Happy birthday to your H @short+sassy

Schools re-opening is so hard.  Trump has obviously made it even more controversial.  We don't start until after Labor Day so there's time to make decisions, although all schools have to submit their plans to the Governor soon.  It's so school and student specific that there just isn't a one-size-fits-all solution.  I just hope that the district I work in and my kids' district have similar plans- in a perfect world, if it's a in-person/virtual hybrid, I'd be home the same days my kids are.  And they'd all be home the same days.  H is an essential employee and can't WFH.  I'm pretty stressed about it all.

Yeah.   Here in CT the rule is that the kids are supposed to be in their cohort and 6 feet apart at all times.

How that is going to work in hallways when my oldest switches classes or at dismissal is BEYOND me.  I did a quick # crunch and if they stay 6 feet apart then a class of 20 needs to be 120 feet long in line!!

My guess without stating is that this is going to need to be somewhat of a hybrid system.
  • For schools, they're doing a hybrid thing in Louisiana.  But it's unified and across the board for all public schools.  I'm not sure about private schools.

I don't have kiddos, so I don't remember all the details.  But younger children (K-4) need to be in the classroom.  Later elementary/jr. high (5-8) will have a choice of all classroom or part classroom/part online learning.  I think high school kids and their parents can choose part classroom/part online or all online.

With, of course, all of that subject to change depending on what happens with the virus and outbreaks.

School starts pretty early here.  I'm guessing the second week of August.  So yeah, we're already only about a month out from that.

Side note - we are potty training this month.

Downside is we can't go anywhere for awhile

Upside is getting a new couch sooner than originally planned lmao!
Dresses!  Put her in dresses if you need to be outside!   That was the BEST thing about having a girl PTing in the summer.
M is with her first week, so I did suggest dresses or even some of her long tshirts if he wants to be in the backyard {water table} some days :)

Kinda sucks we have to be home but I've told MIL and my mum they can come visit us lol
It's gonna be a disaster on the 27th because she has to be at my mum's place since I have dr appt but I'm hoping we're in a better spot since it's week 2
I mean people potty train all the time and still leave the house? I don’t really get why you’d need to not leave for two weeks? All of my friends have their kids in day care and until this shut down just staying home for more than a weekend was not an option.
Often parents I know usually do it when they have at least a week. It's to stay close to potty because the child is still learning the cues, as are you.

Honestly, it's just easier for us because if she pees on the floor at our house idc but at MIL or my mum's. They've been thru it sure but idk ...

When my bro was potty training my nephew he told us not to visit that week.  It was going to be just them.  I’m sure they left the house... but they wanted to focus on the training for at least a week without distractions.

  • Eons ago when I was potty training my kids, I didn't have an option not to leave the house. I just figured it out (don't remember exactly how) but I know it didn't all happen in a week - especially with the boys. DD trained very quickly but she was the first and had all our attention on her when needed. You do what you can do.
