Where’s Wednesday?

Re: Where’s Wednesday?

  • @levioosa, as someone else who also has weight problems no matter what I do, it's very frustrating to hear society's constant refrain of, "Calories In/Calories Out (CICO).  And exercise.  That's all you have to do.  Fat people are just lazy."

Because, for one, that's not easy.  Even for people that would work for.  But two and more importantly, our bodies are much more complex than that.

Everyone has known someone who eats massive quantities of food and pays no attention to their diet and calories consumed, yet that person is still super thin.  So I don't know where the ignorance of it's "only CICO and exercise", even comes from.

I'm not saying CICO and exercise aren't factors.  For most people, they are probably major factors.  But they aren't the only factors and, for some people, there are bigger issues going on. That there usually isn't an explanation for.

It's also not just the general population.  It's doctors, too.

One of my recent goals is to make an appointment with a doctor that specializes in weight loss.  Because, here's the mistake that I recently realized that I've been making for years.

I already see an endocrinologist for my T1 diabetes and hypothyroidism.  Have been for the last 28 years.  Metabolism falls under endocrinology.  So, aren't I already seeing the right kind of doctor?  So, I guess that means nothing can be done?  Except when I discuss the difficulties I have always had with losing weight, they blow me off with, "Keep taking your thyroid pill.  Yeah, some people have an easier time losing weight than others (shrug)."

Sorry for my rant on top of yours!  But this subject always touches a nerve.

I've spent a lifetime blaming myself, like society says I should.  Which has stopped me from pushing for better answers.  And now I'm angry that I have suffered for so long, in silence.

Gym Manager (GM): So what are your goals here?

Me: Oh, just working on my strength and stability. My cardiovascular fitness is great so at this point just strength and working on all of those preventative measures so I don’t develop joint issues, heart disease or diabetes in the future, haha.

GM: *looks at me* So…nothing else?

Me: Nope, just working on optimizing my strength and stability.

    GM: So…nothing aesthetic?
My petty a.f self would be like
"Yes. I find strength and stability part of my aesthetic" *scowl*
