Ocean City Yacht Club

Hi ladies, happy Monday!

Any info/comments you'd like to share? I see they won't rent during July & August... I'm mostly interested in prices and how the food is if anyone has any idea... tight budget bride here!  :-P

Thanks much!

They are great for the $$$

They don't rent in the summer because they really consider themselves a yacht club first which is so annoying! I visited with them first thinking i would love them and then realized I would end up having to do a lot of the work myself and I was planning my wedding out of state.

I can say this though... the food is PHNOMENAL. The head chef owns the restaurant Cousins and he is wonderful. I am not a fan of the actual wedding planner, she isn't the nicest but she seems very reliable.

I would say if you're local and have the time to put in the extra work yourself it will be a great place for the $$, the view is unmatched and like I said above, the food is amazing.

Thanks so much! Def looks like a possibility... I live in central NJ so I don't get down there much but FI's g-rents have a house in OC so at least I can check it out when I'm down there. Hoping it wouldn't be too hard to coordinate considering the distance... Thanks again! :)

This was one of my two choices I had narrowed down my reception too and while I didn't choose it (it's affordable, but I opted to save a little more with my choice), my cousin got married there, so I know a bit to comment.

As PP said, food is fantastic!  The place has a great outdoor deck and you can have a "Just Married" boat pick you up at the dock there.  It's also just a nice place guests can go to get fresh air and gorgeous views.  The room itself is very nautical (nautical flags, ship wheel, etc --- but you could deviate or drape maybe or go with the beachy feel. There's a great staircase there too for photos and/or couple entrance.

    Good luck!

We're having our May 2012 wedding there and I have to say they aren't the most flexible people to work with. I originally picked the  place bc my future inlaws have a house in OC and the place looks great with it being on the water. Unfortunately they have a few rules (that are not in their contract btw!) that you can't get around..You have only two options for your chairs: 1. Use their navy, vinyl banquet chairs or 2. Use their white chair covers. Sadly, neither of which go with our vintage beach theme so I'm at a loss here. Apparently they don't have room to store their own chairs (so no outside chairs can come in) and renting outside chair covers is simply not allowed. Honestly, I think it's kind of a ploy to get you to spend money as the event coordinator constantly mentioned the chair covers as soon as we signed. This may not be a big deal to most people but as an event coordinator in the biz, it just seems kind of unprofessional to me. If this is something you're concerned about let me know and I'll send you pics.

Aside from the chairs, the planning has gone fine so far. Chris is reasonably fast in correspondance but I do agree with BoldHart though, she and and Bill aren't the warmest people as they aren't very willing to accommodate simple requests (I've read this on other boards as well). Again, not necessarily a big deal but worth noting.

I will say this though - I'm also a budget bride and I've found that their prices are the most reasonable in SJ. With a venue fee of less than $2000 (depending on your rental time) and their most expensive menu costing $80 pp, you can't really beat that. Hope this helps!

I am having my wedding in September at the OCYC. The venue is very affordable compared to other locations nearby. It's is also very beautiful being located right on the water. The decor inside is very nautical, just something to keep in mind for other prospective brides. Like the pp stated, the chairs are pretty awful and I'm unsure how you get around not using their chairs, or the chair covers, which I'm personally  not a fan of. I was told those were the only options as well. I've heard rave reviews about the food, but when we went for our tasting, the food left a lot to be desired, and I'm not a real "food snob" so it has me a little nervous. I'm hoping they were just having an "off" night since it is the start of their busy season. Also, just something to note that I didnt realize at first. You must pick two full entree's for the tasting, you do not get to sample small portions of each entree offered. Not a big deal to some, but worth mentioning.
