The appt took three hours!  But the specialist and staff were awesome.  They did a lot of in depth testing.  He has amblyopia (lazy eye, but the doc said he hates that term.  "Your eyes aren't lazy, they just need extra help to work correctly.").  We have a new glasses prescription and a follow up at the end of April.

Doc wasn't too hard on the eyes either.  LOL

    yay!
From our limited experience, there might be extra headaches w/ the new glasses, because they are fixing the 'lazy eye' bit by making the eyes work harder.  So basically, eyestrain.
(It's actually hotly debated when you should purposely make the script 'to weak' and strengthen eyes or whether that impedes kids reading and seeing so you should err the other way.  I just found a good clinic and trust them on this.

Also, FWIW, when we first took the kiddo in for hers (she was only 2, so, night and day) they said that she might need surgery--or patching--or glasses--or nothing.
And at this point, as long as she keeps wearing the correct glasses, in a few years she might not even need glasses (and then again, she might); but surgery and even patching got taken of the table (as long as, per the doc "she doesn't do anything stupid like quit wearing her glasses right now")

I have a ninja blender for smoothies and cuisinart for regular blending. I like both. We have a Cuisinart coffee pot but never do single serve because what is that - lol!

Glad to hear that DefConn's eyes can be corrected with prescription and that doc was easy on the eyes. My surgeon for my hamstring is definitely easy on the eyes son it makes going back for my post op appointments (last one is next week - at least I think it is the last one) easier.

Sick puppy had me up before 4 this morning so I took a long nap this afternoon. I feel better but it is making me drag. H and I were talking about how we need to make a decision. We will most likely tell DS2 so that he can come home to say goodbye. This part of pet ownership sucks. It never gets easier. We will have one one dog left, and I think this will be it. I did start watching Lupin today. I'm hooked.

Honestly, with what I do, people need to be talking to an insurance agent.  I don't think most people really understand this risk assessment they need to be doing when it comes to any sort of insurance and they just go for the cheapest.  Since you can buy it online without talking to anyone, bam! people end up with minimum policy limits and requirements for their state.  No one wants to plan for that catastrophic accident, but they happen.

I've seen so many people who carry no medical payments coverage (it's literally dollars on your policy; I carry a 25K which is abnormally high and I think it's $10, most of the time it's $1-$5K and is maybe $3), no underinsured motorist (meaning that is someone hits you and you are badly injured and they don't have enough insurance coverage for you, your insurance will kick in; I carry $250K and again it's dollars a month), they don't know the difference between comprehensive and liability only, no rental when they're a single vehicle owner, how their insurance carries with their vehicle and/or them, etc.

I'm not quite as familiar with home owners anymore, but my rental policy is also very high limits and I have a few other caveats on it I pay extra for (flooding, my vehicle contents are also covered...a few other things I can't remember).

I loathe Travelers and Shelter.  I think those 2 companies have more things in their policies to screw their own clients than any other company I've ever seen.  State Farm and Allstate are decent middle ones that do seem to treat their customers well (I have State Farm).  Geico and Progressive can be a crap shoot on everything.

For car insurance, I've had Progressive for about 20 years!  I've been really happy with them.  Unfortunately, I have had three cars totaled from accidents during that timeframe (two of them the other driver's fault).  Progressive always gave me high retail blue book value for them.  They're easy to deal with, including for claims.

In fact, for one of those accidents, I had purchased my car from a mom/pop local used car dealership.  At the time, I'd gotten a really good deal and only paid a little more than wholesale (what a dealer could expect to pay at auction) blue book value.  I drove that car for 4 1/2 years before it was totaled in an accident.  Progressive valued my car and paid out $1,000 more than what I had bought it for over 4 years earlier!

I agree with @VarunaTT about carrying medical payments coverage.  It's super cheap.  Even if you have medical insurance, ER visits will at least have a copay.  Or, if you have a high deductible type of plan, you'll have to pay 100% of that ER visit if you haven't met the deductible yet for the year.

For one of those accidents I mentioned, I was taken by ambulance to the ER and discharged a few hours later.  I sent Progressive the hospital/ambulance bills.  They promptly sent direct payments to the providers.  No cost to me, other than the one deductible I would have had to pay anyway for my car damage.  And really convenient because my medical charges were just lumped in and taken care of with the rest of the paperwork for the accident.

Edited to add:  Progressive also has an insurance option for the deductible to be as low as $100.  They also have $250, $500, or $1,000.  I have the $100 deductible because the difference between that and even the $1,000 option was less than $10/month.  And I'm in an area that has extremely high car insurance, due to a higher percentage of uninsured drivers.
