Happy Tuesday!

Hey Ladies! I'm going to work for a few hours and then driving down to Florida so I probably won't be around much this week! I am so excited to go down and spend time with my sister and nieces (mostly my nieces haha). It will be a very nice break. I can't wait to not set an alarm on my phone haha.

What is everyone's plan for the rest of the week?

Good morning ladies! Will ggirl as you know, I was supposed to go to FL but then FI found out he has duty. So now I have no idea what we will be doing for Thanksgiving. Pretty bummed. I think today is my last day of work for the week, depending if my employer took a whole day off tomorrow. If she didn't, then I just have the morning w/ the kiddos. So in any case, I guess I will start baking tomorrow! I can't wait to make my mom's pecan pie. It's THE best. I'm also going to try making these pumpkin spice cookies, super pumped!

Good morning! I am sleeping like crap here becuase of jet lag and excitement, so I'm a lot earlier than I would have liked but that's fine.

We put in an offer on a house yesterday!! We are just waiting to hear back if the guy accepted it, but our realtor got an email from his realtor last night saying he was expecting his client to sign and return it today, so we're super excited! Then we just gotta keep our fingers crossed that the home inspection goes well.

Thanks G!! I am really really hoping everything works out. With the area that the house is in I can't believe it was still on the market. But the pictures online don't at all do it justice. Also when we googled mapped it last night and did the street view we realized that it used to have a shitton of trees in the front and back of it (like couldn't even see the house from the street), and I think that probably deterred a lot of people.

Ahhh I just want to know already!

Hike once we know that we are under contract (and maybe after the inspection) I'll definitely be posting some pics on FB!

Thanks Binx! We ended up picking one in Hickory in a fantastic neighborhood. We upped our price limit a bit just to see what else was out there and it was totally worth it!

Ggirl - Enjoy your trip, have safe travels!

Beach - Thats awesome! Hickory is a pretty area! Fingers crossed you hear great news today!

I am working today and going for a nice long ride this afternoon. FI has duty tonight, so its just me and puppy dog once I'm home. But - it gives me time to get the house cleaned up more. I'm hoping to bake an apple pie either tonight or tomorrow and I've got packing to do. We leave Wednesday night for KY, fingers crossed Atlanta doesnt provide bad traffic. And then we'll be in KY until Sunday.

Other than that - I'm hoping for a nice week. OH!! If I may threadjack just super quickly - If anyone has a wonderful sangaria recipe (red perferably) I would be super grateful!! I need something for thanksgiving day. :)

Beach, I'm so glad to hear you found something you love! Fingers crossed for a super easy inspection and a quick closing.

Binx, sorry you're bummed about Thanksgiving! You should host your own at home - it was really special the first time we did that, and this year it's just the two of us. I'm also a bit disappointed I won't see my family this Thanksgiving or Christmas, but it happens. We can commisserate Laughing

Nothing major on tap for today. More work. I had a great day yesterday on the project I'm working on, so hoping for another great day today. I need it, as I'm rather behind from being sick, but if I get good results today it shouldn't matter. Fingers crossed!

Beach that's awesome! Hope everything goes through! When are you officially moving here? Kara and I are having a gtg soon. We will have to do more when you get here! Calindi- I suggested hosting Thanksgiving for a few of the single guys stuck here too...he didn't really say much other than saying one of the guys in his shop invited us. So not really sure what's going on now! Sorry you won't be home for either holiday! I'm thankful we can be home for Christmas...especially because we have A LOT of wedding stuff to do.

Congrats Beach on the house. The offer was the worst time for me since I was just on pins and needles every time the phone rang. It is so worth it.

GG- travel safe and have a super fun time.

Binx and Cal- I am sorry you both are bummed and not seeing family for Thanksgiving. Booo!!!

My mom came in to town on Sunday and we are spending some good time together. I have to write a paper that is due on Sunday. The professor is not giving us any extra time and as a matter of fact she posted an annoucement that said "I am looking forward to recieving everyone's paper on Sunday." Evil professor.

Beach: Omg, how exciting! My fingers are crossed for you! Can't wait to see the pics!

Binx: I just replied on FB about our GTG. I can't wait! Whend does your FI have duty? H has duty on Saturday and just found out yesterday that they have Friday off so at least we get to have a Thanksgiving although for not as long as we would like.

Today I'm supposed to go to the DMV and get a VA license/name change, I don't need a VA one but I'm only doing it because my NV license still has my old last name. I'm also supposed to go to the mall at some point today but it's rainy and gloomy outside and I hate to go out when weather is like this. H has duty today too so I won't see him until tomorrow afternoon after work, then we will leave for Jersey right away. So tomorrow, I need to pick up the ham I reserved at HoneyBaked Ham, pack for H and I then we leave! I can't wait. My sister and her family just moved to a new house so it'll be a new place we haven't seen yet and I am always excited to see my niece! Also, my sister and I are super pumped for Black Friday shoppin, but H and I will have to get back down here sometime Friday though. I wish his duty day didn't fall on that Saturday! Ugh

Good Morning everyone!

I'm in a rut and feel pretty depressed about life in general. It is complicated and I really don't want to share. Great, now I feel like that annoying FB person that posts the status of "I don't want to talk about it" that no one likes. Haha. jk. I just don't think anyone wants to hear me bitch and moan about stupid stuff.

I don't know why I am feeling this way.. especially when FI is flying in tonight! =D Maybe a weekend with him will remind me why I am doing this.

I hate Wal-mart more so in during the tourist season. They come in in their campers and still have to buy 3 buggies full of crap. I mean it is really needed to buy a sweat shirt in SC during July when the heat index is 125 in the shade. UGH!! Ok sorry I just needed to breathe. Wal-mart takes me to "that place" HA

Posted by BinxRose
But I AM home for both holidays - I'm just not going to get to go visit my family! I've been trying to make a big distinction that where I live is my home; where my parents live is their home, and my hometown and where I grew up, but it is no longer my 'home'. It makes it easier, I guess, and it also reminds me and FI that we're building our own home and family. It also helps when his family is being truly miserable and he knows that his home is with me, not with them.

Sami, yes, I do make awesome sangria, if I do say so myself! It's from a recipe that I got from my favorite little bar on the Guadilquivir river in Sevilla (yes, I'm totally name dropping, and sighing a little bit at the awesome memories). I make it from memory and without measuring, so it's a little different each time I post it, but the jist is the same - add ingredients to taste always! I'm approximating with the portions here.

1 bottle of red wine - full-fruit wine, like a cabernet savignon or a burgundy are prefect.
1 cup of brandy
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of triple sec or peach liquor (I'm a big fan of the peach, but the triple sec is more traditional)
Apples, strawberries, grapes, and/or pineapple (a friend added pineapple recently - it isn't traditional, but I really liked it and it added a great sweet-tart flavor and sucked up the booze great, so I recommend it!)
1 orange
2 limes
1 lemon
1 liter of 7-Up

Slice the lemons, limes & oranges into circles and set at the bottom of a pitcher. Dice the fruit (apples, strawberries, and/or pineapple - don't cut the grapes if you use those) and throw it in the pitcher, too. Add the sugar, brandy & triple sec/peach liquor. Stir and cover - leave to set for at least 4 hours (though I've been known to skip the wait, it's much better the longer you let it set). When ready to serve, add the red wine and stir. I prefer to add 7-Up to each individual glass so it maintains carbination, but you can add to taste to the pitcher if you prefer (maybe half the bottle?)

Oh goodness, reminds me of when I used to work in a grocery store back in highschool. The week of Thanksgiving was hell....pure hell. Getting yelled at by customers because we don't have any more cranberries was always the highlight of the week. Having the kids hang off the carts almost pulling them over on themselves, kids running around..I had to go run after a kid that was breaking stuff.

Don't even get my started about the couponers... I hated them. You are making the store buy your groceries when you do that..when the coupon doubles it comes from the store's pocket not the manufactuer's. They get mad when the coupon is expired or specifies that they have to buy the specific size. Hated those people with a passion of 1000 suns.

Being a customer in a grocery store is annoying, but working there during that time is HELL. PURE HELL.

Amanda, you're insulting a few people on this board, I think. No one makes the store offer a double coupon, so they do it so people go in and buy more stuff. Extreme couponers who have rooms full of junk that they'll never use creep me out, but if someone is buying things they'll actually use or give to someone who will, then I'm actually rather impressed with their thriftiness.

I did Thanksgiving grocery shopping last night and it all turned out really well - I always buy a fresh turkey, but this year I bought a frozen one just so I could save some money. I'm going to brine it, so hopefully it's still tasty and delicious. We spent under $100 on Thanksgiving, so that's good! Though that's not counting the apple pie that I already made and is in the freezer, but we'll just pretend that didn't cost anything. All that is left is flowers!

Thankgiving dinner shopping is done for me as well. Since it is just going to be my mom, Roxie, Gunner and myself we are just doing a turkey brest. Since Roxie and Gunner don't get turkey they are no help at eating that giant turkey. They will however get a little special treat.

WOWWWWWW... okay. Thanks for pissing me off this morning.
I am a 'couponer' by no means am I extreme. But you bet your ass I will use a coupon for every single item I buy. EVERY item. And you know what - I know every store's coupon policy better than the employee's themselves. Explain to me why I shouldn't use a coupon when the manufacturer is PAYING the store to accept them. AND its each stores choice if they are going to double coupons or not. There are plenty, plenty, of people who use coupons properly and by regulation. So just because there are a few odd balls you dealt with doesn't mean everyone is like that. I save my FI and I over $300 a MONTH with coupons.. and that goes straight into our savings. AND I don't even use doublers! Beacuse no one here doubles coupons.

You know.. now I see why people say you sound stuck up. Because that was a very stuck up comment to make and a very sterotypical/generalization comment at that.

Haha ok right?? So I clip coupons for some stuff. Calm down Amanda. Dont work in a flipping grocery store if you can't handle the job description. How hard is it to scan the freaking coupon?? I mean REALLY. Not to mention, are you personally invested in the store to be so irate that they double the coupon?? You know why they do that? So the consumer will SHOP THERE and make their pissy checkout staff scan all those little bastards in, along with all the other junk they're probably buying without a coupon.

Eeesh, now I'm all riled up.

I'm sorry.

But I don't try to confuse the cashier by giving them 100 coupons at once and half of them are out of date or for the wrong stuff and demand that they double... You would be surpised how many people are out there that try to distract the cashier while they ring up the coupons. It is those people that really irk me. I'm sorry if it insults anyone, but it is true.
In Response to Re: Happy Tuesday! : I'm sorry.

I get that. People who lie and cheat are in the wrong for sure. I have a feeling most people will agree with that, but when you said you hope couponers end up in hell or something, that's a bit too far. I also have a habit of diving in before I think about who my words might hurt, but it's not a bad thing to step back and re-read and make sure you're saying what you really mean rather than throwing around tough words like "hate" and "hell".

Someone who is thrifty and uses coupons for things they will use (not like the diapers for a childless family, like AMH mentioned) is admirable, I think. The coupons are out there to be used, and it's in the store and the manufacturer's best interest that they be used as they're supposed to be used. But yelling at a cashier is never justified (okay, rarely, but certainly not over an expired coupon). And cheating the system is wrong and equivalent to stealing, in my opinion.
