Welp woke up to the terrible news about the overnight mass shooting near the airport at the FedEx facility.  What a sad, sad day and it's awful for those people and their families.  DH works right around that area.

My hair appt was great yesterday.  I got highlights done and some more weight taken off.  I feel so much more spring-y.

Weekend is going to be low-key.  Our friends may come over for dinner tomorrow.  Looking forward to rest and not having too much to do.

I need to make some decisions so I can make an Amazon order.  I have, like, 3 swimsuits in the cart.  I may get them all and return one or two (or all of them if they don't work).

What's up for the weekend?

  • @mrsconn23 - I immediately thought of your DH when I saw the news this morning.  T & Ps for all families involved.

  • I thought of you and @ILoveBeachMusic this morning when I heard the news it’s awful. And in the wake of the release of the CPD footage of the killing it’s just all awful.
  • I just saw the shooting. That's awful. And wholly preventable and absurd, but that's a whole other thing. I was talking to one of my friends a few weeks ago about whatever the last mass shooting was, and she was saying she thought that we were going to see an uptick in violence as people are starting to re-enter society. I fucking hate that she was right.

I'm super excited about this weekend. We rented an Airbnb up in the mountains, so we're heading out as soon as we finish work. I'm really excited to get away for a couple of days.

    @kvruns is also a local.

And yeah, the CPD stuff is horrendous too.

I feel like this week has been full of 'boil over' moments.  I'm worried about this summer.

I have a rare Friday where I don't have any errands or mystery shops to run when I get off work and can go straight home.  It's pouring rain today and most of the weekend, so it will probably wind up being lazy days at home.

We got a pressure washer yesterday.  Mainly for the large awning we have across our porch.  My H tested it on one of our concrete steps and it's such a difference!  I thought the dingier gray with some embedded black areas was what happened with age.  Apparently not, it was just that dirty, lol.  Unfortunately, we can't use it when it is raining, so we can't tackle the awning until next week.

  • same @mrsconn23 and at first I didn't even realize it was here, just thought it was another national story. I had to turn off local news because I hate the constant coverage. I immediately though of a friend who's DH works there but he works day shift so I was comforted for her when I realized it was overnight.

For swimsuits I say buy and return. I've been on a bit of a returning spree with Amazon but I can return to Kohls' that's 5 min from my house so it isn't a big deal.
  • The brother of my sister's co-worker works there and is missing.  No one can locate him.  They won't know if he's one of the 8 until the coroner has a meeting later today.  This is awful.
  • @STARMOON44 good vibes for you!

@mrsconn23 that is so awful. I’m so sorry. *hugs* to everyone in the area who has been affected. This is so preventable it’s infuriating.

  • Had to check the weather for this weekend.
We have a kite, so I may set it up tonight to get outside this weekend. Gonna be decent weather so I'm hopeful.

My coworker and I have been counting about some company calling about a debit machine.
    So far we're 3 calls each {total of 6 calls}
It's annoying because at least 2 were same person. We don't have a debit machine. We don't use them.
    Urg ....
  • Ooh I’ve always been so curious about cool sculpting @levioosa- so the results last? Is it expensive? How often do you do it?  So many questions!
  • YAY Judge.  I'm glad he called him on his shit @climbingsingle.  Enjoy the weekend!!

I get multiple calls a week and tons of mailers for supplemental Medicare insurance.  Been happening since I was 16.

You'd think it would be more cost-effective...even for illegal, scam telemarketing companies...to try and tailor their demographics to people 65+.  Instead of FIFTY YEARS too soon.  But I guess not.

  • @mrsconn23 I can't believe how long it is taking for people to be notified if their loved ones are OK

@climbingsingle I'm glad the judge saw through his BS
  • Omg @climbingsingle, what a douche! Glad the judge saw all that.
@levioosa I have never gotten cool sculpting on my stomach, but the reviews for it were never good so I never looked further.  I have a smart lipo consult on the 1st.  I have had cool sculpting done on my chin, and noticed some results but I probably needed more.  I have all the questions too! Is this your first time?

I forgot my coffee creamer today so I’m drinking black coffee.  Taking small sips isn’t too too bad but I need my creamer, dangnabit.

Yesterday I was looking at some park district fitness classes, they’re cheapest for residents - and right now they’re doing indoor, outdoor, and virtual.  All the classes I wanted to take were virtual.  My friend posts daily on her amazon prime workout vids, which are free, so I don’t know if virtual classes vs. video worouts are any different - but why pay full price for virtuals then?  Does anyone do virtual workouts and can give me some pro’s instead of prime videos?

I watched the press conference.  They have not been able to get in to identify and transport people because evidence collection is still ongoing.  FBI is searching a house, but won't say who's house it is.   They won't confirm it was an employee, or anything about what was going on in the building when it happened.  SO many reporters asked the same questions that they didn't have the answers to or can't disclose yet.

It's so annoying. My coworker yesterday said to take us off their list - we're a bankruptcy company, we don't deal with taking payments by cards.
Apparently they said they will but we're doubtful it'll happen.
  • @CharmedPam what kind of workout are you looking for?

do you have a family member with a similar name that is older? That seems strange for sure. Or anything weird on your credit report as if someone had opened something in your name long ago?

Probably not!  I've had major issues with that even for legit companies.

I did a mystery shop years ago for ITT Tech Institute.  Before I took the shop, it even said in the instructions that all of your personal info would be taken out of ITT's system after the shop was completed.  It wasn't.  I would get 2-4 calls a month inquiring about my signing up.  At first I nicely told them I had absolutely no interest because their program would not work for me at all.  As an aside, it was a completely God awful program because you couldn't transfer credits from other schools and your credits there wouldn't transfer either.  Hence why tons of students got totally screwed over when ITT went belly up.

I asked them not to contact me anymore.  They always said they would remove me off their call list and update my file.  After the first four times of this, then my tone was very angry and I kept telling them to stop harassing me.  All the calls were from the local campus I had visited.  After months of this, I finally called the national headquarters and threatened legal action if they called me even one more time.  It stopped after that.

I used to donate blood at The Blood Center.  I did it for years.  But then they started psycho-calling me.  1-2x a day, every day.  It was automated calls.  I called the local office 3-4 times to stop all the soliciting phone calls to me.  Each time I was told they would.  And the calls would stop for 2-4 weeks.  And then they would start up again.  I finally e-mailed the national headquarters and it stopped after that.

But guess who I haven't donated blood with for over 5 years?  Right.  Them.  I still donate blood, but changed to a different organization.  100% because I don't want to get back on their radar and possibly have the psycho-calls start up again.

This is awful. People are just waiting to find out if it's their loved one. I feel so awful for everyone that is just waiting right now.
  • fun fact, I used to work for ITT HQ @short+sassy  and I visited our LA campuses back in the day. I left a couple years before it closed thankfully but many friends weren't so lucky
  • What an awful shock @mrsconn23. I'm so sorry.

I need to keep today from shaping up like yesterday, a non-accomplishment day. Maybe I needed that yesterday, but I know it isn't good for me.

Oh I hope he is ok! I woke up to the news on the local Chicago station this morning (still here with the grandsons). At first I thought they said Minneapolis and thought that poor city then realized they said Indianapolis! My God when will this all end?

No, nothing like that.  I get AARP mail solicitations also.  Which delights my H...who is 10 years older than me...to no end, lol.

I think my birth year might be wrong on some master database(s), somewhere in the ether.  Because there was one year where I suddenly got tons of birthday cards congratulating me on "turning 65"...then cue information for their Medicare supplement insurance.  It was around my real birthday!  But I was turning 40-something (forget which birthday).  Though that happened only a few years ago.  It doesn't explain the decades before that, lol.

My only other suspicion is, although medical information is supposed to be private, all the crap you buy isn't.  The call I got when I was 16 might have been a one-off.  But when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 20, I subscribed to a diabetes info magazine for a few years.  That was around when the uptick in "over 55, over 65" type of stuff amped up.  90% of people with diabetes have Type II diabetes, where the onset is usually late in life.
