Ballgown for pregnant bride?

I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding this summer where the bride is pregnant. She wants a ballgown, preferably one that doesn't show her belly. We've now been 4 different boutiques (and she's visited an additional 3 others with other BMs and her mom) and she has yet to find one that meets those requirements. Drop waist is obviously out. The ones that have a natural waist will likely be too tight and make her look very wide. I've tried steering her in the direction of empire waist chiffon, but she really wants a ball gown. Any advice?

I tried on a lot of empire waist tulle ballgowns. I loved this one and it had so, so many layers of tulle it might have been able to hide a pregnancy bump:

And this one had even more tulle (I think it was an Allure):

Also I know my consultant said we could raise or lower the waist line on a lot of the dresses so it would hit exactly where I wanted it so your friend might want to ask about that. Most of the designers I tried on would do it for $100.

  • Oohh, none of the ones we visited brought up moving the waist line. I'll have to mention that to her. Thanks for the photos!
