TGIF!!

Happy Friday! We're heading off to Buffalo for my MIL's surprise birthday party and to see my sister on her first Mother's Day. Looking forward to a weekend away from house renovations and job applications. What's on tap for everyone else? Hope all you Moms out there have a great, relaxing weekend!

Spending the day at the zoo with the kids. Tomorrow 2 soccer and 2 baseball games. Grilling out burgers and veggies. Sunday 1 soccer and 1 lacrosse game. I'm hoping to get a nap and a reservation for a future breakfast
  • Tonight I have running around to do.  Tomorrow, I'm sure there will be more running around and then dinner at my parent's after the kiddo gets off work.  Sunday, we have a glorious nothing planned.

DefConn's performance last night was great.  It was part super cuteness and part herding cats and all of it was fun.  They had one number where they wore sunglasses and another where they were waving American flags.  They probably should have kept the glasses on for the flag performance as a precaution.  ;)

I missed so much on here yesterday! I left work at noon and went home. By 2, I had already mowed, edged, weedeated, sprayed weed killer on the driveway, cleaned the dining room, cleaned the bathroom, started cleaning the bedroom, and took a shower. Then, I went to H's house and sat in my car on the street. When I got there CBN (crazy bitch neighbor) was outside and I thought I was going to have to say something, but she was just getting her groceries out of her car. About half an hour later, CBN came out again to feed the birds, she saw me, startled a bit, and went right back inside.

Afterwards, was the inspection on our new house. The worst problems are there are no GFCI outlets in the kitchen, the hot and cold water are backwards in the main bathroom tub, a couple outlets out in the backyard aren't working, and the garage door safety features need to be adjusted.

After that, I went back home and, fortunately, H got off early so he cooked dinner while I snuggled Princess. After dinner, I finished cleaning our bedroom, finished up some laundry, caked some yarn, and got the house ready to be photographed. It hasn't looked this good since Mouse was born.

eta - tomorrow we are participating in a walk for CF. No idea about the rest of the weekend.
  • Morning.

Today I have a doctor's appt.  It's a multiple reason visit.  1) follow up on my cough (which finally went away). 2) my left knee is hurting in the back and slightly swollen.   3) my left ear aches.         Sucks getting old.

DH  talked to the sous chef in FL yesterday. DH had to give him the shopping list for his tasting.  He said DH was the lead candidate last year and he was disappointed they didn't offer him the job.  The chef they did give the job to was a prick and only lasted a few months.   Apparently the first guy who did a tasting last week was bad.  DH's BF did okay.  The sous confided he hopes they will over the job to DH.

After hearing that, my mind went into overdrive.  I was up half the night.  30 hour drive with TWO dogs?  Yikes.  Finding a place to stay with 2 dogs will be fun - not!

What about all my ski stuff?    Since FL club's season is in the winter us going skiing will be slim.  I just spent $200 on new goggles.  Another $100 on a new vest (on sale).  New helmet. Gloves.  DH bought me a new ski jacket for xmas.  Should I have yard sale?  Sale stuff on the valley swap?    What else can I purge?  The Waterford shot glasses we got for our wedding and have never used?

I totally overwhelmed my brain last night - lol.  Needless to say, I'm a little tired today and might need a nap.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  I'm working both Saturday and Sunday.

PS - DH just got off his Peloton bike.   He loves that thing.  Especially since some of our family also ride, so it's like a competition against them.

I'm NOT allowed down stairs when he is riding.  He doesn't want anyone watching him.  Even in passing.  He is VERY adamant about anyone being down there.  Even the dogs bug him.  I can't even just go down the stairs and out the door.  I have to use the other door if I want to leave the house.

He just told me if I find him laying on the floor his heart exploded.   I was like "well, Im not allowed down there when you are riding, so I wouldn't know."   He thought for about 5 seconds and said "okay, if I don't return in 3 hours or you hear a loud boom, you can come down".   LOL.

  • Tonight, we are watching RPDR at the local bar that shows it.  It's always fun to watch with a big group of people.  I'm really afraid one of my favorite queens is going to end up on the chopping block this week or next though.  I will cry.

Tomorrow, helping to move a friend and I'm so happy to be helping her move.  She has been trapped in a "we are divorcing but can't do it yet" marriage and is moving out of their marital home finally, to my little city, starting school again, and just basically re-booting her life at 40.  I'm so excited for her to finally be moving. and leaving this man behind 100%.

Hopefully, Sunday is a down day.
  •  @DrillSergeantCat glad the inspection went well and CBN stayed away.

we had people over last night and it was fun. :)
the dog woke me up early to take him out, then I woke DH up for some BCBC. We had a couple adult beverages for breakfast and then spent the day at the water park. There are at least 7 different water slides and some of those have 5 tubes but the lines were still longer than we wanted to deal with. We will splurge for the fast pass next time. You know you are getting old when the lazy river is your favorite part, lol. Both DH and his friend said the same thing though so I don't feel bad. There were even two, one was a little wilder with more waves and fountains but the laziest river was SO Relaxing we went round a half a dozen times.

now we are having margaritas and I am worn out, lol.
  • @DrillSergeantCat  wow productive 2hrs! Our kitchen had GFI switch issues, but those are really simple fix :) But at least the rest aren't too terrible. Glad CBN saw you, prob saved a whole lot of trouble!

@VarunaTT  oh I'm so happy for your friend :) You must be happy seeing her out of that situation.

Tonight is groceries. It's really weird to do it on a Friday. I already know this lmao!
    This weekend isn't really busy. M needs to borrow a saw, and may finish the pantry. {i'm hoping}
Saturday is first game of Sens vs Pens {ie; me vs @*Barbie* ;)!} and I think M talked about wanting to see if people wanna come over. Sooo .... I have to clean lmao!

Sunday is still up in the air for M. His mum is away and they're not 100% if they're coming back Saturday or Sunday. I'm going to see my mum and we're having a girlie time. I got her skin and nail stuff awhile ago, so I'm bringing face masks, nail polish and pretty much pampering ourselves.

It's suppose to get nice within next few days. Wednesday would have been my parents 31st anniversary, so I booked it off and I'm going to surprise my mum and meet her after work. M is likely going to meet us after work and we'll all go for dinner. I don't want her to feel alone or lonely that day.

Side note: M finally got the dates of his pay :) Since it's twice a month, it's a little weird. Apparently if the day lands on weekend or holiday, it'll go to the business day before. Like if the 15th is a Saturday, he'll get paid the Friday.
It's weird but it'll mean slightly higher pay as oppose to bi-weekly pays.

Today is bossman's last day, and we immediately revisited the same bullshit from Monday morning ("You didn't do this so I'm going to treat you like you're 12" and REFUSING to listen to me when I try to tell him "Yeah, Asshole, actually I DID do all those things."), so I walked out of his office and spent the next two hours flipping him off behind his back.  I haven't been this angry in months. It's pretty much beyond words the rage and frustration I have. I was telling DH this morning that his attitude towards me and treatment of my abilities and experience (or lack thereof) has hurt me so much professionally that I actually hate this job I have no reason to not love--not to mention has hampered my ability to learn and grow because I literally cannot ask questions. I'm never given the chance, and if I manage to ask one, he acts me like I'm a complete moron for having to ask at all.

    End rant.

Anyway, today's his last day, and I'm leaving in a half hour so GOOD RIDDANCE. I won't be sad to not see him Monday.

If I wasn't on call this weekend it'd be ALL THE MARGARITAS. As it is, I can only have SOME OF THE MARGARITAS. Which is better than none. :)

Guardians of the Galaxy tomorrow, maybe some gardening Sunday.

  • @DrillSergeantCat, sounds like the inspection went great!  Those are pretty minor easy/fairly cheap to fix items.  Yay, no CBN raining on the parade.

Making a large payment today my Home Equity Line of Credit because I've hoarded my rent payments from the first, ie too busy/lazy to go to the bank, and am getting  a rent payment today from a tenant whose rent is due on the 10th.  **Happy Dance**.  That HELOC is a monster and it brings me such joy to take a big bite out of it.

Arby's for lunch.  It's a bit of a drive to the closest one, but they have Pork Belly sandwiches right now and I MUST try one.

I should probably make a trip to Walmart sometime this weekend.

Saturday, I have a Vera Bradley purse to pick up from Harrahs.  It's a free gift from them.  Sunday, I'm going to be back at Harrahs because I have a coupon for two free brunch buffets.  Unlimited champagne/mimosas is included.  As such, H will be my designated driver, lol.

Since Sunday is Mother's Day, I need to remember to call my mom.  It's been a long time since we talked, so a call is overdue anyway.

  • @MissKittyDanger it's amazing the things I can get done when I'm child-free! I'm really pleased about the inspection and the fact that the biggest issues are still very minor.

I feel the same way when I'm husband free ;)

This is the way the club works for direct deposit.

We get paid on the 5th and 20th.  If those days fall on a weekend or holiday we get paid the business day before.  So if one of those days falls on say a Monday holiday, we get paid on Friday before.    If you get a live check you normally get it later in the day and might not be able to cash the check until later.

He's direct deposit, but it's so weird they have that. I'm use to military is that pay and they just get paid whenever and it doesn't change for holidays etc.

We're not 100% if he'll get paid tonight or Monday since monday is 15th :')

We would get paid on Monday.

I'm pretty sure the military has different depositing availability.  My old boss had an USAA account and his deposit always showed up a day before mine.  If a business deposited money over a weekend or holiday it wouldn't show up the next business day.  Which could case a delay of a day or more.  This way employees get the money right away.

  • Went and picked up flowers and baskets this morning after spin class. It is suppose to be nice this weekend so will be doing outside stuff that hasn't gotten done because of the monsoon that has gripped the midwest recently. When the kids were home, my Mother's Day gift (at least from the boys) was they planted my in ground flowers. Since they've been gone, H and I have done it. I'm not planting many this year - kind of over the maintenance. I will plant the 6 pots that have on the porches and around the driveway. Not much else going on this weekend.

Yes, that is usually how it works with direct deposits and holidays/weekends.

Except, contrary to every other job I've ever had, BOTH my f/t job and my p/t job pay on the NEXT business day after the payday date.  For example, at my f/t job we're paid on the 2nd and the 17th.  But if the 2nd falls on a Saturday.  And Monday is a holiday.  We're actually paid THREE days late on the 5th.  I'm fortunate to not live "paycheck to paycheck", so it's not too big a deal for me.  But that doesn't mean I don't hugely side-eye this b.s.

My p/t job is even worse.  They pay on the 1st and 15th.  At least that is what they say.  But it's a lie.  They PROCESS the payments on the 1st and the 15th.  So the soonest it will hit anyone's account is the 2nd or the 16th.  Oh, but just like my f/t job, if any of that falls on a holiday/weekend, that just delays my pay even more.

too funny about the bike @lyndausvi I could see me being the same with a workout video, I wouldn't want anyone watching me.
  • Today is SSDD. Yesterday turned into a little bit of a cluster. SO went to visit his grandma and she's obviously not doing well. I'm 99% sure she is in heart failure. But she refused to go into the doctor or to the ER. Poor guy. It was stressing him out so much. I wish I had gone with him.

My mom got an interesting letter from and old friend of my deceased uncle who used to be "very friendly" with him and who thought "he would make a great husband," and who has a kid (well, adult now) the same age as when they used to hang out...and with a grandson the same name as my uncle. So.....we might have a surprise cousin we never knew about. Lol. I was laughing with my mom about it last night. My Dad's family would lose their damn minds if it's true.

Tomorrow I have a Mother's Day brunch with my mom and my grandma. Then later that evening SO's sister and her bf and coming over and we're making dinner and then going to the movies. It's become kind of a weekly routine now. Not sure about Sunday, but a hike at some point sounds nice.

  • Tonight is probably going to be dinner and a meeting, or at least a meeting for me.

Tomorrow I'm participating in a beach clean-up. After that, I'll probably take Mutt to the dog park and do some things around the house. Later I'll meet my sponsor, and then FW and I are hanging out with a friend of hers.

Sunday is family day for us. We're going to call FMIL
and visit Mom, Grandma, and Oma.

Happy early Mother's Day to all the moms and mother-figures!
  • SSDD for me.  SOOOOOO glad it's Friday.
I did get a text from a friend of mine who's wedding (I'm in) is next week.
her:  "hey did you have leftovers at your wedding? Did you get the exact number?"
me: "yes we had leftovers.  We didn't eat them because the hotel fridge was so small to store it and yes we gave exact numbers and they made plenty!"
her: "oh. we told them 15-20 less, I'm sure we'll be fine!"

Head. Desk. Bang.  This is the one I talked out of a potluck a few months ago, but I don't know what's worse? Potluck or under ordering?

Does she know that the venue/caterer counts the number of guests? So if by chance, everyone shows up and has enough food, they still charge for the actual amount of guests?

@lyndausvi, getting old ain't for sissies, but it sure beats the alternative!

Yesterday, DH did a very romantic thing for me.  This will sound weird to some, but I think it was sweet.  We met with a city rep. at the cemetery and purchased plots.  I have moved so many times in my lifetime.  Now I feel that this is home.  The cemeteries in Iowa where our families are buried are full.  Now we have firm plans, and I don't have to feel uneasy.

Afterwards, I persuaded DH to go to a stone monument shop and look at possibilities.  From an engineering point of view, it was fascinating.  My things have changed!  I saw markers with engravings of motorcycles, landscapes, and even a pet poodle!  Some people evidently want to put symbols of their favorite things on their tombstones.  Not for us.  We like simplicity.  The different rock samples were interesting, too.

Somehow, it occurs to me that planning my funeral isn't much different than planning my wedding.  Well, at least there won't be feuding families.  Those people have all passed on before me.  I told DH I want to have my post-memorial service reception at the church to be catered by Famous Dave's Barbeque.  I don't see why my church lady friends should have to work so hard to make food.

Really, I'm not expecting this to happen for another year or two.  My health has been mostly stable, except I twisted my knee a few weeks ago, and I have been limping around.  It looks like our cruise around Japan is a go in late summer!  Woo-hoo!

Seems like your sprits are high.  That is good.  You should have no problem making your Japan trip.

I had an great-aunt who never got married, no kids either.   She had a funeral fund.  She had it in a separate account that a couple of her nieces had access too.   She died at age 80 something.   Now that was some kind of reception after the funeral.  Full open bar, tons of food.  Lots of laughing and story telling.

Must have been over 200 people. Too be fair she was one of 11 and had some 50+ nieces/nephews.   I always thought it was cool Grace had her funeral on her terms.

I shared with H my plans to donate any possibly donatable organ followed with cremation. I have a very hard time with the idea of being put in a box, but I feel better about being returned to ash. I may look into the tree thing.

I think her catering service is a drop off service.  It's not part of the venue she is renting.  I think ordering 15-20 less is a HUGE gap.  It's not like it's a difference of 2 people.  My response to her was "well we had enough for like 3 MAYBE 4 people".
