Tuesday!

Re: Tuesday!

  • Congratulations!!

We will have a one year old next week. I can hardly believe it. Is it normal to be emotional? I don’t know why o feel like this, but we went through so much in her first year of life and I loved almost every second.

We’re still waiting to hear back about the academia position.  No news is good news and apparently academia moves very slow? I hate this 😩

Our family photos came back and Madison smiled in approximately 4 pictures. I don’t normally post my husband in here, but he’s okay with it because they are  such stinking cute photos 😍
Wow this is a very attractive family!

    those are gorgeous photos @NBSquared2017
  • Yay @kvruns I’m so so happy for you and Baby B!!!!
  • @NBSquared2017 those are great pictures! Her smile in the first picture is perfect but I actually love her face in the second one too. You have a wonderful looking family. 💕💕

@kvruns Congratulations! If it were me, I would probably just replace the carpet in the bedrooms that needs to be done and take my time deciding the rest.

@VarunaTT I am probably like your aunt. I have been called a Nay-sayer in the past, lol. I just like to be sure that people have realistic expectations before jumping into a situation. Not because I don't want you to do it, I just want you to be prepared, it comes from a place of love.

Nothing new here. 13 days until we leave and I haven't started packing yet. I need to go downtown to get these beaded slippers my mom saw when she was here, 2 years ago, and hasn't stopped thinking about since. I am just so lazy, lol.
  • Congratulations @kvruns! Do you feel comfortable giving me hints about where you will be? I know the market around here is crazy!!! I would do the carpet in the bedrooms and LVP in the living areas later if you can't swing it now. LVP will really be better for resale (I know you aren't thinking about that now) and it wears great. I personally hate carpet and just have it in the finished areas of our basement because it would be too cold in the winter with LVP. Otherwise, I would have it down there (I still might in the exercise room).

OMG @NBSquared2017 you have a gorgeous family and Madison's smile is just precious! Happy Birthday to your darling little girl!

I should clarify on the carpet - the carpet in the hallway and living room are not great, definitely can see foot traffic marks so it seems like I should replace it at the same time, especially so I don't have 2 different carpets butting up to each other from bedroom to hallway.

I'm weird and like carpet bc I think it is easier to keep clean. My hardwoods in my 1st house were always a pain. The kitchen and entryway current have linoleum (and 2 different ones) which I can live with for a while even though I dont like it bc really it is just me and B.

I know that one well.  DH used to work right off there and it was how we got to my sister's old house.

Everyone is different. I had three children at home and 2-3 dogs at a time so for me carpet was horrible to keep clean. Give me a swiffer and a steam mop and LVP and hardwood (no steam mop there) are a breeze. Wow that is on the other end of town! Good luck with all your decisions about the house. I'm so glad you got one where you wanted it.
  • Are you going to be in the Gwood or Whiteland district @kvruns

I think it's good to have reality checking friends.  Dreams are big and sometimes head can get caught in the clouds.  She just does this to me all the time.  I've called her out on it before; I really just need to not tell her things.  I still hold a small chip that when I was going through an incredibly difficult time running Pride the last year, she called me and said I was complaining too much on FB.  I told her to unfollow or unfriend me then, my FB wasn't for her.

We have very similar personalities, but our core desires/pushes are very different and sometimes they grate against each other.
  • @NBSquared2017 you must be elated how those turned out!
    @mrsconn23, prayers for all
@kvruns this is excellent news.  I’m so happy you won the bid!
@banana468, poolside relaxation WILL be in your future

  • @banana468 have a wonderful vacation! It will be magical for your kiddos - our first trip there with DD is still my favorite one there (we went multiple times because my father lived in the area and my stepbrother works for Disney ie free day passes). Safe travels to and from!

  • @kvruns, congrats on your offer being accepted!  FX the inspection goes well.  If it helps to pull the trigger for the LVP now, Lumber Liquidators has their own credit card through Synchrony Bank and they always have special financing offers on it.

Right now, it's 24 months interest-free.  But it needs to be paid off in that timeframe, or they whomp you with all the accrued interest.  Or 48 months at 6.99% interest.

@NBSquared2017, You and your family look amazing!  Those are gorgeous photos.

There's also Floors and Decor (which is on the northside in Castleton) and they have a similar financing offer.  That's where we got our LVP from for our downstairs earlier this year.  They had a great selection, price point, and you can take your stuff with you the same day (since they're a massive warehouse).  We paid cash for our floors, but we considered the financing offer.

Be careful with that.  I have care credit  (also with synchrony) and put an amount on it last month.  I did my calculations for the 18 month interest free promo and decided to charged it.  When I got my first bill the minimum payment was around $30 less than what I calculated in my head. I thought my math was wrong.  Nope, their minimum payment does not match the complete 0% apr promo time frame.  You have to do your own math and if I hadn’t, I would have thought they set the minimum amount to match the promo time frame.  I can see someone not paying attention and when that 18 months come up, someone could be very far behind.  And I wonder if that’s done on purpose?

    OMG, I am so PO'ed, I'm fuming!!!!

I just got an e-mail from Southwest that they are changing my flight to NYC for the trip I am taking in Sept.

Before opening the e-mail, I assumed the times had just changed a smidge.  Not even close.  On multiple levels.

Originally, my departure time was 12:20PM with arrival in NYC at 4:15PM and was non-stop.  About a 3-hour flying time.

Oh, but now?  I don't even LEAVE NOLA, until AFTER I should have already arrived in NYC.  4:05 PM-10:05PM.  It's also no longer non-stop.  Now the flight time is 5 hours long.

My guess is they cancelled the flight I was supposed to take due to "shifts in their flight schedule".  The quoted part is what they said in their e-mail.  I do have 14 days to change the reservation at no cost, but I can't cancel it.  I scoured the choices when I originally made this one and it was, by far, the best.  In fact, I even paid a little extra for this flight as compared to some of the other ones, because I liked the times so much better.

Update:  I spoke to Southwest.  Yes, they cancelled the flight because they no longer do non-stop flights from NOLA.  I'm not sure why that needed to involve pulling the rug out from under people who already have flights booked but, whatever.  So ALL their options are about that long or longer.  But, at least for the arrival/departure times, they do have much better options.  Phew!!!  I didn't chose one yet, but I jotted down a couple to go over with my H and will call Southwest back tonight.

Like I really want to be trying to navigate the subway and then finding our hotel, in the dark and late at night, smh.  Plus carting along a suitcase and travel bags.  We might as well wear a flashing, neon sign that says "Rob Me".

Ugh that completely sucks!! I've been hearing very similar stories too. I have a friend who had their flight canceled 3 times starting the day they were supposed to fly to FL.

The minimum is never split into the actual payments you'd need to make in order to pay off the card during the promo period.  The minimum calculation is based on a percentage of the balance you're carrying.  You do have to do your own math to pay off the balance within the promo period.

This happens to me with my Discount Tire card all the time (Synchrony as well).  We use it to put new tires on cars once every few years and do the 6 month financing.  The minimum is always like $30 a month, but on $800-1000 it's not going to get you there in that timeframe.  Of course they do it so you might not pay attention and end up paying interest after the promo period is over.
  • @short+sassy honestly surprised it's only changed once, it quite possibly change again before September. I would call them an have them find you an earlier flight if possible.
  • Also every time I see LVP, I have to think "Not Lisa Vanderpump, but flooring."  LOL

Yeah this isn’t the first time I used Care Credit, and I remember last time I also split all my payments equally in 12, 18, 24 etc and ignored their min payment slip.  i did it again with this one.

@“short+sassy" that is so annoying! And I remember united doing that to me for my trip to Winnipeg last year before they realized what covid really was and canceled it altogether… but you’d think they’d all (united, delta, southwest) have their shit together by now?

  • Partial success! BK started to poop, M grabbed her and dropped undies. A few turds fell but one MAY have gotten in the potty.
I told M if it did, we'll count it and give her a sticker for her chart {small sticker. Half points} just for more "show off" sake

We were just there last week.  We have resumed most of our pre-Covid traditions and hitting up the Children's Museum was on the list!  My uncle lives in Greenwood and his daughter/my cousin is in Martinsville.  We went for the first time to the Art and Nature Park.  We will definitely save some extra time to enjoy that park next year!  As always, the road trip home included a stop at the Albanese Castle!  I could not believe how nice it was with all the renovations!!

  • @mobkaz, I think of you every time we go by the Albanese Exit. We haven't taken the boys to the Children's Museum yet because a friend had told me earlier this spring not enough hands on stuff was open for little guys. We did go to the zoo when they were here in May and plan on returning when they are here in August. I'm headed back your way next week.

The museum seemed wide open to me.  It was a bit of a win-win because they are limiting capacity, so it was not crowded at all!  The Playscape area with the water way and sandbox were open, but the artist studio within it was still closed.  The dinosaur area was closed but more so as a result of their renovations.  I believe everything else was open.  We spent a good deal of time at the sports complex now that the little guy is 5 and beyond energetic.  They could have spent all day just on that side of the museum.
Depending on your travel day, be forewarned that I believe Lolla begins at the end of next week!
