Oh I know @kimmiinthemitten It's perfectly timed for the 5 pm news.  4 pm drop means all elementary parents will either be picking kids up at school or standing at the bus stop and the administration offices will be closed before people can process.

News people are lining up neighbors for pre interviews and live reactions.

Why is this such a big thing there?  I don't get it.  They redistricted us right before Wooz started kindergarten, and people were interested, but not crazy.

my guess - it's Ohio - there's nothing else to talk about ;-)
  • Delta super sucks!  But they do one way flights to Winnipeg, so I gotta use them from time to time.   Or is that United.....?  I get them mixed up.  one has shorter seat belts though and it's a close call for me sometimes.  I had to purchase Delta flights for work one day and didn't even know I was paying extra for the choice, so I got a slap on the hand from A/P.  I was new, so they paid it but told me I don't get that option.

I'm not a pie person either.  I mean, I'll eat it because I usually do eat things I don't really enjoy, but give me cake or cookies or ice cream over pie.

I live in Chicagoland.  My area had predicted 3-6" and then further north was like 4-8" (two days accumulation).  I may have gotten 1" where I live.  And that's over exaggerating.  I panicked and texted my lawn/snow removal guy to remind him since he hadn't shoveled me out in awhile.  I said if we get the 3-6 called for, can you please have my driveway done before 5?  He didn't respond, and I don't think it needs it but he's also the type of guy to do it anyway just to invoice me.  And I think the sun will melt everything on the driveway anyway.  I'm not even home to know if he did it or not.

@Heffalump A few thoughts.  You probably weren't as interested because you didn't have kids in school yet.  When I'm with school aged parents it's a huge topic.  With preschool/kinder crowds they don't seem to be paying attention as much.

Our 3 high schools all rank top 10 in the state.  People move to this district because of the education so it's something they think about a lot.

Probably the biggest is that they have nothing else to worry about.

Are we having a pop-off? :)  No, we actually moved to the district because Wooz was starting kindergarten that fall, so we were definitely following it.  But it was more like "Oh, our neighborhood is moving from A to B" not "The Channel 14 Newscopter is on standby!"

Is your kindergarten half day?  I seem to recall that it was.  Maybe that accounts for the difference in KG vs. school age parents?  Here, kindergarten is full day, and it's considered part of the schools just like all the other grades.

Definitely not a pop it's just something That has being glaringly obvious in my two groups of friends. Our kinder is stupid. M2 goes all day but she goes Monday Thursday every other Wednesday.

I was wondering if it was as bad a predicted. DD lives downtown but commutes up north. I always worry about her driving when it is so bad. Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as expected. Moms worry no matter how old the "kid" is LOL.

And an incoming kindergartener is a lot different than a 4th grader or a sophomore changing schools midstream

    *gets the popcorn*

Reporters at the bus stops and news copters circling just sounds like a safety hazard for the kids and parents. Sounds like the superintendent is giving you guys the finger before he's ushered out.

Our district and the other very good district in the area seem to be adding schools and shuffling stuff annually due to all of the people moving to the area - which may be why it seems like a non-event. We're in a more established neighborhood so little risk for our boundaries to change. We also have 100+ schools in our district.

There are no helicopters. I'm not sure where that came from.

Everything North of us gets it worse.  Even rain!  I heard going into downtown was bad.  I only have a 15 minute commute to work, but the central 'burbs weren't bad at all!  The last few predictions have been laughable actually.  Hope she didn't have it bad!
