Wedding Woes

Wednesday/Hump Day

Good morning, WW!  What's shakin'?

DS and I were running errands while Wooz was at art, and I shut his finger in the car door. :'(  To be fair, it wasn't carelessness--he reached in for something at the last second, after I had already let go.  Tried to grab it, but I didn't catch it in time.  Broke the skin at the cuticle, so I think he was more upset about the blood than anything.  We've been keeping an eye on it, and I think it's okay.  He doesn't seem to be favoring it, and it's not swollen.

Wooz has spring picture day today, and almost missed the bus because she was futzing with her hair.  Then DH and I had DS's parent-teacher conference, which reaffirmed that he's more of a scholar than an athlete.  I'm okay with that.  Apparently he and one of the little girls in his class are sweet on each other, which is hilarious.

We're halfway through the week.  One of my colleagues is retiring Friday, so we're making plans to take him out to lunch.  He gets to pick, so I hope he chooses someplace good.  :)

Re: Wednesday/Hump Day

  • H and I both got home early last night (a rarity in the Charlotte household) so there was BCBC and popcorn for dinner. The dog busted down the door right in the middle of the fun, and I don't know when the last time I laughed that hard.

    I'm shirking my responsibilities today and showing a documentary in my morning class. I'm sure they will be heartbroken. For the record it's related to the course and they will use it in a simulation next week. Other than that just working on project and giving a presentation this weekend on the federal court system for a community engagement workshop.
  • Things are pretty much back to normal after my girls weekend in Charleston. Today we are having the new flooring put down in our guest bath so I'm at home waiting. I'll have to get my workout at home today since the workers will be here. Other than that not too much excitement.
  • Learned this morning that Twiggy likes to chase school buses.  We will not be walking at 6am any longer, and I guess it's back to early early mornings.  On the plus side, I saw a shooting star and made a wish that the week would end.  The pragmatic in me believes in wishing for things that are realistically inevitable.  It avoids the disappointment.  The eternal dreamer in me thinks that's a wasted wish.  We are in constant battle.  It's exhausting.

    I worked a little backshift last night, and DH waited up for me so he could at least give me a goodnight kiss.  He's so sweet.  We're both tired today, and I am highly unmotivated.  I think I'm just burned out more than anything.  After Friday, things should slow down a little, but they won't be back to normal til the week after next.

    Almost there...

  • DH is back to a normal work schedule so I actually got some house work done. I took a mid day break to have coffee with some friends. Tonight we are getting dinner at some food truck thing down the street. I am excited because we walked by last night otw to our friends place and there was a BBQ truck! It won't be pulled pork but I hope it is good.
  • My oldest called last night because there was a shooting at a fraternity at his university last week and it turns out that the shooter was his across the hall neighbor and my son was likely the last person to have seen him before he went on his rampage. His gun jammed so no one was injured at the frat, but he got it cleared and turned it on himself.

    H's damn dog ate Mouse's snack off the table while Mouse was checking in on Norah. I smacked the dog and hit my hand wrong busting a blood vessel in my finger. It's black and blue today and hurts to bend it.

    Other than that, SSDD.

    @Heffalump, aww poor wooz. I know exactly the injury you talk about it, and it's not fun!
    @charlotte989875, that's funny about your dog!  Ours will whine at the bed during some BCBC time too. lol

    We tried to get our taxes done during my lunch hour yesterday, but it was just to complex, and I have apt #2 on Friday with them.   Last night DH picked me up from work, and since it was 1/2 off movie night I agreed to Power Rangers (I'll pay $6.00 for it.  Not $12.00).  It was as cheesy as the TV show.  I slept through some of it.  Nacho's were good.

    Tonight I'm going to Cirque d'or with a friend.  I bought tickets awhile ago for DH and I, but he's working so I'm taking a friend of mine. Should be fun.

    omg, how CRAZY is that?!?  I'm so sorry about the turn of events ;(

    edit: at first I  read "turned it on himself" as "he turned himself in"  - which would have been a better outcome.  Sometimes I read to fast.

    Horrible situation.

  • @DrillSergeantCat holy shit! That's super scary!!!!

    Today H and I are working from home because we have baby appointments with the OB and specialists at the hospital this afternoon. I'm nervous because I just want everything to be okay with our baby girl. Whenever I WFH it's usually super quiet - but this morning has been pretty hectic which is good because it's helping me keep my mind off of things.

    Side note - do any of you watch Trial and Error - the new show with Jonathan Lithgow? I started watching it because it was on right after This Is Us, and now I am hooked. It's hysterical.

    @DrillSergeantCat holy shit that's scary.

    My boss is in Vegas on vacation with his family.  He and I have been working via email since 6.  I can't wait for his wife to wake up so I can go clean.

  • @sparklepants41 good luck with your appointments. We have been watching Trial and Error. It's good.
  • @sparklepants41 I saw one episode of it and thought it was funny although I haven't set it up to DVR yet

    scary about your son's neighbor @DrillSergeantCat

    Is anyone watching Sweet Home Oklahoma?  It's on Bravo and these chicks literally make me laugh out loud.  One woman's kid's programmed Siri to call her Butt-Liquor

    No.  But that sounds right up my alley!

    I need to because that's where I'm from.
  • Yikes @DrillSergeantCat  - that is scary.

    I'm liking these 2 days off in a row stuff.    Today we have an exciting day of laundry, depositing rent and making a Costco run (which is over an hour away).
    WooHoo!  Exciting I tell you.   At least it's cloudy and rainy so I don't feel bad for not being outside.

    Tonight we are taking the F&B staff from the club bowling for an end of the season party.   They closed on Sunday and will not open again until Mid-May.  Except for Easter.  They are making him open up for Easter (so stupid).  DH has a life of leisure the next 6 weeks.  He has to pop-in and get his staff lined up for the summer.   Create new menus, etc.  But for the most part the most he will only work a few half days a week until we go away at the end of April.

    FL job update - DH talked to the HH.  Apparently, one of DH's best friends and a chef he worked under a few times called the head hunter interested in the FL job.  The job isn't even posted yet.  DH was talking to him about the job (they talk all the time about opportunities)  and he contacted the HH.

     J really wants out of where he is.  His wife's family is from FL.    He is reminding DH how he has a great gig here in CO, blah, blah.    Basically wanting DH to back down so he might have a chance.    DH isn't backing down though. If anything he is more motivated.     I think J is jealous of DH's success a little.   DH was his #2 for many years.  J didn't think DH was ready to be an exec chef.  When J left the islands he thought DH would come with him, again.  But instead he stayed and got the exec chef job J left.   While J hates his current job, he is successfully (been written up in magazines and stuff), he did have about 3 years of some hard times.  He isn't the easiest chef to work with.    When DH was let go of the NOLA job, J interviewed to take DH's position.  He didn't get the job, but it was odd he even tried after DH was let go.    Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

    What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • @DrillSergeantCat is he okay?  That has got to be a horrific process for him to be going through.

    All pride, all the time right now.  I've got a big push and then things will quiet down a wee bit again, to pick back up in May.  I've got a big problem on my committee and I'm having to pull in a lot of people on the correct way to deal with it.  My style is "cut out the cancer" and push the problem out; that might not be the best thing for the community and committee though, so I'm trying to get input before acting.

    Work is getting a wee bit complicated, but I'm trying to grab control of that too.

    Whew...is it June 25 yet?  :D

    @DrillSergeantCat and @CharmedPam it's 3 women that have actually been friends for a long time so I've not seen any real fighting.  There's also a weird/funny cluster with one of the ex-husband's.
  • @Heffalump  yay work lunch :)

    @thefanciestbeckler  I think the dog hair might be inevitable ;)

    @DrillSergeantCat  That's scary and sad :( How's your oldest dealing? Everything okay in the frat now?

    @sparklepants41  I'm sure everything is fine :) I've seen ads, but haven't watched yet. Looks funny though and reminds me of his character from "3rd Rock from the Sun"

    @VarunaTT  It's not even April yet :P

    Urg ... so Monday afternoon I felt sick. Ended up getting M to pick me up because I wasn't sure I'd make it on the bus {stop-and-go gives me motion sickness}
    Thankfully he did, because I was sick at work. {yes made it to bathroom....} but it was pasta sauce. So the all-mighty burn of acid commences! I basically had nothing to eat and went to bed early. Felt queezy all friggen night so didn't go to work yesterday. Slept most of the morning.

    I hate being home when M is! It's so bloody irritating. I feel like he should be doing more.
    Of course, he did nothing yesterday and now he's sick {not stomach bug - might be flu}

    I got my spray, so I've used it a couple times. I already feel the reduction on pressure. It's not gone, but significantly reduced :)

    Also I need to get things set up for this weekend. Saturday I'm doing a DIY video about flowers in a jar, like this:

    Well most stores sell that for like $15 and I can make it for far less and more personalized :)

    So if anyone wants a link to my youtube channel when the video is done, let me know! I don't want people to think I'm just pimping out my channel ;)

    @DrillSergeantCat  - that is so crazy.  I hope son is coping ok.

    The new Boston foster dog keeps nipping and lunging at me when I try to pet her and then she curls up in my lap or snuggles under the covers with me.  WHAT DO YOU WANT, FOSTER DOG?!

    My drivers license expires this week and I am so excited to finally get rid of the God awful pic I have had for the past 6 years.

  • @VarunaTT yeah he's good. I think he kind of expected something like this.

    @6fsn I'll have to catch up on it.

  • @charlotte989875, that's funny about your dog!  Ours will whine at the bed during some BCBC time too. lol

    They are in the room?! Our dog (Charlie) whines and cries if we even get close to one another. It's like he feels left out of the affection.

    yup.  Milo would panic if we shut a door.  But he's a small shih tzu and for the most part, he sleeps on a cushion at the foot of the bed.  Unless he wants up.  He does like to sleep between us though, but it usually doesn't last long.

  • Our dog leaves the room if DH and I start kissing, sometimes even if we just get too close for his liking, lol.
  • We usually lock the dogs outside, but since Twiggy blew out his knee, we can't do that, and he knows how to open doors, so more often than not we'll find him just staring at us.  Hiccup is less... Intrusive.  You get used to it... Kind of.

    However, we can't even hug each other anymore without Twiggy wanting to be part of the mix.  We have to do such things in places like the closet or the pantry, or quick ninja-hugs because he's a total suckbucket and jumps on us for a hug, too.

    This is what happens to us, too! Charlie will come running out of nowhere and launches himself into the hug.
  • @lyndausvi that sounds like a crappy friend contacting the HH unless your DH didn't mind or that is par for the course?
  • Our cats are total creepers! Sometimes we're in the living room {don't judge ... the curtains are closed lmao} and after we finish we realize one of them {typically Penny} has been watching.

    Other night, I went to go get a drink and Angel was waiting just around the corner of the couch. I was like "Uhm ... thanks for waiting over there?"

    With an ex, we were in his bed and his cat hopped up on the bed. I laughed but he just shoved the cat away {the cat was coming over to see what was happening} and the cat walked away. LMFAO
  • Does anyone still do the alphabet when they take stems off of apples? Now that I'm married I do it to what letter my first kid will be named - I just did it and it's actually the letter we've talked about :) kinda cool lol
