Mid-June Monday

How was the weekend?

Ours didn't go as planned, but that actually was OK. DH's cousin reached out Thursday and said her dog was sick and they probably weren't coming.

DH pulled his calf Thursday night playing in the yard with DefConn.  It was ridiculously swollen.  DH has had a few other foot/leg injury issues and we bought crutches for one of them. So we busted those bad boys out.

Friday, I still took the day off.  DH still went to work, all hobbled.  DefConn and I did some shopping and stopped into have lunch with my dad because we were in his neighborhood. I basically bought a mini-rehab for DH: biofreeze, heating pad, ice packs, ace bandages, etc.  The evening was low-key, we ordered take-out and just hung out.

Saturday, DH worked all day.  He's got another audit this week.  Sunday, DH worked some more, we ran a few errands, and then we went to dad's for dinner with my sister, BIL, and foster nephew.

It was quite nice to have slow weekend with canceled plans. The weather was amazing.

Re: Mid-June Monday

  • Weekend was decent.

Saturday we went out on the boat for a river ride and then had pizza and a movie night in front of the TV with the kids (watched Brave).  Then Sunday after TV mass I headed to my parents.   They were OK and it was sad to see my dad just not in the same shape but he's better than I expected.   I took legal documents home and my BIL is going to analyze them to tell me what they really say.

While I was out the kiddos went fishing and Chiquito caught his first fish!  He was SO EXCITED that he hooked a striper and nearly brought it in the boat but fishy bit the line.  Had dinner with the ILs outside and then off to bed.

Today we meet the tutor for Chiquito and I need to tidy up or she's going to think I have people who eat off the floor.
  • That sucks for DH @mrsconn23. I tore my calf muscle almost 2 years ago and it sucked! It took forever (okay really like 4 weeks) for the swelling to go down and to feel somewhat better. I’ve rarely had an injury linger like that did! I hope his recovery is better than mine was!

Weekends have turned into full time home projects. Anytime we’re not working we’re working on the house/getting things ready. Our house looks like a cross between a construction site and an Amazon Warehouse. My Sister and mother in law have both sent out our registry to family since we had to cancel our shower so people are now shipping tons of stuff to our house (awesome) but because we’re not finished with the nursery there’s no where for all the stuff to go (not awesome). One day my house will look normal. I hope.
  • The weekend was lovely weather.  We went for a socially distanced walk with the in-laws.  Hubby has been struggling though - he is a homebody to begin with, so he's leaning more on the side of completely isolating until everything is completely blown over.  Even the walk put him on edge because the dog was getting too close to my in-laws.  So I am thinking we won't be doing that again for a while.

I have a neighbour that doesn't like me that called by-law on me, so I spent five minutes fixing what they were complaining about.  The by-law officer who came to explain the situation even said that it was a bit ridiculous, and that it wasn't actually a problem but because someone complained I had to essentially "pretend" to do something about it.  Now I will wait until the next ridiculous thing they complain about.

@mrsconn23 hope your H feels better soon!  @cupcait927 yay for the solo time!

My kids' reunion with my parents was glorious.  We all really needed it.  The pool was fun too.  It's cooling off this week but we may visit again one day this week, and after that I'm going to use baby steps with H to try and work my siblings and nieces/baby nephew into our quarantine bubble too.
My son had a routine hearing test with his ENT doctor early this morning and he had a decline in his affected ear for the first time, his hearing percentage has inched up a bit since birth.  The doctor said it's uncommon but not medically rare, but I'm a bit shaken up.  For the immediate future he's going to begin wearing his hearing aid again, the one he'd worn as a toddler when his hearing was the same percentage as it is now.  With plans for more testing/a different aid within the next few weeks.  His sessions with his school Speech Therapist end this week but I'm hiring one for the summer (even though virtual therapy hasn't been going great).
  • Weekend was good.
    BabyKitten slept over at my mum's place Friday night, we got some stuff done and watched Deadpool 2 {if you've seen 1st, watch the 2nd - so funny!}

I got a potty training book "Oh Crap! Potty Training" because I think we're close to needing to start.

Sunday we went to IL's place. It was little nerve wracking with BabyKitten's unknown allergies, but we did everything we could to keep her safe - I ate last because out of all the food, mine was most likely to have sesame in it. Since that's highest likely allergen, we're super vigilant on it.

Today is back to work, and I've done some tidying around my area while waiting for emails. I told M I'd work on some stuff in the yard, and I did some but idk how much I'll get done since we've got an on-coming heatwave ...
  • I am annoyed. Last week I finally broke out of my quarantine bubble and did a hike and lunch with FSIL. On Monday she became sick with what seemed like a straight forward case of strep throat. But then last night she mentioned to me that she’d had her fever for a week and she was finally getting her taste and smell back. She did not mention the loss of taste and smell before. So I had to call off of work and now I’m going to get tested. Ughhhh

I'm sorry to hear that. Best wishes that you test negative!
  • Not a bad weekend, just too busy.

Friday I was actually feeling a bit sick - woke up with a migraine. When I got to work that day, I discovered that my bosses had been putting pressure on me to complete a tax return for a client who had failed to provide 18 necessary items. So I was feeling crabby and sick the rest of the day. It was definitely not a productive day for me.

Saturday I was feeling better, just extremely busy with a lot of different things going on. Yesterday at least was more restful.

Now I'm back at work and feeling bored. At least the Supreme Court ruled the right way for once.
  • @levioosa that's some major bullshit on her part. Fingers crossed your test comes back negative.
  • My weekend was relaxing and I caught up on sleep.  On my way home from work on Fri., I stopped at a new Mediterranean place (casual take-out, not a restaurant) and picked up pitas to try.  Both my H and I thought they were good, which is extra great because this place is really convenient to my drive home from work.

We also went out to a restaurant on Sat. night!  The first time since March 16th.  Though once we got there, I don't think I'm going to count it as a restaurant experience, lol.  It's normally indoor and outdoor seating, with servers.  But it was outdoor seating only and no servers, just an order window and a pick-up area.  On top of that, the food was mediocre.  It was a place we had been wanting to try, but will not be returning.  Oh well!  It was at least a nice day to be eating outside and it was also nice to be out and about.

Though I'm, yet again, dismayed at how irresponsible people are being.  One of the other tables had two adults and 8 teenaged boys.  Since I can't imagine anyone adopting 8 boys of around the same age, lol, looks like that was a mix of members from up to 8 households going on there.

Woo-hoo!  I got my first FEMA check in the mail on Sat.  I mentioned it in a post a week or two ago but, apparently I've been overpaying my flood insurance by $225 for the last four years.  I was able to get it fixed before I paid this year's bill.  But previous years were going to take a little longer.  So I'm surprised I got one of the checks that fast, though I'm also surprised they are processing each year separately instead of as a "batch".  My agent sent all the requests in at the same time, so hopefully the other three checks will be trickling their way over to me within the next 1-2 weeks.

No!! That’s bullshit I’d be so pissed! Really hope you’re all right.
  • Great weekend here. Friday we finished putting together the dining room table. I'll post photos shortly, but I'm in love. I just need to change the chandelier and get some artwork and that room will be done. Saturday we got up early and went for a hike, then moved around some of the furniture that had been temporarily camped in the dining room, which mostly meant rearranging my office, ran a few errands and played zoom trivia with some friends. Yesterday we rented a pontoon on the lake. It's the lake where they film Ozarks, so we rode past the restaurant that they use as the Blue Cat Lodge. Today, I'm lightly sunburnt and so tired.

It was also an interesting weekend here. There was another police killing and a Wendy's burned down. I was supposed to go protest today, but between heightened emotions, rain and the ever-present covid risk, I might stay home.

In good news, the Supreme Court released a ruling this morning preventing companies from discriminating against LGBT+ employees. I haven't seen the opinion yet, but I'm reminded of how important the supreme court is in this election.
I was a little surprised it was Gorsuch who authored the opinion.
  • Weekend was OK.  Friday I just felt off.  Not really sick but not my usual.  DH ordered pizza for supper and we hung out and watch Netflix.

Saturday we hung out at home.  I went to a funeral visitation in the afternoon.  My childhood bff's dad passed.  It was a little weird with everyone wearing masks and social distancing, but it was good to see her and her brothers.  Turns out my DH worked with her oldest brother back in the day.  It's a small world.

When I got back from the funeral home, my new steam mop had arrived from Amazon.  I put it together and attacked my kitchen and bathroom floors.  OMG it worked so well.  There was hair spray residue on my bathroom vinyl and it took that right up.  I love it!

Sunday we did recliner church, did some laundry and cleaning.  We grilled out as the weather was beautiful.

Back to work today.  Looks like I may be WFH until at least September.  The plan is to close the floor I work on for the summer to conserve costs.  Although I didn't care for it at first, WFH has grown on me and I really like it now.  I do miss the social interaction but it's great to have no commute, wear what's comfortable and not do hair and make up.

So she had a fever and you two went hiking?

That's a shit move even if there ISN'T a global pandemic!  In this situation it's baffling.

People are the worst. In my town I’d say 80% have given up on masks and social distancing now that patios are open. We walk to get ice cream every Sunday and all the employees are great about sanitizing and masks, and H and I were the only ones there with masks on. I was so pissed.

OMG - I can't believe she went hiking with you and didn't say anything!!  She had classic symptoms. I hope your test is negative.

I'm trying to decide what I think of it. I guess it makes sense to have a conservative write it when the opinion comes from such a strict constructionist place. Maybe he wrote it symbolically to assert the court's independence from the executive?

This is not ok, not at all. I will fully support you in being well beyond annoyed, especially if you test positive.

ETA, but crossing fingers that it doesn't come to that.
  • We got back from my parents house yesterday.  It was incredible to have help with the babe for over a week and get work done (and just see my parents!).  I miss them already.  My IL's have been bitching to SIL's for a week about how it's not fair that we visited my parents and only did social distance visits with them a couple times.   They're annoying and I dont' have the energy to fight with them about stuff so we'll just continue to play it by ear on when we visit them.

@levioosa I am sorry that your SIL was so irresponsible - I would be livid and I hope your test comes back negative.

I had something like this happen for one of my rental houses.  Except it's not in a planned community with an HOA.  The neighbor called the city's code enforcement.  For what?  We don't know.  The officer couldn't tell us, which we thought was weird.  He couldn't tell us who it was either, but we knew.

The officer was sheepish/apologetic and let it "slip"...I'm sure on purpose...that this complaint came from someone who calls them all the time about everybody on the block.  But, since a call was made, he has to come out and asked if it was okay if he walked around the outside of the house.  We gave our permission and nothing came of it.

One of the neighbors has really erratic behavior.  A couple months after we bought the house, my H was over there doing some yard work.  That guy came out screaming incoherently.  My H couldn't understand most of what he was saying.  Something about he wanted us to take the backyard tree down, except neither the roots nor the branches encroach on his property at all (shrug).  When we go over to that property, sometimes he waves and says a friendly "hi".  Sometimes he angrily screams at us for no reason.  I also witnessed him screaming at some children to "stay away from his property".  They were just walking down the sidewalk.  They weren't on his property, they weren't doing anything!

Then, after my tenant there moved out, we decided to redo the flooring and the kitchen.  On the very first day we started demolition and had some of the debris on our driveway...before trash pick-up had even happened...someone called code enforcement again.  I'm sure it was that guy.  He is such a jerk and I can't stand him.

Thanks everyone. We hiked Saturday and Sunday last week. Sunday she was a little fatigued and had a HA, but we figured it was a combo of dehydration and hiking 15 miles the day before. Then Monday morning she had a fever and sore throat and went to urgent care. They didn’t swab her when she asked and told her it was just strep throat after doing a strep test. Then on Wednesday she lost her taste and smell. We went hiking yesterday and when we got dinner she mentioned finally getting her sense of taste and smell back and it was like a record scratch. Then she started telling me more symptoms and I was like wtf. There’s no way I would have met up with her if I’d know about all of that. And I straight up asked her what symptoms she’d had. As of yesterday she told me she hadn’t had a fever for several days and that her throat had gotten better after taking the antibiotics. Turns out she’d had a fever for a week with the other symptoms. I don’t think she was being malicious or anything. But just wtf. We got into an argument last night when I confronted her about it. And what pissed me off was her FI was like “yeah, I knew she probably had COVID.” So then why tf wouldn’t you say something?! I made her call off work and make an appointment to get tested. And I called off work and am getting tested today.
I'm sure plenty of people aren't malicious.   And my anger on your behalf is with the feeling that she's just so out of it and did not think.
