Tired TUESDAY

@charlotte989875 I just realized you're at the 4 month mark - that sleep regression is no joke. I had B sleeping well and then the 4 month regression blew it all out of the water and it was over a month before I got him back on track with hard core sleep training because i was falling apart.

DS is home for the rest of the week due to exposure. It was a teacher in his room - a sub I think - but the last date of exposure was Mon or Tues last week so thankfully only home the rest of this week.

Re: Tired TUESDAY

  • Thanks @kvruns! He just turned 4 months last week so I’m pretty sure that’s what this is. He was a lot better last nigh. I need to start looking into sleep training; we both have some time off over the next few weeks for the holidays so that might be the right time to try it.
  • Sleep training was such a blessing even though it is hard. Different methods to try to keep with your comfort level on "strategy"
  • @charlotte989875 disregard question on other post. 4m suuuccckkkksssss lol but also could be a new skill coming. BK rolled and was able to belly laugh around 4m - so keep an eye out for that.
That shit sneaks up on you like you wouldn't believe.

So we did the portobello wellingtons.
Best part was the puff pastry :( Was not a fan and I'm mildly annoyed.

Tonight I'm trying a new crockpot chicken recipe. Super simple but I have my doubts somehow. M thinks the chicken looked freezer burnt but it was fine this morning so idk.

    Lol okay fun story time!
We have basically a diy barrier in our living room that originally was to prevent BK from leaving living room but now it's just to slow her down since she can breach it.
Since our house is made weird, even without cats we wouldn't be able to just purchase a baby gate. M is building one.

SO! BK loves chips. We have a terrible habit of just leaving the bag on the floor before we go to bed, so it's in BK's reach.
This morning, she saw a bag {empty} on the couch that M hadn't tossed yet. M says "no chips. Empty"
She HOPS over the barrier {it's a tote bin} and leaves. Just as we're getting up, we hear here in the friggin chip bag in the kitchen. THEN she returns with 2 handfuls of chips and comes back into the living room.

M and I were just face palming this. It's our fault for leaving the chips out but omg!

I had to explain to daycare why she smelt like ketchup chips ...
  • My new cube is fairly devoid of electrical outlets.  I just sent IT a request to get a long extension cord so I can plug my Keurig in, ie essential office equipment.  I had to resort to "break room coffee" yesterday (shudder) and will probably have to do the same today, lol.

Other than that, not much else going on.  Last week was overwhelming, personally and professionally.  I feel like I am finally catching up some.
I’d argue you’re keeping others safe by staying at your cube with the keurig and not going into the break room. 😂😂
    Good point, lol!

One of my coworkers had a great idea that I have implemented in my new cube.  I'm using a thumbtack as a "hook" for my mask.  Noticeable and so easy to grab, anytime I'm leaving my cube.

  • Not much going on today.  I do have to go out and pick up some medicine for my dad.  I do also need to get to Shoprite, so I may take advantage of a slow work day to get it all done at the same time.  I will also need to get over to BJs so I can buy some finger foods, Christmas Day will be apps all day for us!

I have been loving pinterest for having so many "mask hacks" - ways to store and remind are prob my fave!
M & I keep one on ourselves constantly {M in car, mine in my purse} but we have a bunch at the front door in case we need to swap for cleaning or someone comes and needs one
  • Fuckin' Tuesday.

DefConn's eyes are still struggling, even with glasses, so he's being referred to a specialist.  No idea what any of this means (DH took him to his appt). Trying not to worry too much until we get him into a specialist and see what they say.  But this is just so...2020.  *sigh*

I *need* to stop procrastinating about wrapping.

    Other than that, SSDD.
  • I have a corrugated fortress I am building around my desk area here.  If I don't start wrapping and stashing I'm not going to sleep Christmas Eve.

In controversy in town there's a local dude who owns a gun store and has a mounted sign on his property about how Democrats stole the election.  It's a horrible message and near the elementary school and our first selectman has weighed in that he doesn't like it either and will look to the town attorneys but there isn't much we can do.

You should see how many locals are saying, "Well, the sign is the truth!"

It's frustrating to say the least at both how many people want to defend this butthurt hate speech and also want to refuse to see facts.
  • @mrsconn23 it's good he's seeing a specialist. Hopefully it's nothing, but fx!
  • SSDD here. I'm taking solace that this is my last work Tuesday of the year. All these packages showed up yesterday, so I think I have almost everything for Christmas. Tonight I'm hoping to open and wrap everything. I think H and I are getting each other new fitness trackers, but neither of us care if we actually get to open them on the 25th. I love my garmin, but it's 4 years old and won't hold a charge for very long. He sent me a bunch of links yesterday, so I'm going to comparison shop during conference calls.

Has anyone ever made hot chocolate bombs? Sunday is our annual baking day and my sister wants to make them. They look like a giant mess IMHO.

    I made them Saturday!

    https://sugargeekshow.com/recipe/shiny-chocolate-bombs-with-marshmallows/?fbclid=IwAR0VBfdyc00RQqahJ4XTshMQsDN4tCUro4WS1fezx45lz1s44KxDGq6wVFw

    Tips:
-I used the good chocolate.  It was Lindt dark at 70%.  I did NOT use 24oz.  A total of 10.5 oz yielded 6 bombs with some leftover chocolate but not enough for another ball.

-Silicone mold was very helpful.  One cracked on the way out and I added more chocolate to augment the fracture and it helped.  This is what I used:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NG7729L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_vuy1FbR5SM9S3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&fbclid=IwAR2v07ziZ5oDGVZDAq8LN35USMhJ6ZCdAE5qFXlmO7mUw6YK1ilplTNqs-Q

-Use a bristle brush and not silicone brush to move the chocolate up the sides.

-Temp the chocolate.  I found that going over 90 degrees was OK but you definitely want to heat slowly and keep stirring.

-Wear gloves once you have the chocolate out of the molds.

-Rather than pipe the edges with melted chocolate, I found more success by putting a frying pan (i used a cast iron enamel) on super low heat to melt an even edge.  Then do the same for the other side when sealing together.  It makes the chocolate an even edge and melted for better adhesion.

-I'm no pro so I piped chocolate around the edge of the sphere (I have Wilton melting bags in the house and used some of the extra melted chocolate to do it) to help reinforce the edge and then rolled the melted edge in colored sugar (you could sprinkle if you don't mind the mess) and it helped camouflage the imperfections.

-Definitely go w/ the recommended amount of cocoa.  I had one Saturday night and it was PLENTY chocolately and Chiquita agreed!

    They are time consuming.

If you can get your paws on kinder eggs, look up that version. Otherwise it's waiting for chocolate to harden.

Xmas with the IL's this weekend, it should be fun.  H and his siblings decided not to do the usual sibling exchange which is great.  I'm a little terrified that MIL/FIL will go waaaay overboard with presents for G (their only grandchild so far) and we wont' have room to take all the stuff home.  Fingers crossed they actually looked at the list they asked for.
They will. Just roll with it and learn toy rotation also.
We've been minimizing BK's current play things because we know she's getting a sh*t ton of stuff - let new things be new kinda deal before we see what she really likes etc
  • Tired Tuesday is right!
@MissKittyDanger, the best thing about that story is that they were ketchup chips.  The ketchup chip stank breath is real!
@short+sassy, when we came back into the office,
coffee pots and espresso machines were distributed by use too! It’s a real thing!

So I stopped my ipsy subscription and caved and joined fabfitfun. Anyone else have a membership?  I did the annual one because I like the idea of 5 customizable choices out of 8, verses the 3 you get if you go quartetly.  Tiffany Jenkin’s very hilarious review of her winter box on her facebook page made me do it.  Follow her (juggling the jenkins) if you don’t already! She’s weird but funny.

@CharmedPam Mix it with yogurt and I was nearly sick when she was near. I had to apologize for BK stank breath lol I already don't like ketchup chips and this was so much worse lol

edit: love tiffany! She's so real. I caught a video of her on another channel talking about her backstory. It's really .... wow. It's a lot of wow.
  • Made a list / checked it twice and I desperately wish there was somewhere my kids could go for a few hours one day just to knock out wrapping and stocking assembling. Other than school, since that’s when I’m at work 😝 my coworkers and I are all saying we much prefer being in person and it’s wonderful we are but we wouldn’t mind one remote day to get stuff done.

@MyNameIsNot I haven’t made hot cocoa bombs but this weekend is my Christmas baking too!
@Casadena good luck with the gift giving!  The golf set sounds so fun!
  • Casadena We had the problem with the gparents going overboard. I started implementing toys grandparents get can live at their house for the kids when they are there. Funny my mom quickly moved to buying a few things and contributing to the girls college fund. Lol, She hates clutter.

Yes!  The chocolate hardening time is only 10 minutes (each coating gets 5 minutes) but it's a time intensive process to melt, brush on the coating, and there is a bit of precision involved becasue you don't want it to be too heavy or too thin.

Still, I think it was a fun project but I think I spent about 2 hours of my Saturday to make 6.  That is probably why those who sell these are getting upwards of $8 a piece!

Kinder eggs are no longer "contraband" in the US, lol.  They've been widely sold here for (I think) the last 2-3 years.

But I do remember the WW Kinder egg discussion back when they were illegal in the US, lol.  A Canadian WW'er was talking about them and most of us US WW'ers were, "What's a Kinder egg?"  With a few US WW'ers...primarily the ones who live near the border...that were "in the know" and telling stories about how they are delicious but need to be purchased in Canada and "snuck over the border".  Good times, good times.

I was one of the ones who had never heard of a Kinder egg.  And excitedly bought one to try, the first time I saw one in a grocery store, lol.

I saw a hack on tiktok about people using kinder eggs. As long as they're still in one piece, you can put the mix in the center, melt edges with lighter and hold together. Then ready for hot chocolate.

I like them in theory but I cannot do heated milk. It's gross.
  • I like my hot chocolte in the packets still.  Am I weird? I think kinder eggs were banned because the toys in them were chocking hazards, right?

This is my MIL 100% and we will have to try that tactic if it gets too out of control.  she will insist that he needs more toys, something different, etc. but would go nuts if we decided to leave them at her house, lol.

Yeah - if you can't do cocoa w/ milk don't do them.

@short+sassy the "real" kinder eggs are still not legal in the US.  Those sold in Canada have a different to that is loose.  But the overall effect is the same.

Do they make Kinder eggs with dark chocolate?  That's why I liked the ones I made and I was able to make them with dark chocolate vs. milk.
  • Soo, yesterday I had to sit in a meeting with the coworker that I had an unpleasant interaction with.  At this point, she has called me dark hearted, nasty, and then added bully.  None of which is true; she just has her own issues going on and I'm the target of her ire now that she's been shot down by everyone else.  It got a bit under my skin this morning and I had to have another meeting about that.  I'm just worn out.  My boss was worried that I would just want to go back to paralegal and I said I had already considered that, but no.  I like what I'm doing and working on and I don't want to give it up.  This coworker isn't going to defeat me on this.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I'm really freaking tired for some reason.  This dark all the time is messing with me.

Not that I've seen but honestly I've never looked.
If they do, I would imagine it's only done over holiday season - likely easter
  • I like my hot chocolte in the packets still.  Am I weird? I think kinder eggs were banned because the toys in them were chocking hazards, right?
Yes, that is why they were originally illegal in the US.  I THINK they do the packaging differently for the US Kinder eggs.  I think the little plastic toy is sectioned off by itself into half the egg and the other half is just the chocolate/creamy stuff.  But it's been a long time since I bought one, so it is possible I am remembering wrong.

They also have Kinder candy bars...candy-bar shaped with chocolate covered "pockets" holding the creamy stuff...and no toy at all.  Definitely a better value, if you don't need to worry about a child having a potential meltdown because they aren't getting a toy, lol.
