Prudie Day

Okay, Thursday has officially become my "omg this week isn't over yet?!" day.  The kids have things after school mon-wed so maybe I'm just beat by today?  I don't know.
How's everyone else?

Re: Prudie Day

  • I actually thought yesterday was Thursday and was disappointed when I remembered it was still Wednesday. M is pretty much the same but thankfully not getting any worse!
  • Ugh - I have the full two days of work and I promised the Girl Scouts that I will make "clouds" for the Care Bear trunk for trunk or treat.  DH and Chiquito are camping this weekend so in between work and meetings I'm using my glue gun and doing laundry - hopefully not at the same time or someone's going to have a closed pant leg.

I can’t wait for a quiet Friday.  On Tuesday I saw an endocrinologist to get down to my high numbers.  All she really did was switch meds and tell me to check my #’s more (I’m horrible at it). Which my general doc could have done.  Since ozempic is still on back order, I’m on something comparable now called Mounjaro.  However, after reading up on it - it’s also very successful with weight loss. Not prescribed yet for weight loss, but it said it soon will be.  I get that lower weights = better blood sugar levels but I’m happy where I am weight wise for once in my life and I want to get down to lower blood sugar levels!

Last night was a martini bar and belly dance outing. I had to fill in for the organizer because her hubby had covid.  It was a LOT of fun and because of October it was spooky/halloween themed! The belly dancers were not professional dancers, just students taking lessons from a local class and doing this for charity.  ALL shapes and sizes and ALL ages (even a great grandmother!).  I looked for lessons near me, but the only stuido within reasonable driving distance was closing.  So maybe amazon prime has some free dance lessons for me?  It’s all about the skirt & glitter bras for me.  Such an elegant dance.  But something I should definitely start off in the privacy of my own home!
    continued recovery for baby M @charlotte989875 !

  • Man, this ear thing is really taking it out of me.  The pain is mostly controlled, but I still can't really hear out of it and it's surprising to me how exhausting just dealing with that is.  I've cancelled 2 outings that I was looking forward to and 2 meetings about projects I care about, b/c the expended energy on trying to hear, having to explain, and saying "huh" and having people repeat themselves...just ugh.  I'll never take my ears for granted again.  It's making me really grumpy too, so I'm expending energy on not snapping at everyone.  Blah.  I've got to get through work this week and then I'm resting as much as I can this weekend.

I don't think I have any plans for this weekend beyond gaming and regular household chores.  I have the final episode of Better Call Saul left and then I plan on finishing Rings of Power.  I can't think of much else to do.
  • @CharmedPam, hmmm, I've never heard of Mounjaro.  I'm getting a new endocrinologist and keep procrastinating about making an appointment.  But something to ask about, if it's good for weight loss.  I've also been a little curious if Type 2 medications would help my BG levels.  I know they aren't "recommended" for Type 1s.  But I feel like I've also become insulin-resistant over the years.

I recently joined a Type 1 subreddit and whoa!  I take 2-3x more insulin than most of those people.  I'm heavier person, so I know that's part of needing to take more insulin and can also effect resistance.  But still.  I'm not sure that explains all of it.

That outing sounds like it was so much fun!  The Caramel Apple and Witches Brew sound awesome.  I have a friend who used to take belly dancing classes.  She loved it.  We did a girl's weekend trip to MS (pre-pandemic) because I had free rooms at Harrahs Biloxi and her teacher was performing at a hookah bar, in the area.

Usually I do my Costco scanning on Thursday nights, but my H and I are going to a local real estate meeting instead.  I used to be a member of this group, but let the membership lapse because...with my Costco scanning...I couldn't go to their meetings anymore.  But it's certainly a great place to network.  They also open the meetings with people being able to stand up and talk about things like what they are looking to buy or if they have a property for sale.  Ding, ding, ding.  Non-members can go also, but it costs $20/person (meh).   I wish they offered a monthly membership, but it's only annual memberships.  We are primarily just going to make the announcement of our properties for sale and then (hope) potential buyers come talk to us.

In my fantasy, another investor comes over to talk to me.  Wants all the properties at full price.  And, for the cherry on top, can close with cash in 2-3 weeks!  Not as impossible as it sounds.  They are all a decent deals for the cash flow.  But very unlikely, lol.  Though I wouldn't be surprised if there are people interested in buying 1-2.

Alas, since I'm not Costco scanning tonight, I will need to make up for it tomorrow when I get off work.

  • Good morning.  My day started with a dentist appt, before coffee even. Ugh.  But all is good.  DefConn has two baby teeth that need to be extracted because the adult teeth are coming in and the baby teeth aren't budging.  They're causing him some discomfort.

Yesterday was a total stressfest.  Last night was a lot as well.  But by the end of the night, things were better.  I talked to my boss (who's on vacation), which helped.

Today is better despite the dentist visit.

    Prudie coming up.

That happened to me when I was a child.  My two new teeth started to grow over the baby teeth, instead of pushing them out.  They had to be extracted also.  Good luck to DefConn!  Not fun and it's uncomfortable for a little while, but not too bad or that painful.

2 of my friends had this with eye teeth.
Both waited awhile until having it dealt with but one had it dealt with when she got braces. Other got it dealt with when she finally had benefits for dental with her husband.

I've had so many teeth out for various reasons.
I have no eye teeth. That's my fun party fact ;)
  • That's really great @Casadena
Aw good luck to defconn @mrsconn23
  • Catching up on yesterday - @short+sassy congrats on making that big decision!  I hop it goes smoothly for you all.  Also, Madison is only a couple hours from Pam and me  ;)

@climbingsingle H and watched "luckiest girl alive" last weekend and really liked it!!  I have a couple lingering questions that are bugging me but maybe the book would answer?  I'll have to read it.

It's funny, for the live of me I can't remember the book! I know I absolutely read it, but I can't even tell how far from the book the movie might have deviated.

When you say eye teeth, is that another phrase for wisdom teeth?  As in, the teeth that come in to the back of your mouth in your late teen/early 20s timeframe.

If so, I had those taken out also when I was 19 or 20.  But that was more a surgery a specialty dentist does.  I was put under and all that.

That is a fun party fact!  You're also lucky.  It's really common to need your wisdom teeth taken out and it is not fun or cheap.

My fun party fact is I don't grow hair on my arms or legs.  I did a little when I was younger.  But it stopped in my mid-20s.

I also have a small void in my eye.  It is an area that didn't develop, in-utero.  But, fortunately, it is far enough to the side that it doesn't affect my vision at all.

I didn't even know about it until I was an adult.  An eye doctor mentioned it to me and it was a funny conversation, because he assumed I could see it.  I had no idea what he was talking about, lol.

He told me it would look like a small dot of nothing, when I looked at something.  He was a little surprised I couldn't see it.  But then I think about the amazing things our brains do, to help us function in the world.  Maybe my brain automatically fills in the gap with what "should" be there, so my perception of what I am looking at is complete.

I saw that!  It would be another perk for me to be only 2 hours away from a big city.  Great target for a long weekend.  We could have a IL WW meet-up!

Every single baby tooth I had except for one had to be professionally extracted. Almost Every. Goddamn. Tooth. And if that wasn’t enough my mouth was too small to accommodate all of my adult teeth and I had four or six adult teeth pulled too. It was terrible but a good calm dentist who is good with kids goes a long way.

I’m just trying to make it through the week. Last night I found out a good family friend passed away and it hit me harder than I expected. Two weeks ago we found out he had stomach cancer and the prognosis wasn’t good. Two days ago he was told there weren’t any options and they were going to arrange hospice. They gave him 3-5 days. He died the very next day. It’s just so sudden and I don’t know if my emotions are from everything that’s been happening, my impending period, or if it’s just that this is the just the most meaningful loss I’ve had from an adult from my childhood. So I was grieving last night. I am sad for my parents who were very close to him and I know they are grieving. Selfishly I don’t want it to impact my dad’s recovery either.

Dad is doing okay. He isn’t eating anything really and I’m worried about that impacting his recovery as he loses what muscle mass he has and continues to decondition. I know he perks up when I visit but I live too far to visit throughout the week and I can only make it out on the weekends. He finally moved his hand a little in front of PT so now they believe him. I had been working on it and had gotten him to make some very small movements (hey, something is better than nothing; we can work with that), but I know they don’t believe family and they gave us the “oh okay, sure you did! Good news!” attitude when we told them I was getting some movement out of the hand during the sessions I do with him.

It’s definitely feeling like a Thursday.

Good news about G! @casadena. I’m sorry about work. I hope a move is comprable and will even provide more money!

I hope you feel better @varunatt

i hope you guys continue to be on the mend too! @charlotte989875

  • @levioosa, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend!  I've heard stomach cancer can be a bad one because there often aren't warning signs until it's pretty advanced.  I hope your dad continues to make progress with his PT.

  • I'm back from my conference in Vegas.  The conference was awesome and, in addition to the workshops, had some fun things.  For one reception, they brought in puppies.  They were from a rescue and were up for adoption.  They also offered complimentary professional headshots during two days.  I went twice (different outfits) and they turned out really well.  Fun!

My hotel experience wasn't great.  I was able to check-in online earlier in the day and tell them what time I'd be arriving - 9 PM.  I get there and use the Kiosk to finalize.  No room ready for me.  They had a temporary check-in computer set up and a worker sent me there.  The woman there said they had no N/S King rooms available and I could get a smoking King room or n/s king.  I took the n/s.  I asked about room service and she said they didn't have it (what??). So I go up to my room and when I went in, the TV was on and a light on in the bathroom.  I called "hello" and no one answered so I went in and checked the closet to see if there were belongings.  None there so I figure it's just something they do to welcome you.  I went to bolt the door and hear a keycard in the lock.  Two guys are standing there with their luggage and their key opens my room.  Apparently, we were assigned the same room.  They were polite and went back downstairs to get another room.  There was room service and it was all over the hotel channel they had left on in the room.  No housekeeping service one day so I had to call down for towels at 10 PM.  It just wasn't what I'd expect for a name brand hotel.

No airline schedule changes so that was great and I arrived home after midnight.  Now I'm trying to catch up at work.

@levioosa - I'm sorry to hear about your friend.  We had an OG knottie who was diagnosed with that and passed shortly after.  I hope your Dad continues to make progress.

    @Casadena - Great news about G!

  • @levioosa, I'm sorry for your loss. That's so fast, and so sad.

@short+sassy Eye teeth are the pointy ones third from center, aka vampire fangs. My mom had hers removed as well, but that way back in the dark ages. I didn't think they did that anymore.

I'm still dragging this week, but glad we're to Thursday. ILs will be getting in tonight; we're taking vacation tomorrow. It looks like we should get great weather this weekend, so we're doing a winery visit and apple orchard. H is in charge of meal planning. I have a feeling this weekend will be catered by pizza hut.
  • I'm sorry for your loss @levioosa.  The suddenness makes it so hard to process, sending peace
  • @levioosa I'm so sorry for your loss. My cousin's husband had a very similar prognosis sadly with his stomach cancer as well.

Canine teeth I guess? The sharp ones at the front top.

  • G's chemo is going to be delayed a week :(  Labs came back great except for elevated liver enzymes (very common at this point in treatment) so we have a week off of any meds to give his body a rest and will hopefully finish up this phase next week!

Oh, okay!  I was way off then.  And thanks to also, @MyNameIsNot.

Now, I'm more curious.  Do you just have fewer teeth then, since you don't have the canines/eye teeth?  Or do you have teeth in those spots, they just aren't the "fangy" type teeth?

  • Ugh, that dementia Prudie letter reminded me of my neighbor (S).  First, I watched her longtime roommate devolve into dementia, until she finally became too violent that she needed to put in a facility.  The neighbor still had her faculties at that time.

But it put her in a depression and she started developing the signs about a year ago.  At one point, she was lucid enough to realize she needed to go to a facility.  Not because she thought she had dementia, but because her physical needs were becoming too much.

She decided on a facility and put her house up for sale, so she could afford to go there.  Her REA was an idiot and had it way, way too high.  But after a few months of nothing, they cut the price a good bit and the sale closed earlier this week.

TBH, I'm glad she appeared mentally acute enough to sign the paperwork.  Because she isn't always.

Our mutual friend (C) and neighbor (she's my age) was over at her house a few months ago having some drinks.  They'd been hanging out for a couple hours.  When suddenly, S starts screaming at C to get out of her house.  S didn't know who she was and thought she was an intruder.

I'm also really hurt that S didn't say good-bye to us.  This is someone we have helped out a lot with chores and errands, over the years.  We've had Thanksgiving dinner with her a number of times and always visit at Christmas, if we are in town.  We considered her a good friend.  I'd like to blame it on the dementia, but I don't think that's all of it because she's lucid a lot of the time also and it's not like the sale or her move happened overnight.  I feel a bit used.  Like now that she doesn't need us for help anymore, she doesn't even think to say good-bye.

And here's another important piece that sours my opinion of her.  She had one dog and three cats.  The cats were more her previous roommate's pets, but still.  They were her pets also that she had for years.

She took her dog with her.  But left those cats in the house with no food, no water, and no one in charge to take care of them.  And not just her, but her two (much younger) friends/helpers that helped her move.  The cats are okay.  But only because my H did a double check after she was totally gone to make sure the dog and cats weren't trapped in the house.  Dog was gone, but the cats were still there.  WTF?!?!  How can anyone be so monstrous as to let three animals die a cruel death of starvation?  Because that's what would have happened to them, if my H hadn't checked.

Anyway, I'm mainly glad she's gone because she wasn't safe living in that house in her condition.  I feel bad for saying this, but I'm also glad she's gone because I didn't like her anymore.  As much as I tell myself the dementia is not her fault, it doesn't change the fact that it exacerbated her worst qualities and made her a mean and erratic person.  Plus, even before the dementia, as her needs increased, she also started expecting more help from C and my H.  It was way too much.

However, I am not looking forward to the months of construction on her former house that I assume will be starting soon.

Essentially what the orthodontist said is I had too many teeth for my mouth and needed to create space to adjust my teeth.
Canines least necessary so they went

My poor brother had the opposite problem.  His one canine fell out, but the adult tooth wouldn't come down.  He was in his twenties when it finally showed up, so he had a gap there for years.  It was adorable, but I don't think a teenage boy/20 something wants to be adorable.
