Non Traditional Ceremony Locations in Pittsburgh, PA - DO THEY EXIST?

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I are having our wedding reception at J Vernos in the Southside (downtown Pittsburgh basically).  Neither of us are very religious and come from very different religious backgrounds.  We have decided amongst ourselves that we don't want to join a church just to get married there or just pick a church that doesn't mean anything to us or our relationship. We are lookinig for a non-traditional ceremony location within a half hour of downtown... although we prefer downtown since that is where we met, work, and fell in love.

Problem is - we can't find anything!  No where wants you to have your ceremony there without your reception there.  Our only option we have come across is the Convention Center.  Does anyone know of any other places we can look?  We would really like it to not be outside only. Do non traditional wedding places really not exist? I mean it's 2013! HELP!!!

Thanks!

  • Sorry, I live in NYC and I haven't a clue.

Try asking on the Pittsburgh board

  • I don't know anything about Pittsburgh, but around here, there's all sorts of publicly-owned buildings (old courthouses, museums, community centers) that rent by the hour and would be great for a ceremony-only. They're also cheaper venues, generally.

Since there won't be any food served, I'd also think really hard if you know anyone who works downtown. I think there are some stunning office tower lobbies I could get for a weekend ceremony.
  • Hey, I do recommend you ask on the PGH board.  However, I am also planning a non-traditional PGH wedding.  Have you looked into having the ceremony in a city park?  Parts of South Park, North Park, and Highland Park are frequently used for weddings.  I'm assuming there is no way you can have the ceremony at J Verno Studios?  I'm getting married at the New Hazlett Theater on the Northside, but it would seem silly to rent out another location just for the ceremony.

  • Why can't you have your ceremony at your reception venue?
