Costco catering

This may feel tacky to some but please save judgement. I think Costco is a great option for those with a very limited budget but a lot of people to feed. Their party platters like the sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, and meat and cheese are affordable. They feed up to 24 people per tray and cost around $40 each. They also have sheet cake thats $25 for 48 servings.

Re: Costco catering

  • The key is the "UP TO" - they don't...  Lots of people have gotten burned for Thanksgiving with the "Feeds up to 12" from the big box because unless the food sucks, people actually eat it.  Think Mac'n'Cheese box "Serves a Family of Four!"...  There's also the logistical aspects, a backyard wedding with 20 guests tops - great - go for it!  But for anything larger you're asking someone to instead of enjoy the day be your servants - I mean servers - instead of enjoying the event.  That includes everything from heating the food, checking temperatures to make sure the food is safe, putting it out, refilling trays, taking the food back off, bussing tables, cutting and serving the cake (btw - that sheet cake is a 1.5x1.5x1.5" slice and unless cut on a grid isn't going to be 48!) it's a MESS!!!  You're also going to have the expenses of plates, silver, napkins, serving utensils, carving/serving knives, etc., garbage bags, garbage service, etc. all of which a caterer will do for you without having to even think about when you all should be relaxing and enjoying the day.
