How far in advance of the wedding do you send Save the Dates, if your sending them?

How far in advance of the wedding do you do engagement pictures?

we are having our wedding on a very busy weekend in newport -  so we sent save the dates this past Nov for our September wedding. Almost our entire guest list is also out of town. we talked with our photographer and plan to do our engagement session in June. she will then create a guestbook from those images for us. she wanted to do the e-pics in May - but FI's work schedule is too busy. hope this helps!

I wanted to use our engagement pictures for our STD, so we had our engagement session in August, sent the STD at the end of August for a May 5th wedding.  But we have some OOT guests and our wedding is on a Friday, so we wanted to make sure people knew ahead of time for time off and travel.

So with you two it seems like 10-11 months give or take was when you sent them out and had pictures done.  Our wedding is on a Saturday, the OOT guests we do have could drive.  I was thinking maybe December/January for our September wedding next year BUT I would prefer to do our pictures in the summer/fall.

Your timing is perfect. The weather in September is beautiful! I would avoid mailing them close to the holidays since save the dates may get lost in the holiday card shuffle!

Ours will be sent out in a week or so for our Sept. 13th wedding.  So that is about 7 months... But, it is a very small wedding and almost all of our out of town guests already know the date.
