And now it's Thursday

Re: And now it's Thursday

  • @swazzle - You should reconsider. I mean, it's on sale! :)
@speakeasy14 - I don't wear a lot of coats since it never really gets cold here but your collection sounds awesome. I don't know why, but a good coat makes me feel so much more put together in the winter!
@eilis1228 - H and I had the same problem. We had so many gift cards left over after our wedding, but it was nice to hold onto them until there was something we needed.

  • 1. I LOVE buttered popcorn Jelly Bellys, so send them all to ME.

    2. @jenjen047 - SWOON. That dress is GORGEOUS and you look absolutely beautiful in it!!

    3. My new medication makes me really sleepy and foggy and I don't like it. It's supposed to make me focus and pay better attention, and it's totally doing the opposite. Plus it gives me headaches. This blows.

  • @eilis1228 - The vet or shelter should be able to get you new vaccination records! Whoever had them administered. I had to get multiple copies for my dog at the beginning for all of his classes and stuff, and I just went to the vets office and they printed them off.

Gourmet hot dogs.... uhhh..... Multiple types of dogs to choose from, then tons of topping mixes. I had a pimento cheese spread and grilled onions, then there was a giant bar of other sauces and mustards. They had something like 4 types of chili to choose from for chili dogs and tots. We also ordered some tots with a gorgonzola sauce and crumbled bacon on top. (@MissKittyDanger)

  • @TwoDimes Yeah, that was the plan with her paperwork. We just hadn't had a chance to put it all together yet, and we both thought it was sitting out on our kitchen island. Nope, sure wasn't! We have definitely learned our lesson.

@MissKittyDanger Thanks for the tip! If her separation anxiety doesn't get better after another week or so, I will definitely look into that.

@KeptInStitches Kitchen organization stuff like that is a really good idea. We are constantly trying to figure out how to better organize everything.

@beachyone15 Right now we both feel like we don't really need anything. Our apartment is bursting at the seams with wedding gifts, and coupled with the upcoming gift-giving holiday, we can't possibly imagine buying MORE things! I think we'll focus on kitchen organization and some nice pillows.

@jenjen047 No prob! I hope it helps! The alterations ladies said standing like that really helps the dress to "flow naturally," and it seemed to work well.

@AlPacina I hope you're right! We're still within the 7-day trial period with her too, so I can't imagine the rescue would have gotten rid of those records yet anyway. I'm sure we aren't the first people to have lost everything. *facepalm* Re: hot dogs-- Wow, different types of chili?! Very interesting. I am now craving a chili dog with fancy cheese. Did they have like different meat and stuff? A bison dog? A venison dog? I'm very intrigued by gourmet hot dogs lol.

  • @TwoDimes - That incredible chair is over budget!

    @speakeasy14 - EW.

@eilis1228 - Awww poor little pup! Can you still add to your registry? We registered at Macy's but could still add to it for like a year after our wedding and then I could use those registry completion discounts on new stuff.

@AlPacina - I think I had told her earlier that night that I was only allowed to spend money on things that we went to the mall for and that coat was not one of those things, unfortunately.

@KeptInStitches - I imagine you'd be pretty hammered during the first movie!

  • @GoldenPenguin  Yayyy!! Fellow popcorn jelly belly lover!
  • @swazzle, another way to guarantee hammered is to drink every time someone mentions the Force or has a bad feeling about something.
  • @eilis1228 - I had a beef dog, BF had a turkey dog, and the only other one I remember was a brat. But there were a few more!

@Swazzle - Baby Peeta is the fucking cutest!!!!

Yes, but I love my SS so much and I know she'd love it, so I'm going to spend a TON. It's my money so why should anyone else care?! ;)
I spent a FORTUNE YOU GUYS!

  • Ugh, Zoey is killing me with this separation anxiety. I had H log into the web cam, and apparently she's wailing again and pulling up her bed so she can try and jailbreak. I need her to adjust to being alone in the apartment ASAP.

  • @eilis1228 - Oh no! Do you take her on a long walk in the morning? (And I mean long in puppy length, probably not long at all for you, haha) In the mean time you could at least try and wear her out as much as possible before you go.

I don't have any experience with separation anxiety so I'm no help there, but I guess it's good you're able to monitor her so you know what's going on.

  • @eilis1228 leave a piece of clothing that smells like you and/or H in her crate.  Keep stuffing peanut butter in Kongs to keep her occupied.  We had tried those calming collars and they did nothing.  For situations that Cal gets really nervous I'll add a few drops of Rescue Remedy to her water or a treat, it helps keep her calm without doping her up.  Also, make sure to go around to all of your apartment neighbors, apologize and let them know of the situation.  My sister did that when she moved to her apartment because people were complaining about the noise; as soon as she apologized the complaints stopped.

This is so hard :( Hugs to you, mama! I know it's heartbreaking, but if you keep at it, it should get better quickly. Indy was this way for the first couple weeks, then the barking and crying gradually went from constant, to the first hour after we left, to now she barks for a minute or two and then she gives up and goes to sleep.

What all have you tried to combat the anxiety? Some recommendations:

-feed her her meals in the crate (with the doors open) so she knows it's a safe place
-when you are home, have her go into her crate (leave the doors open, don't shut her in), give her treats and praise for going in, let her come out, repeat.
-leave an old tshirt or blanket in the kennel that smells like her littermates, or assuming that's not possible, like you and H
-leave a tv or radio on for some sound/company for her(or to drown out barking/wailing so you don't annoy your neighbors)
-kong with peanut butter when she goes in the kennel to keep her occupied
-lots of exercise so she is exhausted before you leave for work in the morning so she sleeps in her kennel

All the hugs to you, though. It's heartbreaking to see them cry!
Yep, we've done all those things except the radio/TV. We plan to get a radio for her this weekend. We may also see how easy it to get Netflix to play continuously. I've been watching a lot of Friends on there, so I'm thinking she may associate the theme song and voices with me, so if we're able to get it to play non-stop, she may think I'm home and chill the eff out.

On Tuesday she rejected her Kong because she learned to associate it with us leaving. I've started giving them to her (but with ice cubes so she doesn't eat too much) while we're home if she's been good in her crate.

H walks her before we leave and plays with her. She usually is pretty tired when we leave, but I guess she wakes up and freaks out when she realizes we're gone.

She loves her crate when we're home. She just hates being away from us. She's actually gotten really anxious in the last 6 days. When we first got her, she was super social. Now everyone scares her. She also loved other dogs, and now she's super timid around them. I'm glad she's bonded with us so fast, but holy crap. I can't believe how quickly she's forgotten that she used to live with other dogs and that she was constantly around different people.

I know she has to figure it out on her own and self soothe, it just really sucks getting her there. I'm crossing my fingers she gets over it all within the next week or so.

  • @labro & @minskat30 I hope this cycle works. It worked on my second medicated cycle so we will see..... Sorry to everyone else on the ute update statuses

Ugh I've been in meetings all morning and have more this afternoon.   I'm dragging today.

@alpacina I like the movie.  I love the show itself though I did it about 6 years ago as a Hot Box Dancer and it was one of the best experiences ever.

    Anniversary

  • @Swazzle Ugghhh I wish! Adulting is hard.

  • @labro - I have no frame of reference for baby development. When do they typically do this? Either way, YAY CALLIE!!!

@eilis1228 - Hugs! It's so hard seeing your baby upset. :( Fingers crossed this gets better for you ASAP. I second all of @twodimes recommendations, especially the tshirt and the music. It helped my dog not to feel so alone.

@goldenpenguin - Sorry your medication isn't doing what you'd hoped. :( Did the doctor say this was a possibility at first while your body adjusts?

  • @TwoDimes She'll be 4 months old on Sunday. We are hoping to socialize her more this weekend and also practice more at crate training and general obedience training. We had people over last weekend, and she's been to Petsmart with us too a few times, so I don't know why she's suddenly so anxious with everyone. We've had friends offer to go play with her while we're gone, but I told them that I really have to get her used to being alone in the crate and getting on a routine before we can break the routine. I know consistency is key, it's just tough watching her suffer like that. We haven't had any complaints so far, but I let the leasing office know yesterday that she's got really bad separation anxiety. Luckily our immediate neighbors work during normal business hours, so I don't think she's bothering anyone just yet. Puppy training is hard. I feel like it's mostly, "Ignore your puppy and be a dick to her so she learns you're the alpha."

@speakeasy14 Oooooh I'll look into that! I like that it's not really doping the dog, just helping ease their anxiety. I'm still hopeful that she'll adjust on her own though in a few days.

@AlPacina the web cam is both good and bad. Good because I can see the extent of her anxiety, but bad because I seriously can't watch it for long. It gives me a lot of anxiety to even log in and watch her because I know exactly what I'll see. Today I've just asked H to log in and tell me if she's good or bad. She's at least making some progress while we're at home though. She's stopped crying as much in general when we're home, and she responds well to me yelling at her very loudly but firmly when she starts barking or going too crazy. I don't react to her crying at all. Even when I come home at lunch, I sit in front of her crate and won't let her out until she stops crying. If only I could get her to behave as well when we aren't home...

  • @swazzle jar jar, is the biggest klutz, flake, doofus ever.  I can see why people would say he's annoying, but I can relate to his weirdness haha

*eta Why can't I type today!?!
Are we talking about Jar Jar binks?? That effer almost RUINED Star Wars single handedly. I wanted to beat the dumb out of Lucas after that BS.
"Stuart was scared, but he loved Margalo, Mommy. And there is nothing bigger than love." -The Bean
"His farts smell like Satan's asshole mixed with a skunk's vagina. But it's okay, because I love him." -CSousa

  • I can't stand Jar Jar Binks.  I don't even count those 3 movies as part of Star Wars, mostly because of crap like that.  Does ANYONE like him!?!
  • @CocoBellaF - That scene freaked me out. I did NOT like that thing swimming around in the water.

@beanbot2002, @CocoBellaF - H told me to just buy the 3 we bought, he also doesn't like the other 3. I take it I don't NEED to watch them before seeing the new one coming out?

  • @Swazzle - I don't think you NEED to watch them before.  You might miss out on a few references, but the core movies are IV, V, and VI.  And yes, that scene is creepy!!
