Festive Friday

Re: Festive Friday

  • @VarunaTT - are ceiling fans an option for you?  With high ceilings, much of your heat could be rising above your living area.  A fan would circulate that warmer air down where you are.  In our apartment, they were willing to install if we purchased the fans but we needed to leave them when we vacate.

@VarunaTT that does seem like a good deal. Are there any smaller units in the complex that would have the same amenities but cost less per month?
I have lived in one of the smaller units before, this is my 2nd place there.

All of the amenities would be the same except for the massive bathtub that I adore.  And mostly still the same situation of cost (the smaller ones start at $750 now) and lose a lot of square footage.  I also like my kitchen and closet better than most of the smaller ones as well.

The other nice thing is that I've never once had my rent raised.  And I'm only paying $.83/sq foot, while other places in town are about $1.10/sq foot.  And most of them put the 3% cost of living raise every year.  I don't have to make any firm decisions until May, but realistically I'll be staying here for at least another year.
  • I totally felt that @MissKittyDanger!

I am excited that this year I think Chiquita will polish my silver so we can serve the green beans with a lid on them and the table will look suuuuper pretty.

I only have one in the living room and it does help in there.  I've considered asking if they would put another one.  I think they probably would. Right now we're on "emergency maintenance" so I'm not quite sure when they would do it.  Stupid freaking covid.  Ruining everything!!!

And thanks, all. I've learned some things about myself that I didn't really know.  It wasn't all terrible and it was really just this last year that things started downhill, but boy did it roll down fast.

I just told M about that astrology Christmas star thing, @short+sassy, because he loves that kinda stuff and he said “I know. I thought I told you about this?”

oops.  Sometimes I block you out if we’re not talking about me.

That is a FANtastic price, @VarunaTT.  I remember pics of your place when you first moved in - and LOVE!

  • V, just popping in after forever. It sounds like you are taking care of yourself and I wish you all the best in the new year.

How is everyone doing? 45 minutes until I get to roll out of this place for 2 weeks.
HIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's so good to "see" you!!!  How're things with you?  I think about you often.
  • I'm good. I adopted a baby last year. She just turned 1. My Sweet pea. I'm just trying not to get the Rona at my school and she keeps me busy.

I miss our old days here. Boo..... Y'all, kept me sane in this place.
WOMAN I WAS JUST WONDERING IF YOU FINALLY GOT YOUR BABY!!  YAY!!!  I'm so glad for you being a mother!!!

I don't even have an appropriate gif for how much I just squee'd out loud in my office!!!
  • Congrats @NOLABridesmaid!  So happy for you!

  • @short+sassy  pro tip, never get hand-me-downs unless you have a dryer. I know this now lol
Yes!  You had mentioned you all don't have a dryer.  Out of curiosity, why not?  Do you have the hook up for one?
LOL! Okay so semi-long story but
TL;DR we have a dryer but not hooked up

For years we lived in apartments - ie; pay each load - so instead of wasting my money when M & I were struggling, we didn't use a dryer and used a clothes rack.

    Then when we moved into our house, our washer stopped working {agitator literally stopped mid-cycle}
Got a gently used washer/dryer from my uncles because when they moved, the place had a new washer/dryer.

Have we hooked up the new dryer? No.
Has it been sitting in our basement for nearly 4yrs? Yes.

Am I getting M to hook it up once the diy baby gate is made? 1000% yes
  • Whoever talked about broken washers on Friday, ours stopped draining over the weekend.

Thankfully H took it apart and found a bent collar stay in the drain pipe but it was looking dark for a few hours

That was me!  Now I feel like I jinxed you, lol.  I'm glad your H was able to DIY it and get it fixed.

@NOLABridesmaid, congrats on the baby!  That is really exciting news.

  • @VarunaTT, From what you describe about the cost of your apartment, as opposed to the alternatives, it makes the most economical sense to stay.  Enjoy the extra square footage and big tub!

As for more heat, here are some options that are kind of along the same thought as space heaters, but will keep the whole room warm.  I use the wall one/portable one/and window unit one in some of my rentals that don't have HVAC.  No one has every complained about the heat.  Then again, only my own home has ceilings that are higher than the standard 9'.

    • Window unit with a/c and heat - I don't know how high up you are floor-wise, but don't use this in a room if it only has one other egress, in case of fire.  $400-$600 depending on the size you get.  Check with your property management (PM) to see if they will install it for you or are okay with you handling the installation.
    • Portable a/c and heat -- still needs to vent out a window, but can be pulled out in a few seconds if there is a fire.  I think these run $450-$600.  The installation is quick and easy, you could do it yourself.
    • Wall heater -- Here is the Amazon link for the same one I use.  It's $144 and works great.  But your PM company would need to install it or be okay with you hiring an electrician to do it  :  Amazon.com: Stiebel Eltron 074058 120-Volt 1500-Watts Wall Mounted Electric Fan Heater: Home Improvement
    • Search Amazon for "Electric baseboard heater" -- There are a lot of options in the $40-$100 range.  I've never used one, but think it is another good option to supplement heat.  When I researched it before, I think you literally just plug them in.
    • Electric fireplaces with heat.  They are bulkier, but can also be a cute furniture piece and typically have a mantle for knick-knacks or a tv.  I have one in my living room.  They come in a wide range of "looks" and prices.

I am OFF for the rest of the year!!!!  I hadn't used any vacation until Thanksgiving week and am so excited to not think about work for awhile.  Took the babe to his 1 year appointment today and he did well with all FOUR shots and two pricks in his toe.

I'm officially not bringing any food to IL's bc I decided i'm not stressing about it when it won't get eaten anyway.  I'm bringing the baby, that will have to be good enough.

My acne is out of control lately.  I'm sure it's mostly hormonal but OUCH.  My whole face just feels sore.

@VarunaTT I'm so happy for your that you're finally getting some closure. Go easy on yourself and enjoy your neat and tidy apartment :)

@Jen4948 congrats on the new job!  So happy for you!.

Happy holidays to everyone else and good luck with wrapping and getting deliveries
    Thanks @Casadena!
