Freakin' Friday!

Re: Freakin' Friday!

  • @TwoDimes @AlPacina - I think there was a bottle in mine intended for that but since I've always been very openly on the fence about kids, they labeled it "Good news" or something like that.

  • All this talk of gifts is making me think..My BFF and her H are celebrating their 10 year anniversary in June. That's awesome! I want to get them a little something, but I have no idea what. What would you want to receive???

  • @beachyone15  Really! My dr didn't mention that, but we didn't talk about it much except for the fact I need to switch my meds before we do. I must be sure to ask!
I'm no expert but some of the sites I saw {one being 'thebump.com'} said if it's low dose then it should be easier. It might vary between person to person also
I've also got twins on both sides of my family :\

MAMA'S AND MAMA'S TO BE, CHIME IN?? HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR SOME OF YOU AFTER TAKING B.C?
  • @AlPacina we got enough that if we wanted a couples massage, but Matt had zero interest so I got a massage and just before our honeymoon I used the rest for a fancy pedicure :)
  • @TwoDimes I'm impressed that you haven't had a fight yet, just to have the wine haha

@beachyone15 giftcard for a couples massage? Do they have kids, maybe offer to babysit so they can have a night out? Or booze.

  • @beachyone15 Nope the length of time you've been on birth control should not have an effect. I was on it for 13 years straight. You can definitely get pregnant the month you stop, yet it's helpful to be off for a few months before trying to let your body cycles regulate. So many people (like myself) stop the pill 6 months before trying and use condoms until actually ready to try. This was helpful for me to track and pinpoint ovulation but it's not necessary.

@alpacina I didn't have a shower, but I love sentimental gifts like others are mentioning! My parents stayed at our honeymoon resort 3 months before our honeymoon so they had one of the artists painting on the beach paint a scene of a bride & groom on the beach (even looks like my dress style and has the groom's beard!) and our names and date. I love it, it's on my fireplace mantle!

  • @jenna8984  That actually makes a lot of sense. Were you guys ever concerned about getting pregnant?
  • @speakeasy14 - I like the couple's massage idea. I've gotten them wine before and they don't have kids yet. But I know she always likes to have a date night when possible!

@beachyone15 - I second what @jenna8984 said.  How long you are on BC really has no impact on how soon, if at all, you get pregnant afterwards.  Each person's experience is really their own.  Even each person's experience can change depending on stress level, age, etc.  For example, I went off the pill in law school for a while and my period resumed normally immediately.  When we were TTC, I went off the pill and didn't get a period for 4-5 months.  My doctor didn't care if we waited to TTC before I got my period back but she said she only really "recommends" it because then it is easier for her to track conception.
  • @misskittydanger Nope! We were always careful with the condoms so we never worried about it. Although I think since I was tracking my ovulation we would skip those peak days just to be extra safe lol

  • A girl from high school just drowned on vacation in Puerto Rico. She was a lovely girl, always nice to everyone in school. We weren't close (I never went to her house or had her phone number or anything like that). But I ran into her at a party less than a year ago and she was so sweet and lit up when talking about her 6 year old daughter. I feel so terrible for her daughter and husband.

  • @jenna8984 - Oh no, that's terrible. Her poor husband and daughter. I just can't imagine.

  • @jenna8984 - Oh no! That is so tragic!

  • @jenna8984 - Oh god that is so sad. Her poor family :(

  • @MissKittyDanger - I've been on bc for over 10 years as well. Does that make a difference in TTC?
I did ask my doctor about timing after stopping bc, and she said that in the first month you are off bc you are much more likely to conceive twins!! Just FYI!
My OB always told me that it doesn't matter how long you have been on BC and it shouldn't affect TTC when you stop it. What she did recommend though is to stop it 3 months prior to ttc just so my cycle could get back to normal...that was the pill though. I think with an IUD you can just take it out be good to go.

@jenna8984 Ugh that is such a tragedy. :(

My coworker told me about a woman on the client side she has worked with for many many years now. She lost her 7 year old daughter this week. She was crossing the street with her father to attend a father-daughter dance and a car struck her. I tear up every time I think of it.

  • @AlPacina I think one of my favorite shower gifts was from my bridesmaids...it was this:

Also I have the same monogrammed tote as @labro but mine is navy and pink. It has been really useful in the car.
  • @jenna8984 That breaks my heart. I'm so sorry to hear about that : (
  • @jenna8984 & @labro omg both of those stories! Those families :(

  • @AlPacina I'm working on a blanket as a wedding gift for my BIL who's getting married in July. I've made one for H's parents, his other brother who got married already, and we have one so it's kind of a tradition.

Favorite Bridal Shower Gift: My grandma made a little basket with small gifts - a tiny spatula, His & Her mugs (we're tea fanatics), a dishtowel, and - the cutest thing - a food dish for Cooper. It was all just so thoughtful and was full of all of those little things you never buy yourself.

My cousin also got me one of these and I use it allll the time:

  • @jenna8984 just read your post... how tragic.
  • @jenna8984  & @labro both those stories are breaking my heart :(

Side note: I was trying to find a gif from The Borrowers, and totally forgot all of the actors in that movie! Draco Malfoy had curly red hair!
