Wedding Woes

THURSDAY!

Starting this early, I may not check back in but I'll get it started.

for those with kids, Children's place is having a good sale. I only looked at toddler boy but shorts were $2-3 and tons of shirts for $3. I don't like TCP but they even had things like button ups, polos, plain shirts, etc for those prices so good deals if you haven't stocked up for summer yet.

or like me, who already has a clothing stock pile, next summer haha

Re: THURSDAY!

  • Thanks for the heads up @kvruns I have a ton of stuff up to 6 months but really not much after that. LO has grown SO much faster than we expected so I'm glad that I didn't stock up on stuff before she was born because it would've been for the wrong seasons.

Happy that it's Thursday. H is taking the baby to the nanny's house today so she can get used to being there before she starts going next week. My MIL has her three days a week and the nanny is taking the other two. I already hate that we're leaving her with a stranger but I feel better about it than a traditional daycare. There was an incident in my town where they found a phone with child pornography on it in February and didn't tell the parents until May, and it's one of the ones we had considered before we found the nanny. I'd love for H to just quit his job and be a stay at home dad but that's not financially in the cards right now.

@cupcait927 it is so hard to figure out kid sizes especially when they are little. Mine was always a size behind age but then a friend with a kid the same age had a big child who was like 2 sizes above age. So hard to figure out when they're little! I hope the nanny works out, so is it just 1 kid or does she watch multiple ?
  • Ugh - kid sizing is the worst!

She watches one girl M-F, who's about 2 years old. On Wednesdays she has another toddler there but my LO is only going on Thursday and Friday so she'll get a lot of one on one attention.

Kids clothing sizes are the absolute worst! One brand will run small, another runs long but skinny, a third runs big overall - it's insane. Luckily I've figured out which brands fit her the best and stick with those because I know they'll fit. Once Upon a Child opens back up here next week and I'm getting right in there because at least if I stock up there and she doesn't end up wearing all of it, I won't feel terrible because it's second hand and it's super cheap.
  • My MIL recently asked what size DS is wearing now, I honestly told her I have no idea. 1) he wears, almost exclusively, hand my downs from my friend. As he grows out of them, I fill a box and return them for her younger son and pick up a box of clothes her older boy grew out of. So I rarely look at the labels. 2) half the clothes are in European or Australia sizes. I have no idea what those mean, lol.

We had a long weekend here too because of the end of Ramadan. It went by so fast this year.
I had a nice, long chat with my riding coach today. We didn't really get time to hang out during Ramadan and I had missed our talks. We have nothing planned this weekend, nothing is open and it is already stupid hot here. I might ask our friend/neighbor if we can come for a swim, we'll see.

Ugh the childcare tango is tough @cupcait927
Ooh thank you for the heads up @kvruns!

Thursday is my lighter day.  I need to try and rest my hyperextended knee it's always pretty good in the morning after 6-7 hours of rest but even by now it's throbbing.  H gets home from work around noon I'm going to dump the kids on him.  I feel like if I could just have a couple days of feet up the swelling would go away.
  • Anyone else not feeling like working today? i have all the Friday feels right now.

Edited to add:  @ei34, I hope your knee starts feeling better!

@CharmedPam, I had the Friday feels yesterday.  But today, I am having a rare day where I actually feel motivated, lol.

I'm feeling pretty good today.  Mainly because I should have a busy workday in front of me.  I'm waiting on another person for the bulk of it, so I've been working efficiently and been really productive this morning to get other things done as I wait for the BOOM.  That is so much better than yesterday's thumb-twiddling, lol.  I even got my timesheet finished and sent in, which is miraculous for me.  It's due by 3PM and I'm usually squeaking it in 15-30 minutes after that, lol.

I got a $100 check in the mail, so that was a nice surprise.  It was from a survey company that I did a bigger project for last year.  I had actually requested the payout like 3-4 months ago.  It was supposed to take 6-8 weeks.  With the pandemic craziness hitting full force in the meantime, I had forgotten about it.

Morning!  I may look at TCP. DefConn likes their skinny jeans, but I also don't love TCP. Fun fact, mom's first retail management job waaaaayyyyy back in the day was at TCP.

Two recommendations, I read "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle (it took me less than 24 hours to finish it) and watched Hannah Gadsby's "Douglas" on Netflix this week.  Both are amazing.

    Prudie day.

Why don’t people like TCP? Expectant Moms (i.e. me!) need to know these things!

H’s coworker just dropped off like 4 bins of baby/toddler clothes and it’s seriously the nicest thing ever. We haven’t really done any shopping and this was so nice.

Things are fine otherwise; work is tough this week. My boss is getting weird about a project one of my folks are on and asking all about it over messenger. Like why it’s not moving quicker, etc even though the main person was out and got pulled into work on something else in the meantime. I’m just over this level of questioning via chat.

    And awesome aunts like me!

i literally have 2 shirts each in TCP’s cart for my “kids”.

  • I find TCP sizing to be slightly wonky and the quality isn't the greatest.  But for the price, it's worth it buy pieces on super clearance.  My kids have *always* been hard on clothes and shoes.  The only things that have held up well enough to pass on are Nike and Under Armour stuff, especially hoodies.
  • Work today. I’m over the week. I definitely have Friday vibes for sure. Yesterday was an annoying day at work.

I’m trying to come up with stuff to get done on the weekend to keep busy and avoid getting sucked into TV or something else equally unproductive.  There is a donation center near my work and it’s finally open again so I can drop stuff off if I go through stuff.

FI hurt his neck weight lifting the other day and he has been annoying me ever since. I know I should feel more sympathetic but a FI stuck at home without the ability to do his two a day work outs to keep from going stir crazy is a lot to handle. I’m hoping it heals soon. We also have to take Jack to the vet today. He was marginally better but I’m not a vet and I think after five days of treatment he should almost be back to normal. So that’s on the agenda for today too. Ugh

I have some friends who don't like TCP because it is mostly shirts with sayings on them and some are kind of the bratty type sayings.

I have stuff from there and bought some today with the link I shared. I think it is fine if you find good sales but a lot of their stuff is overpriced for the quality IMO

it is worth it for the super sale priced stuff. Just wouldn't spend full price on their stuff. I've bought stuff from there for years for my niece and get B some when I find it really cheap

It’s so tough Cupcait! The baby isn’t here yet and I’m worried about it. We were going to do daycare, but now it’s covid we’ve decided against it. My mom has offered to full/time nanny for us so we’re hoping that will work for a while.

Yeah, the sayings are annoying.  Especially if I (well, DefConn) like the image otherwise.  Not everything needs words.
  • Sorry this is kind of random, lol.  But all the talk about amazing seasonal sales reminded me.

When I was in jr. high, we went on a summer family trip to visit my aunt/uncle/cousins in Montana.  Then the whole gang went up to Edmonton and Lake Louise.  At the time, Edmonton had the biggest mall in the world.  Let me tell you, as a 12-year-old girl, that was my jam!

I was even more excited when I saw the insanely cheap prices on summer clothes.  I was buying shirts left and right for $1-$3.  Shorts/dresses for under $10.  Yeah, these were mid 80s prices, but it was still dirt cheap.

Plus, I lived in a So. CA beach town back then, so I could wear those clothes almost year round.

Work is finally less busy!  I may be able to post more regularly.  The heat has been crazy here, and today it is  raining, so I am much happier.  I'm one of these weird people that would love summer more if it was in the 17-23 C (62-74 F) range the entire time.  Get up to 24 and I'm no longer a happy camper.

My bunnies have been super cute lately.  They just sleep in the shade all day.  And my dog is closer and closer to being recovered - it's just a matter now of taking her off her medication in a way that doesn't have bad withdrawal symptoms.  She is getting fed four times a day now (broke up her breakfast and supper into two) and she is loving that.  It makes her stomach less upset.

As I have no kids, I don't have too intimate a knowledge on kids clothing, but I've discussed with my sister my dislike of sayings on children's clothing.  Sometimes they are funny, but so often they make me uncomfortable.

@kerbohl I would adore a 17-23 C summer too (keep posting Celsius temps... <-- that sentence made me feel smarter lol)
    @MissKittyDanger happy birthday to BabyKitten!

I like TCP sale events...I just grabbed some $3 and $4 tshirts and shorts, they'll be nice to have for the summer when there's lots of water play and sunscreen splatters and sand and ice pop messes and they go through like 4 outfits a day.  I really like their dress clothes but wait for sales as well- my daughters' Easter dresses were originally $40something but I waited until they were $17 each before pouncing.  (That they ended up wearing in our backyard and nowhere else...).  For everyday clothes, I go mostly with Cat & Jack (Target), Old Navy, Carters/Osh Kosh and Hanna Andersen.  And Lands End for outerwear.
  • @charlotte989875 re: baby clothes - I love Cat & Jack clothes and Cloud Island from Target. The Cloud Island jammies and the onesies are super cute and really nice quality. Old Navy has been a hit too - just wait until they have a sale though because sometimes the stuff is a little pricey for what it is and how long they'll actually wear it. H&M has cute baby clothes but I haven't bought anything because the sizing charts are wonky.

That's so nice that your mom is going to nanny FT for you! My MIL would do it full time but she owns her own cleaning business and her clients on Th/F make her the majority of her money for the month so she can't quit those yet. I'm just happy she can do it M-W.

    Got stuck in the box

@ei34 Hanna Andersson stuff is really cute! i'm too cheap for it but wish I wasn't.
  • Hanna Andersoon sales make their products affordable.   The pajama sales and end of season sales are great.   The quality of their long johns is fantastic and superior to most I've seen for kids.

Once my LO isn't outgrowing clothes every few weeks, I want to get Hanna Andersson clothes for her. Everyone raves about their clothes in my due date FB group.
  • Update;  Hmmm.  All that work I'm waiting for still hasn't come.  I'm actually pretty surprised because the engineer was the one who promised Site last night that we'd get all these packages to them today.  I even warned him this morning, I could possibly do that, but it depended on how fast he could get the orders to me.  It's early afternoon and I still don't have any.

At this point, I'll probably have to call on my back-up person to help.  Which I'm not thrilled about, because she's the one I've previously complained about having to share my work with, even though I didn't usually need her help anymore.  And she was also using that to charge LOTS of time for work we didn't actually have.  Between some guidance to her from the Big Boss (I don't think it was anything negative) and us coming back to the office, I've been able to take my department back and do the work myself.

I kinda feel guilty because I appreciate her help when I need it.  I really do.  But I'm happier and it goes more smoothly when work is slow enough I can just do it myself.  And that's what's driving me a little nuts, too!  There isn't much work on this project now.  There is no reason I couldn't do it myself if it was spread out or I was given more time.  Except, instead, it's coming in a huge chunk this afternoon.  And they prefer it all to go back out today also ((throwing up hands)).

  • Today is killing me. My stupid excel was giving me an error yesterday. I waited around for like 6 hours for help desk to screw around, and then eventually give up. Then with some additional google and a little trial and error I fixed it myself in about an hour. Lesson learned, do not bother with help desk.

Today is my oldest nephew's 6th birthday. I can't believe how big he's getting. So we're going to stop by and wave after work, which means I need to finish all the crap from yesterday by 5:00. It's not looking good.
  • Kiddo clothing suggested by my mom group
    - Hanna Aanderson
    - Cat & Jack
    - Old Navy
    - Gap
