Thirsty Thursday

One of my very favorite F1 podcasts is run by 2 very knowledgeable, nerdy women who also love doing Thirsty Thursday with the drivers.  And I swear, some of the drivers are definitely in the know and going after it.  B/c Hamilton just dropped some work out pictures that I'm definitely appreciating.  They always gear up more right before race weekend.

I'm glad this week is almost over.  Our utilties company is asking people to keep their homes at 78 when they're home, 85 when you're not home, 82 at night.  Look, I try my hardest to walk the talk I do about energy conservation being hard, but I have to exist too.  So, I'm doing 78 when I'm not at home and trying my best to keep it to 75-76 when I'm home.  But I have night sweats and there is no effin' way I can do 82 at night and get any sleep at all.  So, that is still staying at 72 (I'm lucky with an apartment setup that tends to stay relatively cooler naturally).  I might've gotten a bit sassy on their FB post and asked for a picture of their office thermostat.  I can't imagine offices being able to keep professional in behavior or appearance at 78.  Especially in modern offices that are sealed up.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Finally did my grocery shopping and it's all salads and precooked items b/c this heat is sapping my will to do anything.

  • 100% with you on those temps. I’m 74 at home and 76 when I’m not.  At times, even *I* feel there’s no air circulation and it’s a tad warm! And of course I’m on the comfortable is best side, but if I has to choose I’d rather indoor temps be on the warmer side.  I HATE being cold, no matter the season.  I think what they’re asking is outrageous.

Speaking of, it’s freezing here in my office.  Sometimes I have to put a heater on.  One’s about to come on now! I finally got around to hanging my art… and I’m a little perturbed that I spent all this money on them (way more than what they’re worth) and they didn’t even come with any hanging hardware! The larger one was to heavy for the picture hanger I had, so I used command strips - and thats when I found out my wall isn’t flush. Great.  So a corner sticks out. My OCD will not be happy with that.

Hardest freaking no on those temps.  I mean, I wait until 4-5pm to put the AC on, but if it's on, it's on lowest temp setting.  It hasn't been too hot yet, haven't used it overnight this year and only a handful of times during the day, but, if it's hot enough for it, it's going to cool us off into the 60s.

Had my annual well visit this morning, waiting on some blood work but all seemed good.  Trying to shore up weekend / 4th plans but stbxh obviously hasn't let me know if he's taking the kids this weekend (his weekend).  But we have nice plans for the 3rd and 4th that his indecisiveness doesn't impact, if I have the kids over the weekend we'll enjoy that too.  Pretty ssdd otherwise.
  • 82 degrees!? Who could sleep like that? Not me. Even 78 would feel way too hot.

Thankfully my antibiotics have already kicked in and I'm feeling much better. Mostly SSDD here. Weather is better (thankfully no bad smoke yet here) finally. Just so ready for it to be the weekend.
  • No way at 82 can I sleep comfortably.

We're still hopefully planning our August vacation and a person complained about the hotel management of a Universal property when their room's AC wasn't working recently and some people chimed in that it was inappropriate that management didn't do anything about it.  Sorrynotsorry if the AC isn't working in my hotel room in central florida you're moving me to an available room that has it or to another hotel.  I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars to not sleep.

  • Still poor air here but a little less terrible than yesterday.

New contractor is in and working so we’re making prepress! Work has been busy so I’m really looking forward to a 4 day weekend!
  • I set up my office (again) last night.  I did move my desk's positioning so I'm looking out the window.  I've spent the last year working from the couch on my days at home, so this is weird.  But I really can't work like that full time. It's just too casual for every day.

I'm working on training modules that I need to have done by July 11th.  They're so boring.  Ugh.

The haze seems to be lifting.  Finally.  Other than that SSDD.

Prudie as soon as I get through the training module I'm currently on that's slowly trying to kill me, LOL.

  • 82, I can’t even do 72 at night. I don’t know what it is, but I wake up in the middle of the night burning. H is always like “wtf is wrong with you? Why are you so hot at night? You’re freezing the rest of the time.” I dunno man, but if I did we’d have a cheaper electricity bill in the summer.

    Yay for new contractor! @charlotte989875

Glad to hear you’re feeling better! @climbingsingle

I hope today is going better @Casadena

Marathon work the next two days. I feel like I’m just getting slammed. I spoke up about something and I feel like there was some retaliation with more slots added to my schedule. Oh well. I don’t have to be here long term if I don’t want to be. Just one more year. Otherwise SSDD. Getting ready for our get together this weekend. It’s going to be nearly 100 and I’m so sad summer is here. The long June gloom we had was fantastic and I was rolling my eyes hard at everyone complaining about the cool temps and cloud cover. Guess what, now it’s going to be 100+ through September and you won’t be able to step outside without wanting to die for months. I get that having a pool is an expensive liability and upkeep but it really would be nice to have.

  • I was so hot around 2am that I woke up and turned the air down to 67 from 70.  It was an icebox when we woke up, but I got the sleep I needed.  I turned it back up this morning.  82 could never happen in my house, or even 78.
  • I’m also so frustrated by the Supreme Court decision. I mean I knew it was coming but still it’s so hard seeing exactly how much this court has undone in such little time.
  • My H and I tend to keep our temps higher than average compared to most people.  Like 76-77.  Not because we are trying to conserve energy and save money, but because that's what we are comfortable at.  But 82 is way too high if I'm home, sleeping or not.

But our house has window units, no central HVAC.  So, 90% of the time we are only running one window unit anyway.  We would just totally shut it off when we leave because it can cool one room fairly quickly.  But then the fuzzy babies might get too hot, so we leave it in the low 80s.

We also have high ceilings (13') through most of the house, so that helps a lot.  Years ago, we lived in a house that had 16' ceilings.  It was unbelievable how cool the house stayed even if the a/c was off all day.  15-20 degrees lower than the outside temperature, just naturally.  Unfortunately, those high ceilings worked against us in the winter.  But that was still a great trade for this part of the country.

I had my fasting blood draw today for my doctor's appointment next week.  Nothing concerning, just one of my usual 2x/year endocrinologist appointments.  But I used the opportunity while I was out and about on a weekday to go to the post office and my bank, before going into the office.

Our new tenants for our own duplex paid their first month's rent yesterday, so we gave them the keys a little early and they started moving in last night.

  • I will say, a dry temp of 82 is definitely different than 82 and muggy - so it's likely I could tolerate coming home to an 82 degree home but I still need it much colder for daily activities, absolutely while cooking and sleeping.
  • I mean obviously it’s no one’s preference but aren’t they making that ask to try and avoid power outages? I’d much rather take a cold shower before bed and run a fan than have rolling power outages.

That's a good point also.  But in my experience if that is an eminent worry they have, they will say that.  Our local energy company makes requests all the time about conserving energy during the summer months and gives tips, though they've never dictated specific temperatures.  But we've never had rolling blackouts and I don't think they've ever threatened that.

However, when I lived in CA, there were occasionally alerts about conserving energy or they'd have to implement rolling blackouts.  Or sometimes alerts that rolling blackouts would be happening with the days/times.

Where I live, "cold" showers would be a strong word in the summertime, lol.  The water usually comes out of the tap a bit cooler than room temperature.  That's about it.  But it's still great and helps a lot.

  • No, no rolling blackouts or brownouts here.  The media is just stating "to conserve energy".
  • We keep the house at 76-78 most of the time in the summer because it's comfortable for us. But the office thing! I went into the office today (a massive high rise) and had to wear a jacket to be able to work because it's so ice cold. There's no way it's over 68 in there, probably more like 65. It's been that way since they turned on the AC in April. If energy conservation is really the goal, why aren't they pushing these offices to raise their temps to warm enough that people aren't sneaking in space heaters to be able to work? That seems like the bigger waste of energy to me!

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox. SSDD, I'm going to happy hour tonight and am so ready to be done for the day. My job is being annoying.

Every office building everywhere, lol.  And I doubt it's any different at an energy company's office building.

The only reason I haven’t been running my space heater is because I’ve been using my new office treadmill and I’ve been hot. I’m bitter Betty though. My office gets horrible air return from the AC unit. In winter the two rooms on either side of me are disgusting and hot and my office is freezing. In summer those rooms are freezing and mine is warm.

  • No way I could do 80 anything at night! Our house has a lot of trees around it so if it isn't humid I can handle 80 during the day but humidity is the real problem.

SSDD here. H is in Virginia getting stuff from his Dad's house. The siblings will hopefully have it on the market soon. While he is gone I'm pulling stuff together for our trip to SC next Friday.
