my health benefits had me down as a male and questioned my OBGYN appointment..... my mother would write my girly middle name on EVERY THING so my name would immediately be come a hill billy double name.. so I hate it when people call me that

Also when people call me and then say "Oh I am sorry I was expecting a guy..." Wait it makes a difference?? you're calling me.. I have had people call me to set up interviews and say that to me, like I shouldn't be offended.. I usually take it in stride and say something like "yea, I get that a lot"

If I am in person introducing myself I have to say "Yes Ryan, like R. Y. A. N., not RIAN that is how you misspell rain"

I worked for a call center for almost two years, and we had to do this. There were metrics used to measure our performance based on how often we said/did certain things. If a call is longer than a few seconds, you have to say "thank you" at least 4 times, you have to spell out each name no matter how easy ("Mary Smith, is that m-a-r-y s-m-i-t-h?"), have to say the caller's name at least twice, have to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" (no "hi" "bye" or "buh-bye" allowed). The rules were ridiculous.

I was basically raised on Little Caeser's pizza, because it's cheap.  DH is not a fan of Little Caesar's because he was raised on "real" pizza.  In my opinion, Little Caesar's pizza is okay, especially for the price, but they have THE BEST cheesy bread.  I have had times where I stop in there just to get cheesy bread and tell DH that he's on his own for dinner.  I just don't care, because it's that good.

  • I hear Lara, Laura, Lora, Lori, Laurie, Laura, Loren, Lauren. I was born in 1989 so I always had friends with those names. I just assumed people meant me and it was bad if I let it slide for too long before correcting someone. I still respond to wrong first names more than my new last name- and I'm a teacher!

I've loved the name Ryan for a girl since I was in HS and knew a girl with the name. I've always wondered if there would be an issue like that, though it seems like so many names these days can be male or female so it is bound to happen I guess.
  • Definitely our dispatch center; they're constantly on us wondering if we're in service from calls. I understand you're checking on us and I do appreciate it, but don't ask me if we're in service every 5 minutes. We'll call ourselves clear when we're done. Like last night, we're on a call for an unresponsive person and the girl at dispatch says she has a pressing call and needs a unit. Well sweetheart, we're on a pressing call that needs a unit; send another station if you have to! No sweat off my back.

We had a girl named Kyle at summer camp once.  She was put into the boys rooms and the boys small group the first day.  She was bummed to have to leave the small group on day two.  She liked being one of the boys.  The rooms, not so much.

I have met maybe 5 girls with my name, and they all have the same issue or they go by their middle name.. I love my name, I was going to be an Ashley, then my mom's best friend who had a baby weeks before I was born names her daughter so, my dad liked Ryan, and she said no one would steal that.. once people are over the fact I am a woman, everyone backpedals and says "ohh that is really pretty/interesting name for a girl".. my little sister is Chais instead of Chase, people seem to not assume she is a boy and get it right.

  • diverting back to the OP's question. . . . I was at dinner last night and witnessed a "Seriously?" situation at the table behind me.  It was a group of 20-something females.  One was drinking diet cokes.  When the bill came she told the waiter that there had been too much ice in her diet cokes and she wanted them taken off the bill.  She had drank them at this point, all 2 or 3 of them.  The manager said no.  She announced loudly that she will never return to the restaurant and proceeded to not leave a tip.

    I can't.

    wow.

    Some customers can be assholes.

Oh the flip side, we had an horrible experience at a place in NYC.   All the temps on the steaks were wrong, drinks were wrong.   Sides were wrong.  It was horrible.   DH saw my cream of spinach, tasted it and then asked the waiter for an order.   The waiter brought him a vodka and soda instead.   WTF?

Anyway, we took care of the problem right then and there.  We didn't eat everything and then wait for the check to show up.  They ended up taking a good $600 off our bill.   (there was 17 of us.  Not one order was correct)

Point of the story is take care of the issue when it occurs, not after you have eaten/drank everything then complain.
