Manic Monday

How was the weekend?

The weekend was hectic and scary but ended just fine.

We found out Friday afternoon that the Girl Scout event was canceled due to the heat.  It was sad for the kids but the right call given just how HOT it was going to be.  The troop leader invited us over so we went up and ate and swam in her pool.  Chiquita had a great time and then we split to head home to get ready for my cousin's party.  In that same time DH put the bigger new boat in the other marina with FIL.  So now the boats we have are in the water.

I did NOT wear the dress I considered because I had never tried it on and it just wasn't a great fit.  Maybe some day but it wasn't for that time.  We got there late afternoon and I got to see some family and chatted for a few minutes when my mom lost her balance and tumbled backwards onto a concrete paver on my cousin's patio.  She's on a daily aspirin and her head was bleeding so we called 911 and I rode with her to the ER. Because her vital signs remained OK and she showed no signs of a brain injury while we ran hot in the ambulance we were put into the triage queue and waited and waited.  We got there around 6 and it wasn't until after 9 that she was into a room to be seen.   Because it was on the other end of the state from my home my brother ran my dad home and my FBIL stayed with him (dad really shouldn't be left alone at night).  My brother doubled back 45 minutes to the hospital and then hung out with mom until she was examined by the doctor, had a CT scan and it was read and considered clear.  She's home and good but it was scary and I'm glad she's OK.

Yesterday I cantored, checked on my mom via phone and we took the kids out on the boat where we anchored and swam.  It was the therapy we needed.

DH also mentioned that he intends to address our concerns with the first marina with how we've been handled but also intends to be diplomatic to ask how difficult MIL and FIL have been.  I appreciate that he's not completely into this with blinders on.

Photo of Chiquita in the bow of the boat because I love it.

  • Wow that’s pretty scary @banana468 I’m glad she’s (relatively) all right! Chiquita looks beautiful!!
  • Weekend was fine. Still recovery from being sick. Went to camp on Saturday and had a really great time! H’s cousins & brothers family we’re there and there were lots of kids, baby M had a lot of fun and did so good. We drove back Saturday night (it’s only like 1 hour 45 minutes) and I was feeling bummed we didn’t stay but we found out they had terrible storms that night which knocked out trees & power lines and they had to rescue kayakers from the river. So glad we left.

Yesterday was my birthday and H genuinely thought my birthday was today. Like told me on the way home from camp. I’m a little bummed. We did walk to get breakfast and he went and got my favorite cake. I’m trying not to be annoyed that he didn’t do much but still.

Busy day today at work but finally starting to turn a corner (I hope) with the sickness.

@banana468 how scary! Glad she’s alright.  That’s something I could totally see myself doing.  Chiquita has some serious vibes going.

There was a water mainbreak on my street all of Saturday so they shut off the water for that. All day.  Fun stuff.

Sunday I spent a lot of the day cooking.  Crab rangoon from scratch and stir fry but I ruined it with a sugar free sauce that tasted horrible. Bleh.  And then Sunday I had a blind date set up. We  never talked on the phone or exchanged numbers or anything, so we only had our pictures to go by.  Maybe I’ve been lucky in the past but all my “blind” online dates had waited for me outside so they saw me walk up or leave my car.  This guy was inside apparently? So I messaged him right at 7:02 after realizing I wasn’t going to get an “l’m here” message. I asked if we were meeting in or out? He said he was already in.  I went in.  Didn’t see any guy standing alone waiting for someone. The whole place had 7 people so I couldn’t miss anyone, especially someone saying he was 6’6.  He said he went back to his car.  I stood outside so if he was in his car, he could see me waiting.
Then he got all intolerable with me. I told him what I was wearing/what to look out for amd got; “is what a joke?” And then silence for a few minutes.  Then I went back to MY car because two strange guys were trying to talk me up.  Then he said “you’re messing with me”. I asked him if he was at the right place?
Then at 7:22 I left.  I told him I couldnt stand around all night (and feel stupid being stood up) and he’a like “ok good luck to you”
No.  Good luck you, sir.  First of all, wait outside for your date, second of all, don’t give up after 2 minutes and thirdly, don’t accuse your date of messing with you.
After I google imaged the building, I saw that the place had a second door (I thought I saw someone standing there when I pulled out but I didn’t even think it was a door to that pub!).  You would think a second door NO ONE was using (not those 7 people at least) should have tipped him off? So we were both there, just couldn’t see one another because the doors were not adjacent on a flat surface.  My friends told me he handled it horriblely and it was a red flag anyay.

  • @banana468 that is scary! I'm glad your mom is OK.

We had a fun weekend. Went to the Phish show Friday night. Met up with some friends we hadn't seen in a while. Saturday we did something things around the house, floated in the pool and then went back to Phish again. Saturday night was awesome because we ended up with 3rd row tickets through the lottery. I've never sat so close at a concert before.
And yesterday I mostly just recovered and hid in the AC. I'm so tired of this heat.
  • Weekend was so great! My friend and I had a really fun time and now I’m glad to be just sitting in the AC doing my work because it was so hot!
  • @banana468 glad everything with mom ended up ok, how scary!

This weekend was nice.  The boys were fun even though G wasnt really up for doing much.  It was rainy both mornings so we just hung out and played and watched a lot of Blippi (I f'ing hate Blippi).  Took a grocery store trip/driving nap Saturday afternoon and IL's stopped by Sunday afternoon for a bit.

Busy week at work and trying to work out a little every day, otherwise SSDD.
  • @CharmedPam what the hell?  I think you majorly dodged a bullet.
  • Right @Casadena? I was hoping we would meet up eventually and laugh about not finding each other in a crowd of 7, but he was to busy accusing me of not showing up.

@climbingsingle, fun! And this heat. Ugh.  It rained both days so i was hoping for a cool off but nope, even after it rains it’s still hot & humid.

  • I didn't do much of anything this weekend.  Mostly finished cleaning up from the party (I still need to put stuff back in storage), dyed my hair, started to get back on track with some goals, etc.  It was so bloody hot I refused to go outside at all.  My poor AC was working overtime. I even had it up to around 76 and it was still rough. Watched House ot Gucci which was pretty meh, TBH.  I'm surprised at the Oscars hype around it.  Pacino was a TRAVESTY in it, I couldn't believe how terrible he was.  Finished some other TV shows.

Thumper came to visit Saturday night into Sunday (my neighbor's dog), so I had a nice cuddle buddy for some time.  The Grand Prix was just okay, it was kind of a blah race.  My boys scored a double podium! which was nice, but being fair, it was due to LeClerc DNFing and Sainz's race being ruined by Ferrari strategy again.  I think Mercedes dominance of the constructors cup is over, unless some major rehauls happen over the next 11 races.  Which is still possible; unlikely though.  I just loathe Red Bull and want them to lose in all things, all the time.

Talked to my parents.  With covid numbers rising again and 2 confirmed cases in the office, I'm not going over with dad's compromised immune system.  I think he's very depressed and suffering, but unwilling to admit it.  I'll be surprised if he goes for the 2nd round of chemo or the pacemaker.  I'm not ready to accept those things, but I support his choices.

  • Overall, this has just been a bad couple days for me.

We put our rental ad up and, for reasons I don't understand, it's been pretty dead.  For the last three units at this same location, I had about 100 inquiries within the first couple days and a couple dozen people come to the first showing.  We had the first showing this morning and I haven't talked to my H yet.  But only about 15ish people had the info for it.  So I'm guessing only about half of those people came.

Our last unit was advertised about 6 weeks ago.  The only thing I can think of is that school starts in a couple weeks, so people might be putting off moving until that's done.  Maybe rental demand is down, but a change that big in such a short time doesn't seem likely.

On another topic, I am SO aggravated with my bank that has my HELOC.  You can write checks and do debits off of a HELOC.  But my bank doesn't delineate who those debits go to, like a normal bank does.  They might for a typical checking account, but they don't for my HELOC.  It makes it really hard to keep track of what is happening.  I try to be good about always writing everything into my register, but I know I sometimes miss things.

I noticed I had a recurring charge going on for the last few months around the 21st that is $379.65.  Super suspicious, because I can't think of what I have an auto-debit for.  So, since I can't see where that money is going, I called customer service.  They can't tell either.  They got in touch with a manager.  That person couldn't tell either.  So they called a branch manager.  That person couldn't tell either.  So she is calling some back office and call me back.

I was on the phone with them for a total of 38 minutes, argh!  Turns out, it's my auto insurance payment.  I swear I don't remember ever setting that up for an auto-debit.  I usually pay it off every 6 months because it is cheaper that way.

At least it's something legit but, ffs, why did something so simple take an hour!  I was already going to be shopping around for a replacement HELOC next month.  This is just more motivation to get the hell away from this bank.  I hate it for so many reasons.

  • Not sure if it helps @short+sassy but HELOC data is the worst at Banks. We had the hardest time working with it when I was on the consumer forecasting team because everything just shows up as a debit or payment but like you said we don’t see where it’s going. And don’t get me started on line increases- they are SO HARD to track. It’s absurd. The bank legit probably didn’t know where your money was going.
  • Weekend was good.
BK was very spoiled and really no reason other than maybe M & I are kinda awful? LMFAO!

Saturday I met my mum for brunch and then we checked out the thrift store near my place.
I needed work stuff - so I spent $86 lmao! Unfortunately they didn't have change rooms so a couple items might be returned.

    Meanwhile M took BK to a park, IL's then Toys R Us lol she ended up getting a playdoh pack {which I wish I was there to say no honestly .... she has so much playdoh lol}

Then Sunday I said I wanted ice cream. Originally we were going to drive to a different spot but weather was iffy, so we opted somewhere closer.
M wanted to talk to a different company about phone/tv/internet  - we're getting new fiber cables by us from this company, but we can't swap until it's set up.

    {side note: M talked to one of the people installing cables in our area today - end of August likely done}

M wanted to look at computer stuff while we were in the area, so I took BK to the book store.
Guys she's as bad as us!
I let her carry the rolling basket. Had I not edited down, she would have cost me over $120 lol!
She left with a stuffie and 3 books.
    She wanted more books, more stuffies and a lunch kit from Bentgo brand {that's $40 alone - but it had a mermaid print lol}

I got a few lunch boxes, but I think if I'm buying an extra more pricy one, it'll be the OmieLife because it has a little thermos.
  • I got a jury duty notice over the weekend.

I might be able to postpone it, but probably not before tax season ends.

Meanwhile, since inflation is driving up my bills, I have been applying for part-time contract work that can supplement my existing income.

Thanks for the warning!  So there's a good chance it might be like that at my next bank.

I've always kinda liked using it as a checking account because, since it's a LOC, I'm not in danger of bouncing anything.  Like if I forget to write in a check or...set up an auto-debit, lol.  But, after this experience, I'm thinking about using it less for that and setting up a savings account instead to be my "safety cushion" or a larger balance in checking.  So that I can keep better track of all my debits.

The con to that is it will cost me money in interest for however much I keep in a savings account.  Because the HELOC interest I'm charged is currently 6.8%, whereas a savings account will pay 1% or less.

I'll put in a pin in this for now, until I know how my new bank works.

My bank doesn't do line increases for HELOCs.  If you want a higher amount, you have to apply for a new one.  Which I've done.  I got a new loan number and everything.  But it also resets the 10-year clock, so that least there is that.  Huh!  I hadn't even thought of that.  I only have 5 years left on this HELOC.  Another good reason I'll be getting a new one, lol.

  • My small pet peeve.  I informed someone last night that we were having showings today from 10am-noon (we do an "open house" showing", rather than set specific times for each person).  He acknowledged it and thanked me.

He just sent me another FB message at 4:30 asking if he can go to the house now.  It's 4.5 hours later!  Do you really think someone is still there?

But what I actually told him is that I don't have anyone there this afternoon.  But our next showing would be this Wednesday from noon-3pm.

I respect it more when someone realizes they missed it and ask to reschedule, instead of sending me such a clueless comment..

  • @banana468 I'm so glad your mother is on the mend. That is scary. For what ever reason I can never see hidden pictures on the Knot! I'm sure she's adorable. @CharmedPam, yes you dodged a bullet with that guy!

We've been on a small trip. We went to see FIL for a couple of days then on to a Board of Trustees retreat for H. FIL is 98 and lives on his own but shouldn't. It breaks my heart. His mind is really great but his body is just letting him down. H's one sister lives down the street from him and takes care of him - checks on him a couple of times a day, grocery shops, takes him to appointments and church. I asked H about assisted living but he says his dad refuses. I'm the in-law so can't say much.

It has been hot where we are too (Virginia).  We are at a resort which is beautiful but I just don't want to be outside. I did go to the pool yesterday morning. That was nice. Yesterday afternoon the spouses and partners went on a winery tour. I was surprised that Virginia has some decent wines. We are headed home this morning after some meetings for H. I'll work out and pack up the car so we can get on the road ASAP. We have a 8+ hour drive ahead of us.
