Interesting story about Mt. Hope Farm

This story ran in the Bristol Phoenix this week. It's a beautiful place and I know ladies have had lovely weddings there, but we were turned off by some of the rules there and stories we had heard. They ran a deficit of $60,000 last year; that would explain why we were hounded for a decision after we looked at the barn!

The story is long and complex, but interesting. http://www.eastbayri.com/detail/134511.html

Mt. Hope Farm was my first choice venue but I was so turned off by the rules and snotty reception that I decided it wasn't worth it especially after all the reviews I read about them on weddingwire and on the Knot. I think if they clean house, the place will get more weddings and other events booked.

Wow, how disappointing! It would be such a shame if they can't get Mt Hope under control and lose it to private development. It is such a lovely space for weddings. Like said above if they clean house they could turn it back into a really successful event space.

We were married there on the water in 08... If I had known about the long list of strict rules, I dont think we would have booked.

Its a beautiful, beautiful place, but the Trustees really need to get their act together. In our one year of wedding planning, they went through 3 "head" people.. They are too old fashioned and strict. If a couple is plopping down 6500 dollars to just rent only the lawn for an evening (nothing else included), its not like they're going to hold a hillbilly hodown...

Just thinking about all their rules still gives me anxiety, haha!

I don't know if this is necessarily true anymore. They got new management in the Spring (2010) so they've gotten a lot more lax with their rules for receptions now. Management has changed for the inns as well. Not sure if the rates are any different now.

Anyone else know about their current rates?
