Dress question

I hate illusions on dresses would it be difficult to have the lace covered in the back part where the illusion is? Can the illusion be removed from the front of the dress or would that cause a problem with the structure of the from of it or just have the front covered with lace as well?

Re: Dress question

  • I think it probably is pretty individual. I'm petite framed and liked a lace back dress. The seamstress initially thought she could just take in the extra lace to make it lay flat but when she looked more closely, she realized this would cause the dress to buckle and there wasn't enough structure for it to lay flat. I;d be worried about that with the dress on the right with the tulle skirt. The the other dress i think I would cover the illusion in the front with lace because it looks like it would fall forward otherwise. Is it illusion on the back? Or just a center line for the zipper/buttons? It looks more sheer than the front.
  • It will be next to impossible to match the lace.  Any other lace you have put in will look odd.  I agree with @thisismynickname.

  • Impossible. It will ruin the way the dress hangs and getting it filled in with lace in a way that looks decent would cost a fortune.
  • Instead of trying to adjust these dresses, why not find a dress that better fits your needs? Significant design alterations can be difficult and stressful if it doesn't turn out like you wanted. PP makes a good point about lace laying flat (notice how, in the pictures, the lace patterns follow the body contour) and I'd also be wondering where the extra lace would come from.
So much this.  I hate when brides want to buy a dress and then basically completely remake it into something different.  Why not just find a dress that fits what you want instead of spending a crap ton of money and time remaking a dress that may or may not turn out?

Changing a straight neckline into a sweetheart?  Okay.  But taking an illusion lace dress and trying to remove the illusion part?  No.  Just buy a damn dress without the illusion detail.
