Hi everyone FI and I are planning a long weekend to Newport in August.  Does anyone have any hotel recommendations or restaurants that they can suggest?

TIA!

Hey LADY! there are some great hotels in Newport the Hyatt and Marriott are two hotels that are pretty well situated in the middle of everything.

Thanks I just called both the Hyatt is sold out and the Marriot was $440 a night a little too pricey for us.  Do you have any other suggestions?

    Hello!
If those are a bit pricey than I would try some of the following places

The Ocean Cliff Hotel (rooms there are likely around $250)
    The Newport Inn and Suites
    The Newport Harbor Hotel

Even more affordable are the quality Inn and Comfort inn.
These are decently nice (esp the quality inn) and you can't beat the location for the price. They are across from the Beach, near the clifffwalk and a short drive to town.  They are def. a more "budget friendly" place to stay.

I also have REALLY good luck on priceline. I would but in Newport, 4 stars. I bet you can get something around $200 on there a night.

There are tons of BnBs and Inns as well:
    The Inn On Bellevue
    The Spring St. Inn
    The Almondy Inn

Also- sometimes on craigslist and places I see adds for people looking to dump their timeshares at the Wyndhm hotel. That's right in the center of town. I'm not sure how modern or updated it is, but you might be able to score a good deal!

There are tons of restaurants as well. There are the typical tourist places like hte Casino, the Red Parrott and the Barking Crab or the Brick Alley Pub which will all give you a decent meal.. but head down the streets around thames and off the beaten path---there are some really great, lesser known places.

Also, there is a great Bar on the dock at 41 north thats worth having a drink at!

You might want to consider staying in the town next to Newport, which is called Middletown. They have cheaper hotel chains like Hampton Inn, Residence Inn, and the Holiday Inn Express. All of them are on main roads that lead straight back into downtown Newport.  Besides, many of the hotels right downtown may be booked up at this point and pretty much all of them have multiple night required stays.

I speak from experience. I was trying to find a hotel to stay in the night of my wedding August 20th and every hotel in Newport was booked.

On a more positive note :-) Newport is an awesome place to visit in the summertime! I've lived there all my life and used to take it for granted but now I realize how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place.

Let me know if you have any other questions! If not, hope you enjoy your visit to Newport.

I would also check out the Mill St. Inn if you are going more on the B&B side.  It is in a good location in Newport and should be cheaper than the Marriott.  Hotels in Middletown are also a good choice, just remember that you will need to drive to get to Newport- it won't be within walking distance.
